View Full Version : I must be the only one with this problem
Alexander 06-17-2005, 02:18 AM Because I can't complain to anyone that will listen, I decided to do it here!
The Fireworks game just got wrose for me! They added sound, and with that addition, the game has slowed to an unplayable frame rate. The Mouse refuses to respond, the keyboard controls don't work, and worst of all the animation of the icons just gets slower and slower as I am lucky enough to move up in levels!
This game has been given me trouble of varible degrees since I signed up on VMK. The most troubling ones that involve the gameplay I've reported, much like this, but I'm staring to believe this game needs to be completely overhauled!
This game is not working the way it should for people that don't have the top of the line computers. It never has for me and it probably never will.
AND THE KICKER IS I WAS PLAYING FOR FUN AND NOT FOR THE STUPID MAGIC PIN!
shiregirl 06-17-2005, 02:26 AM Err... when was the sound "added"? I have always had the fireworks music...
Miss MeowsALot 06-17-2005, 02:45 AM It has slowed down for me bit but i can still play it. But can't make it past level 3. I HATE HOW IT KICKS YOU OUT OF THE GAME!!
Alexander 06-17-2005, 02:46 AM Err... when was the sound "added"? I have always had the fireworks music...
Music was always there, and as far as I think, is an important part of the game since the music is in sync with the fireworks.
They added explosion and launch sounds to the fireworks today.
KrazyChik 06-17-2005, 02:47 AM I love the fireworks game...And I hope a lot of ppl dont complain about it enough so they take it away...It is a very fun game and I like to play it :)
Alexander 06-17-2005, 02:49 AM I love the fireworks game...And I hope a lot of ppl dont complain about it enough so they take it away...It is a very fun game and I like to play it :)
They won't take it away, but they do need to change it so that it actually WORKS for people on computers that are not top of the line.
Rolling Stone 06-17-2005, 02:49 AM Yes I have had sound as well.......However, I did notice "enhanced" sound after I clicked on the star today. Also I noticed a pickup in game play, fireworks seemed faster to me? Didn't help me in any case, I did notice more that the BOOM is timed to the music more.
BTW is there a TRS on your computer? Just kidding. Hang in there, things change when a game is in Beta. :)
shiregirl 06-17-2005, 02:49 AM They added explosion and launch sounds to the fireworks today.
Arg matey. Got it. You're right.
Alexander 06-17-2005, 03:11 AM Just finished playing a round without the sound on. Man, it's harder because You have nothing to sync your clicks with.
Unfortunately, the game still runs just as slow as before the explosion sounds came in and I did worst than I can remember doing before in this game.
So, yes, the music is important, but the onslaught of sounds is slowing my computer's processing down a lot. Even with it off, it is still slow.
I hate reporting bugs about this game. I feel like I'm the only one doing it too.
FlyThenFall 06-17-2005, 05:07 AM I agree Alexander. This game needs a lot of slimming down. I can only play it on my dad's gaming computer, anywhere else that doesn't have amazing capabilities you can't do anything with it. By the way, I don't play with the sound, so it's possible. :)
Saragirl 06-17-2005, 05:14 AM I don't use any sound at all throughout the whole game just because it bugs the other people in my house. :(
The Music Game is just not the same without sound. LOL
dizneydesi 06-17-2005, 07:34 AM i ahve a lot of the same problems too, alexander. maybe i should report them, as many people with problems may not be reporting the "bugs". :)
-rcv- 06-17-2005, 08:54 AM Fireworks gets my vote for the most Lag-O-Riffic of the mini-games.
It would take a lot of imagination to say that it was "playable" on my game machine.

Treasure Hunter 06-17-2005, 06:36 PM I am one of those people with as you call the top of the line computers nothing lags in vmk for me
I useded to have a old computer a year ago and trust me I know how enoying it is to not be able to do alot of things on the internet
Just find things you can do till you get a newer one
P.s. lap tops go way faster then normal pc ;)
Alexander 06-17-2005, 07:29 PM VMK lag may also be caused by what's running in the background.
I'm on a 4 year old sys, definitely not top of the line even when I got it. I run VMK fine, but it took a few.
The "No's" of running on my machine:
No phpBoards.
No streaming audio/video.
No WinAmp (oddly enough, Windows Media Player works fine).
No auto-update pages or programs.
