I am planning to hold a Fireworks Magic Pin event tonight. Anyone who is trying to get the magic pin is very welcome to join me. It would also be great if some of you who already have the pin could help us out by beating us. :) Here is the plan:

I wish I could help but I only just crack the 240000 point mark so I don't get high enough to leave room for someone to get second and that many points.

I could use the pin too because I am never going to win one on my own. I'm topping out at about 185,000 on a good game...that doesn't get a bug. But if I don't ever get one, I won't be too upset...just a little.

Trying my hardest even with everyone's help of 'wait for it to dip then click' and a bunch of awesome's i figure the only way to get it is have a constant barage of flawless, which im not good enough for, trying for the last 4 days straigh i still barley manage a 201,000 score, so as previsously stated, anyone willing to help a guy out with a trade let me know.

I got my pin at about 9:10PDT. For all those who have given up hope, my previous high score before today was under 230,000. I finally put it together enough to get over 240,000. I've had enough fireworks for a while now.

Congratulations, you three! I'm jealous but very happy for you that it worked out. Sounds like a lot of impressive scoring. Sorry that I had to miss out on the fun. I would be very interested in rescheduling this some time, although tomorrow won't work for me. Maybe I'll have some time to practice up during the day on Sunday, and we can go for it Sunday night or sometime next week.

Sorry I could not make it. Although, after practicing yesterday, I am consistently making 225,000 - 233,000 now. So I have improved and can get first on most games I play now (which helps on credits). But I am still not at the 240,000 mark. I seem to be hitting more Flawless and I keep missing various fireworks on different levels. If I could ever hit all of them (I know the patterns now) then I may just hit 240,000.

One lingering question I have is do you have to score >240k and come in 2nd, or score >240k and just not win?I was hoping we would find that out for sure last night. I think you just need to not win, but I'm not entirely sure.

Figued Pink out today. I am still fine tuning and re-adjusting my burst patterns to compensate. yellow I have known, but often... I find it better to hit good and get all the yellow rather then try to score higher and miss them.

Can anyone please confirm or deny this? I was thinking about setting up another Fireworks event for Wednesday, but if you no longer have to come in second then this becomes a solo effort and there's really no point in organizing another event.

Hey! I didn't know you are Goldeneye in the game! (I guess I should read ppl's avatars and sigs more carefully) :) You will get better. 2 days ago my top score was 223 and now I have the pin. You will be able to do it.

I'd like to organize a new fireworks magic pin event for Tuesday, 6/21 from 8 PM - 10 PM PDT (west coast time). If you're interested, please come find me in one of the fireworks lobbies. I'll be playing each game, but I will continue to use the same lobby all night and pause for a little bit between games to keep things organized.

FYI, I'll probably shoot for the North lobby. If that isn't available, I'll move clockwise through the various compass headings until finding a room on the list.

Here are some brief instructions on how I'd like my event to work (feel free to start your own event if you have a better idea! ;)):

* Every game I play, I will try to score as high as possible. Right now I'm averaging between 245,000 and 250,000 per game when I'm doing my best and not just trying to "limp" across the 240k threshold. EDIT: I will do my best every game, but even I'm not completely immune to the occasional abysmal round...please bear with me if/when that happens!

* If you can consistently break 240,000 points and are just looking to stock up on magic pins, I'd be happy to beat you for several games in a row so you can get more magic pins. All I ask is that for every three or four pins you win, you give one to me so I'm not at a disadvantage for running the event and winning (remember, you can't get a pin if you win). At a minimum, if you play a few games and are able to benefit from me scoring as high as possible, I'd appreciate it if you could give me a magic pin when you are done.

* If you are still trying to earn your first or second fireworks pin but can't consistently break 240,000 points, you have no responsibilities except to show up and play. :) If, at some point, you feel like you've graduated to the above category and want to give me a pin, fine. :)

* If you aren't that close to 240,000 yet but you want to keep trying, I don't see a reason why you shouldn't play with us other than you might get bumped before the final few rounds and not get as much practice. Feel free to join us though.

That's all I can think of for now...I'll edit if anything else comes up!

Lisawdw, I know you've been working hard at this, and it must be frustrating to be so close but not get it yet. Thank you for volunteering to help in the lobby with the event tonight. However, given that there are some people who can't even break 200,000 given their computer limitations, I had originally pictured someone with a much lower high score than yours helping out. You are so close to getting it that you kind of fit into the category of my third bullet point. But, I haven't had anyone else volunteer yet, so if I don't hear from anyone else I'll look for you tonight. Thanks again!

Mr. Genie - I really appreciated the tips you gave yesterday regarding the pink (pretzel) and yellow (cluster) fireworks. Waiting a little longer on those helped to get me out of the 220s.

I am at about 192,000 but that is only the last 2 times I played.

Thanks for understanding...you have really put in a lot of time, and I sure hope you get the pin soon! Have you tried turning off the Fireworks music (click on the Clothing icon, and then on the Sound Preferences tab uncheck music)? Sometimes this helps me concentrate on the rocket sounds, although I do miss the music. Also, make sure you get good at hitting the pink (magenta) and yellow clusters more slowly than the rest...ideally, you should be able to get "Awesome" or "Flawless" on all of the fireworks unless there is a tricky combo and there's really no way to hit them all at the last second (better to get "Good" in those situations than nothing at all). Lastly, I find that it helps to move the VMK window to my eye level (up) instead of the center of the screen so I can concentrate better. I've also heard a recommendation to play full screen (http://www.vmkforums.com/forums/showthread.php?t=321), but I have never tried that and I don't know if it still works. Seems to me the tradeoff would be you can see better, but you have to move the mouse more.

