View Full Version : "Teen Buzz"
Zebraa 07-15-2006, 02:05 AM In the age-old battle between teenagers and adults, teens may be gaining ground...at least when it comes to cell phones. In what sounds like every teacher's and parent's nightmare, a new ring tone has been created that many adults over 40 are simply unable to hear.
The ring tone is a spin-off of technology that was originally meant to repel teenagers. A Welsh security company developed the tone to help shopkeepers disperse young people loitering in front of their stores while leaving adults unaffected. The company called their product the "Mosquito." (Think dog whistle, with a twist.) The ring, named Teen Buzz, is a high-pitched sound, based on the fact that most adults lose the ability to hear high-pitched sounds. It has spread like wildfire over the Internet.
Can YOU hear it? Click here! (http://audio.cbsnews.com/2006/06/12/audio1701350.mp3)
^^ Turn your volume on.
PS. Try asking your parents ;)

JasonDude 07-15-2006, 02:11 AM I can hear it, but it's just an annoyance. It doesn't "kill" my ears per say.
Schmoofy 07-15-2006, 02:12 AM I can hear it, but it's just an annoyance. It doesn't "kill" my ears per say.
Yes, but see if someone past their 40's can hear it. I can hear it, my mother can't.
Oathkeeper 07-15-2006, 02:13 AM I can see how that would be useful, but I think I'd rather throw my cell phone in a pool than listen to that every time my phone rang...
Plus, all my teachers are in their twenties.. I don't think it'd be that useful to me anyways, once any teacher found out that was actually a ring tone..
Zebraa 07-15-2006, 02:16 AM I agree with OathKeeper on that one. I'd rather burn my cell phone than listen to that 28398137821 times a day >_<
DinoVan 07-15-2006, 02:17 AM at first i kept hearing it ring and now i have MCR stuck in my head but anyways, i broguht my brothers in and the smallest one said "what is wrong with your room??"

Schmoofy 07-15-2006, 02:41 AM My TV make that noise @_@ if you turn off the cable and leave the TV on it makes that noise and my mom and dad can not hear it @_@
I'm guessing that's what they're basing it off of. It's a lower pitch than the TV, as in adults have heard a TV way longer than kids have, and are used to the noise.
Adventurebry 07-15-2006, 02:41 AM Wow, my sister, who is only a teen, said that she can't she it, but I can. Odd..

It made my eye hurt too..
Zebraa 07-15-2006, 09:06 PM Whoa.. you guys are right. It made my left eye hurt too. Well, not my eye, but my sinus.
Unlucky 07-16-2006, 06:18 AM The ringtone really shouldn't have been made. These kids might use it to text during class and they can cheat on tests or make fun of people/teachers. It just was a bad idea to make. But, other kids will hear it and they might tell the teacher.
But, it's annoying. It gave me a headache just for listening to it.