Basically nothing that eats any sizeable percentage of the operating memory. I don't know if the other programs are the hogs, or if it's VMK, or both, or something else - but it's a thought.
I know that. And I turn off everything but VMK, and the stupid fireworks game still lags. I bet it is still unplayable right now.
I haven't been on VMK with the exception of my morning NPC credit grab. I know that if I spend any time playing any game, I'll end up going to the Fireworks game for fun only to get angry because of how unplayable it is on my machine.
And to those that say just get a new machine or save up for a new machine, your arguing with someone that can't go to a Disney park but once every 5 years, who can't buy a new pair of shoes but once every 8 years, and who cannot buy a new computer unless the current machine breaks down and can't even turn on. So saving up for a new machine or anything of that nature is simply out of the question. On top of which, some of us are kind of short on cash? Or has that not occured to some people.
MrGenie 06-17-2005, 08:00 PM Does anyone else get a little bit misty-eyed sometimes when you hear the Fireworks music (haven't played lately, but I think I'm specifically referring to the music during the third stage of each level)? You know how sometimes you feel when you hear "Pomp and Circumstance" at a graduation and the music swells, or "Here Comes the Bride" or something similar [insert favorite modern classical soundtrack theme, or the "Firebird Suite" from the end of Fantasia 2000 if you're drawing a blank]? Well, I think the Fireworks music makes me feel similarly sometimes when I am playing. The first song in each round is so peppy and exhilarating. Then, the middle song builds the intensity. Finally, the third song brings it all home for me. Okay, so basically this is just me being silly and weird (and a little sleepy too, I should add), but I BET there is someone else out there who secretly <3s the Fireworks music but is too shy to say anything. Well, now that I've confessed, are you brave enough to come forward? ;)
Hi Alexander, Are you playing on a Mac or a PC?
Alexander 06-17-2005, 10:50 PM I'm lucky if I can keep $20 and I doubt that's enough to double my RAM.
In any event, I'm on a PC, running WinXP Home Ed, with a 2 Ghz Celeron and 256 MB of DDR RAM.
Haven't played it today, but I bet it is still as slow and impossible to play as yesterday.
Alexander 06-18-2005, 12:39 AM Shop around. If you can find a good store or expo, you can usually pick up a 256 stick for around $20.
There are no good computer stores where I live. It's mostly the over-charging commercial chains like CompUSA and Best Buy that assume that if you are buying a computer you are rich. It doesn't help that all the locations for the most part are were all the old and new money families live.
JenniBarra 06-18-2005, 01:41 AM Alexander, you are not alone in your frustration! I have been suspecting that my computer is a bit to slow to play the fireworks game very well. I wanted to test it out on a different machine here at my house, only DH is running Linux on that machine and I couldn't figure out if there's a shockwave plug-in available or not. (That or my other experiment would be to try to play at a time when maybe there's not so many people in VMK. Maybe less competition would help improve my performance?? ;) )
WDWTigger72 06-18-2005, 05:36 AM Being a computer guy here it would really be tough for me to say anything regarding my computer:
3.2GHz Xeon Processor
2GM Memory
Windows XP Professional
Broadband Connection
I can tell you that my computer's processor actually still takes some consumption playing this game (25% to 50%) depending on what I am doing...I really feel bad for people who have slower computers like my family member (333MHz Processor, 384MB Memory)...There computer definitely freezes or I should say the images skip when playing fireworks game. Makes it really really really hard. Pretty sure this would be some kind of client / server technology but seems like a pretty large load on the clients. All I can say is one word "Beta"...I am sure the disney folks are still working out some kinks and hopefully most people will be able to play these games without any delays. I noticed someone said they do not have good computer stores around there area, only the really expensive stores. My suggestion would be buying a lower end model not the high end...Processors, Memory, Etc are outdated so fast doesn't make much sense buying very high end unless you do some programming, processing, imaging, major game playing, etc. My suggestion would be try Dell, HewLett Packard or Tiger Direct online...You can get some good prices and purchase a lower end machine for pretty cheap money. I have a Dell...
Alexander 06-18-2005, 05:43 AM If I can't afford an extra RAM stick, what makes you think I can afford a Dell? Even a cheap one?
In any event, I think they got the message finally. I filed a bug report earlier in the day about the fireworks game not responding, and they said they are aware of the glitch and are looking into it. As much as I don't like that responce, it's better than the "Thank you, I will make a note of that and report it" reply I used to get.
