Tonight I mixed up the Comedy Club format and tried something different in the theater..."Late Night with MrGenie". For those of you who were able to make it (and figure out the confusing seating instructions), it was great to have you! You were a wonderful audience. For those of you who missed it, I hope you enjoy the screenshots below and that you can make it next time.

For the few of you I had to boot because you were standing on the stairs instead of coming through the lobby teleporter, I am quite sorry. We determined before the show that the official way of entering would be through the lobby teleporter (as my room description said), and though it might seem arbitrary, there were a lot of people waiting to get in through the lobby teleporter and it wouldn't have been fair for me to leave them there. I'll try to work out a less confusing system next time. It was nothing personal...if I had my way, everyone could get in as long as they are polite.

There were three portions to this evening's show (if you don't count the seating fiasco):

First, I did an opening monologue; most of the jokes were too long to fit on a single screen, but here are a few short ones or parts of longer ones that still make sense:

Next, I had a special celebrity guest on the show...Baby! What fun. Here are a few excerpts from our interview:

Finally, we had a special musical performance by the "Main Street Boys" and "In-Sink" that quickly morphed into an all-out rave party:

This show would have not been possible without the help of several of you, and I am so thankful. Tonight was a special night for me that I'll remember for a long time.

For those of you who spent your free time this evening just hanging out and watching the show, thanks! It was our pleasure entertaining you.

I want to offer a special thanks to Baby for being such a great guest, and the very first guest on Late Night with MrGenie (now he has two VMK firsts! :)).

Next up, big props for MisterToad and dlfreak for humoring me with a boy band "dress rehearsal" last night, and showing up again tonight to do it all over again. Great singing, boys!

Lastly, extra special thanks to shiregirl for all of the offstage assistance: building the lobby, helping with crowd control, and taking a ton of screenshots of the show.

I don't know when the next show will be, but hopefully this can be a recurring feature once a week or so (takes me a while to pull all of this off...I've been planning since Sunday! :)). In the mean time, we'll go back to the Comedy Club format, assuming I get my theater put back together...the rave got a little crazy there at the end. Note that I will be offline Thursday through Saturday of this week though for some family activities and a little vacation from VMK (haven't had or wanted one yet, but I think it's going to be good for me ;)).

See you around!

I don't usually resort to "bumping" myself (though I am a bit clumsier than normal when operating on limited sleep), but I posted this thread so late last night I'm afraid it has gotten lost in all the excitement surrounding the new updates this morning (quite understandable!). So...Bump!

That's so funny! Wish I had been there, but the game was giving me grief last night. Love the boy band!

It amazes me what people can do. I got a room and thought, gee ... I guess I'll buy stuff for it. What else can you do with a room. And then there are folks like you that create games, restaurants and now talk shows and comedy clubs! I feel very untalented, unimaginative and outclassed!

Well, it's going to be hard to top BabyThePirate, but my *dream* interview would be to go 1-on-1 with Yavn for 15 minutes (who wouldn't like that? :)). Sadly, I haven't been able to make contact with him recently; I'm sure he has been keeping busy at WDW and tweaking VMK to be ready for the full release which is less than two weeks away. It would also be fun to have a chat with any of the VMK_*** mods (Bingo, Mocha, KittyCat, others?) to see what makes them tick, but I'm not sure they can stick around in a room that long while on duty. After that, it's pretty wide open, really...I'd be interested in getting to know something new about each of you (well, as much as you can learn given the VMK dictionary limitations!). I'm not really taking volunteers right now, but I'll probably start choosing some people from the forum sooner or later so be sure to check your Private Messages! :)

That has got to be the silliest thing I have seen in my entire life.

Subsequently, I think it's sheer brilliance!

Three thumbs up (I haven't been the same since that hand surgery . . .)

This. Is fabulous.

I had my jaw hanging for the entirety of reading the post.

What a fabulous idea! :)

It never ceases to amaze me what people come up with on this great great game.

I'd say props to you, but being that I'm over 18, that might sound a little silly.

I'm sorry to sound ignorant, but where was your lobby? I probably didn't look hard enough for it, but I would have really loved to have figured out how to get into your room. I was scratching my head real hard, wondering where everyone was teleporting from!

Seems to me that the solution to that is fairly simple.
You should have a "lock" on your room setup that lets you keep it out of the list of Guest Rooms. The same lock could keep out your Friends also, or a second lock could do that.

A third lock could control the teleporters, or you could simply remove them if you don't want entry that way.

I had unexpected visitors drop in on me today. I had just bought a space room, and had barely dropped a teleporter in it before people started popping in. There was a total of about a half-dozen people who came through. They must have figured I was pretty lame at setting up rooms, seeing it with nothing but a teleporter.

That made me think it would be nice to be able to lock rooms until you were ready for guests.

