I don't follow soccer at all but I'm watching the cup and I hope either Brazil, Germany, or the US wins. ( I'm from the US)

Those are the scores for today, not so good for most of the people in these forums, as USA was humillated by the Czech's. I wish USA better luck for next match against Italy, which will be very tough though, since the Italian's are really good playing soccer, and the USA can't draw or lose, otherwise they are out of the World Cup, and beating the Italians, I repeat, it's not an easy task.

Glad to see Ghana win. Gives the US hope. Even though they shoulda won today. The refs blew the game completely. The guy was way too card happy and then stopped calling anything from about 50th min to the 75th.

I find it pathetic that US would have lost AGAIN if Italy didn't score on themselves -.-

Yeah, I watched the USA/Italy game today. The Red Cards on the US team were unnecessary. Sure, the yellow cards were, but not the red cards.

Anways, if Italy didn't score on themselves, the USA probably still could have, because there was a guy behind the Italian who scored on his own team. So if the Italian wasn't there, it would have gone straight to the American who could have knocked it in.

It doesn't matter though, this game didn't count for either Italy or USA. All that it could show is that the USA might not be as weak as others have thought. Oh well, I am not US Soccer fan. I just like watching the games.

It's not that different to the one presented during Korea/Japan 2002, tournament in which they had a good qualification. Maybe tougher rivals made the USA unable to qualify?

Did any of you watch the Australia vs Italy game? Australia lost because of a mistake by the referee! They are altering the results of the World Cup! There were three seconds left and Australia had a "penalty" and Italy scored a goal. What a rip off :P

They are not altering the results, in any way. It is a mistake of the referee for some, not for others, and if the referee isn't suspended for the mistake, it's because it was not such thing. The Australian defender made a mistake by throwing himself to the italian's feet, if he hadn't done that, there wouldn't have been confusion, and the match would have been extended by 30 minutes. Anyways, Australia wasn't going to last long, they weren't ready to battle tougher teams.

Also, Ukraine won in penalties by 3-0

Well, that was just my opinion :P I think it was an unfair penalty. It's not like I don't like Italy though, I actually think their team is better than Australia's, but I still think it was unjust.

Brazil will win tomorrow, obviously. I doubt Ghana can oppose much resistence in that match. Probably Ghana will handle to keep the score tied on 0 until 30 or 40 minutes of the game. From that point onwards, Brazil will score and bye bye Ghana.

Argentina lost to Germany on penalty kicks. To be honest, I'm really upset about the referee's decisions. Most of the fouls made to Argentina were not penalised, while everything (even if it was not a foul) done to Germans was penalised. Very similar to what happened in the match of Italy vs Australia, but well, I guess money is sometimes better than being a professional, but anyways, what the referee did, done it is, and we should respect him for that, I'd die to see him getting a suspension from the Fifa or anything similar to that.

and like you said on my post......there's always next time....How can you prove they don't? Sometimes refs are motivated to favor a team or another, following the amount of money by the sponsors in each team. Usually, the team with the most sponsoring is likely to be favored by the ref, as there is more money to win in exchange, and a little profit can be left to the referee, or so is what a reporter said, here, before Italy's match, and later on, he said the same thing before Argentina's match, coincidence? I'm starting to doubt it, but anyways, what it's been done, done it is, I'll guess I'll be cheering for Brazil, if I still have energies to cheer for any team.

look....the teams don't get to choose the refs....the president of the world cup and all the other people that work with him pick the refs...and yes...it's been done before...a LONG time ago...it's not going to happen again...

We haven't made the progress that we were hoping for. I really regret the fact that we haven't achieved the goals we set ourselves. Am I going to stay on as Argentina manager? No, I think it's time for me to go. It's the end of an era, and I definitely won't be staying on.

We didn't expect to have the problems that we did. We had to substitute two players, and that cost us dear. Germany had the advantage of being more adaptable than we were. We were pretty much on top throughout the match, and my players gave their all. I always felt that we were better than Germany, but that's not always enough to get the win. All that I can say is that Argentina played good, attractive football and won the fans over.
This team has given the people back home a lot of joy and grounds for optimism. The players were worthy of the footballing tradition that we have in Argentina, and our country will always remember how well they performed at this tournament. Sometimes, though, history isn't fair. It's just a shame that Argentina are out of this World Cup.

We could feel that the fans were behind us all the way through the tournament, and I can assure them that Argentina will carry on playing great football.

Luis Aragones will continue as Spain coach until UEFA EURO 2008.
"The (Spanish Football) Federation were pleased with my work and this motivated me to extend my contract," Aragones told a news conference on Friday.

The 67-year-old had hinted he would step down after his team lost 3-1 to France in the second round of the FIFA World Cup™ on Tuesday.

Before the competition he said he would quit if Spain did not reach the semi-finals.

"What I said before the tournament I would say again in the future but it is the federation who have the final word," said Aragones.

"I told them I was going to leave but they have convinced me they appreciate what I have done and want me to continue."

The defeat by France was Aragones's first in 26 matches since taking over from Inaki Saez after Spain's first-round exit at UEFA EURO 2004.

"The fans should know I am continuing because I want to, and because I want to win a major event. I want to get my revenge in EURO 2008," Aragones said.

Well, I guess the thread can be closed, as Italy has been already crowned as champions after defeating France and there are no longer anymore scores to update, neither World Cup information or matches to debate.
