All you do is going to the parks and look for the pin section and start there. And on some recepts ( at least they used to) have some instructions for pin trading.

I only put the pins I get from eBay, traders, on my lanyard. I would name all my pins, but I've got 300. All my trader-pins are really ugly, so I'd be embarassed to name them. But, all those ugly really-commen ugly pins will turn into super-rare beautiful cast lanyard pins :) I have a rainbow figment lanyard, which they dont sell anymore.

Hmm, I have very specific rules for what I collect in pins, otherwise it would get out of hand.
Rules:
1. Must be a Mickey ears/icon pin. The three circles deal.
2. No characters must be present on pin. I do not want the ears to be a background.
3. Must be the full icon not a "hat" ears shape, unless it is a rally cool cast member pin.
4. Must not be a dangle, again unless really cool, a cast member pin, or part of a theme (such as christmas, halloween).
5. All halloween pins are game (unless I don't like their look)
6. Lights, glow-in-the-dark, sparkles, moving parts are a plus

My favorite/rerest pin is my Disneyland Paris Glow-in-the-dark Pumpkin Icon Pin.
My most wanted is the Disney Cruise Halloween Pumpkin Head pin (LE 50?) and the POTC golden mickey icon (get when purchase framed set of 6 POTC golden mickey character pins).

If you get into the "hot seat" you get a pin for each level of questions you answer. I actually got to be there and won a hat and some pins. If you need any more info about that just let me know and I could probably explain it better. But it is really exciting to be sitting up there! :D

Wait what is a lanyard?

I wanted to get into collecting pins this time when I went, but on my last day when I started looking for a lanyard starter set, there was only "Pirates" "America" and some sort of Chibi style characters, and a Happiest Celebration one.

So, since I don't have too long to my birthday, I've decided ahead of time that I'd like to get a starter set, and I've already chosen...insofar as, if I can get it from Disneypins.com then I'll be happy.

I'm hoping to get a Mickey Mouse Through The Years Lanyard, which has 8 pins:

The VMK pin was given out for about 1 week at the end of last year. Anyone with an un-used tour card got the pin but you had to have asked for it. The cast members were not giving them out if you didn't know about it. Lucky for me I got one and wear it proudly. Everyone comes up to me and asks where I got this and what does VMK stand for?

My lanyard has on one side snow white pins, the other side has various Cast Member pins, and Cast Lanyard Pins.

I have a book of pins, it weighs a ton! Too many pins....

well, I have somewhere around 80 pins, I haven't gotten new ones in a while, since I've gotten pickier. Alot of my pins though aren't even from Disney. I have some from Universal, Williamsburg, the New Orleans Sea Aquarium, Sea World, The Orange Bowl, Spain, and many more places.

I like to do Dinsey "themed" lanyards with my kids. My daughter and I have a Fantastyland one, complete with a Mr. Toad's Wild Ride and a SkyWay pin. My son and I have one of all the major attractions, or "E" ticket rides, including things like Alien Encounter and Countdown to Extinction (now Dinosaur).

I have character lanyards my favorite one is stitch. I have around 70+ stitch pins.

How many Limited Editions do you guys have? Normally for me I buy almost all of the ones I see. Yay vacation spending money! xD

We just went to WDW for the first time in about 20 years, so we didn't know about the pin craze. It didn't take us long to catch on. I think we spent all our mad money on pins and most of our time looking for lanyards. We had so much fun. It wasn't just the pins, it was getting to know and talk with the people. They were so nice!
Also, having the VMK quests to do, made exploring so fun! Even my husband got in to it and had me serching for extra quests and cards for him.

I have 1 pin that I bought during my trip to WDW in 2005. It has mickey on it and he standing in front of the castle and it says Magic Kingdom on it too. Not sure of the official name of the pin, but I like it because Magc Kingdom is my favorite WDW park.

I have a purple tinkerbell lanyard with a Tink charm and card on it.

I have a bunch of pins on it but some that I remember are:
-My favorite pin with Stitch on it and says 2006 with a MK castle

Same here. I stock up on the Disney pins that are cheaper at the Disney Store, and then trade them off for pins.

Same with me, all of my others (Mostly Tink/Nightmare/Halloween) are somewhere in my closet..

I don't really want to collect pins, but some are just too cute to pass up! I'm really getting into Princess pins and stuff like that. Trading with Cast Members is so fun! They don't really care what pins they get because it's all about guest experience. :) Today, I got the Alice in Wonderland purchase pin (yes, I just can't resist the VMK pins ;)), and traded for a Mrs. Potts and Chip, Bambi and Thumper, and Snow White pins. :)

I didn't know so many people did pin collecting! I want to, maybe I'll start my collection next time I go to WDW :) My favorite one that I see in the stores are those POTC Limited Edition ones ^^

I wouldn't feel bad about it. Unless it's on their own private lanyard, the pins the CMs wear on their trading lanyard are not their own property, but are doled out to them for the purpose of trading with guests. At least that is my understanding of the way it works. Someone correct me if I'm wrong.