Good luck! I hope you can join us tonight (believe me, it's frustrating when you finally get to the point where you can break 240,000 every once in a while, but when you do nobody beats you! That's one of the things I want to help people avoid tonight).

If you press F11 your window will become full screen but the Game stays the same size. It is just filled with black border.

This helps me concentrate and it prevents clicking outside of the screen 9for whatever reason that would happen).

I play at work (during lunch) with no sound and I score better. I hit 238,500 today. I'm so close I can feel the Magic. lol

wdwspider..the f11 tip is good. I will have to try that later. It worked great on this website

wdwspider & MrGenie....actually the music can be a help, sometimes. It kind of leads you to when you should click some fireworks. If you noticed the fireworks are queued to the music. But it works best for the last couple of them on the first few levels.

Well, that is what I noticed and I got a few more awesomes & flawless. And it helped me get to just over 200,000...that's about 10,000 more than earlier today. But I am still a LONG way off. :)

i was there and i played but i always lost at level two and rarely level three! any way when u guys finished the last game i got disconnected (right when i was gonna ask u for extra pins!) and couldnt get back on! did this happen to anybody else? also do u have extra pins? :D if u do can u save one for me? ;)

Whew, that was a crazy night! Just got back from the Fireworks Magic Pin Event #2. Despite the fact that my session crashed during the first round and I had another horrible scoring round, I think it was a big success. If you didn't get a pin, I'm sorry...hope you got some good practice in! I realize that one downside to so many of us trying to score >240,000 points means that it's easier to get bumped after the 3rd or 4th round...sorry about that, but I don't know another way to set it up.

In the 1.75 hours we played, we won a total of 13 magic pins. Here's the breakdown:

MisterToad: Four magic pins (gave one to me since I was trying to score highest and therefore couldn't win any pins on my own...thanks!)

Sessho: Two magic pins

Wynsome: Two magic pins (promised me the next one...thanks!)

DBFan: One magic pin

NeverAsk: One magic pin

Normy: One magic pin

wnderlndktty: One magic pin

MrGenie: One magic pin (I accidentally came in second one round, so I won a pin in addition to the one MisterToad gave me. However, I gave it to wdwr for attempting to organize folks in the lobby).

Based on these results, I'm anxious to organize another event. I'll tell you the times when I figure out a good schedule for me. Basically, look for me in the evening after 5 PM PDT; if I'm not in the Comedy Club or setting up my new room game, I'll probably be anxious to play Fireworks!

To be honest, I was more concerned with finding a challenging game than obtaining the magic pin (which isn't to say I don't like that I recieved one). Great players elevate the quality of the game, and that's what makes playing online so much fun for me.

One thing everyone, can you give a rough idea on scores on each level? For example on Level I, I consistently get 38K points. Maybe this will help give a guideline so I don't waste my time going to the end with not enough points to even make it :) For example, by Level III I should have x number of points roughly...
Great idea! I find it helpful to have my target scores sitting next to me when I play so I can see how I am doing.

Here's what I am currently shooting for (sometimes I've over or under these by a few thousand, but it's a good general guideline...note that these give you a score approximately 5,000-10,000 better than 240,000):

I have some random check points-

End of Level 1 round 3 I must get 39000 - 41000

End of Level 4 round 1 I must get 148000 - 151000

If I hit those marks I know I am right on track.

If so, is there any way a pathetic fireworks player like myself (who can score max 185k) can contribute in such a way as to get a gratitude (?pity) pin from one of you fireworks stars? I was just noticing the same thing. I did not realize you could win more than one pin. Wow, not only do I need to break 240,000 but I need to do it several times for more pins. lol

My mouse at home is slightly worse than at work. That is why I have not shown for the meets. I can score much higher here.

Man I am bummed! :( I practiced last night and finally broke 200,000! I got my gold fireworks pin and room. Then I was consistantly getting in the 208,000 range. I thought "I'll try a round or two with Mr. Genie, maybe I can get lucky". The first round I only got 79,000 and lost in round 2 with Sessho. By that point my hand was killing me so I quit. Although, I did go on to pirates and finally got my invisibility pin! :) Congrats to all that got pins last night. I will keep practicing and maybe I can get one the next time.

Unfortunately, I somehow missed connecting with the larger group last night, even though I was playing consistently between 7:30 and 9:00 PM, PST. I saw several VMK forum posters, but never caught up with the whole group.

I finally got to the point where I was consistently above 240K, but I never came in 2nd, and couldn't win the pin!! I got a ton of credits, but I really wanted the pin!

Hopefully, I'll catch many of you in the fireworks game later this week!

Heh...but you're still the one who earned four pins last night (and would have had five or six if I didn't crash the first game and mess up royally that other game ;)). I think you're a more consistent high-scorer than me still. Thanks again for giving a pin to me and staying up extra late!

Sorry we missed you...you never know which lobby the game is going to dump you in, and I was hopping around like a jackrabbit too (we kept maxing out lobbies last night :)). Hope you can make it to the next event; I'll post a date/time when I know my schedule better and try to figure out a better way to stay organized. In an effort to maximize the "efficiency" of subsequent events (number of pins awarded per hour!), we should definitely make sure the people who can consistently break 240k stay together.