I think that's a great idea. Granted, most of the time it's an honor to have your room listed on the "Popular Rooms" list, but when you're just arranging your room it can be frustrating for both the owner and people stopping by expecting to be entertained (I have tried changing the name of my room from "MrGenie's Comedy Club" to "closed", but that didn't seem to ward off anyone. :)).

There have been several questions about the mysterious lobby from the other night, so let me try to explain...before I go on, here's a screenshot of the lobby:

http://img148.echo.cx/img148/6346/emptylobby7py.jpg

I'll be the first to admit that the lobby leading to the "Late Night with MrGenie" theater was not very clearly labeled for our first show (I asked Grape, the room owner, to label it "Nothing to See Here" for a little joke). The lobby was really envisioned as kind of a back door access point to make sure the people in the show were able to get in before the main theater got full, along with a few special friends who have been long-time supporters of the Comedy Club that I wanted to personally invite. Again, I am sorry for the confusion this created. For any future shows, I'll post the date/time/directions for how to get into the show. This will probably result in way more demand than the supply of seats, but it's the most fair way I can think of to give everyone a shot at getting in.

For regular Comedy Club shows, I do not envision a need to use the lobby since I am happy to entertain (or be entertained by) anyone who pops in the theater. However, given the amount of work it takes to pull off the "Late Night" shows and the number of inside jokes, I think the humor would be somewhat lost on brand new people or people who don't visit the fan site frequently. For that reason, I will probably continue to use some back door method of filling the "Late Night" theater and not seating people who enter the theater directly. So, as I mentioned above, if you are interested in attending future "Late Night" shows, please check the forum for instructions.

Thanks again for all your support!

Sadly my VMK username is still Guest90210orsomethinglikethat, so Im pretty just a blip in the crowd in the game, but I just wanted to add that I thoroughly enjoyed the BoyBand-o-rama that night.

Im still impressed that there are three males who know the lyrics to those songs. *LOL*

Can't wait to catch the next show!

Glad you made it in, and thanks for the kind post! I guess I must not have been stomping around the room with my Big Ol' Boot quite as much as I originally feared. Either that, or maybe you just snuck in and stood behind a tree the whole time. ;)

Regarding the band, I'm not sure any of us really *know* the lyrics to all of those songs, but the fact that we were willing to look them up and type them out at 100+ WPM for over an hour is arguably even scarier. :)

So what's your actual VMK ID, "TygerRose?".

MrGenie,

So sorry I missed your Late Night show. I popped into one of your Comedy nights when we were having the Pirates-Challenged night, just to show my support. And then went back to get more game wins.

I just LOVE the lobby, it looks so good.

And just a note to you. I think I saw your room on the Favourites list and I saw the 'closed' message and that did stop me from entering. I guess I have just been trained well. :)

I'll watch for future posting and get in line for another night of wonderul entertainment. (of either format)

I also wanted to add my own kudos to MrGenie message! I continue to be impressed by the creativity you use in your room and try to stop by whenever I see that it is open. As for "Late Night" specifically, I enjoyed hearing from Baby as the hat and eye patch piqued my curiosity. :)

I'm really sorry I missed this show. I had been up much of the night before, doing actual work, and I slept through what looks like a really great time. I'm rolling on the floor at some of the screen shots.

How cool to score a first guest like Baby! Someday, when it's your final show before switching networks, I'm sure Baby wil be back on. He'll be recollecting his days as the first, but hopefully not the last, VMK icon.

Awesome effort! I'm already scheming to score a seat at the next show. I bet the tickets will go faster than a BSB's concert!

Nah, Im not that sneaky. Well I am, but I behaved that night by coming in and sitting down (I even made it on the screen caps of the night's festivities, I felt so special :p). I know how aggrevating it is to have so many standing in the doorways so I try to avoid doing that.

Regarding the band, I'm not sure any of us really *know* the lyrics to all of those songs, but the fact that we were willing to look them up and type them out at 100+ WPM for over an hour is arguably even scarier. :)
Hey Justin and crew couldn't of done it any better. And I've heard them forget lines performing live. Just not as funny though as the coordinated/in sync avatars. Just how DID you do that?

So what's your actual VMK ID, "TygerRose?".

Yeah, if my ID ever gets approved, that'll be me. I don't think it could/would be offensive. I'd had that username for all sorts of things over the years, my domain too if I ever get off my rear and work on it sometime. It's one easy way friends can find me online, just look for the same username.

Ok, I've rambled enough for one night. Goodnight :)

Tyg

BTW- My real name is Samantha, I can't remember if that shows up on my VMK profile or not...?

If you missed the first "Late Night with MrGenie" show, MisterToad was kind enough to record the entire performance, compress the video file, break it up into more manageable chunks, and upload each of them. Thanks MisterToad! I am sure this was a ton of work. I just downloaded the first video, and it looks great. Not quite the same as being there, but close! I think you'll enjoy all of the jokes we weren't able to capture in the screenshots, plus the *live* band performance. :)

If you want to check out the videos, MisterToad has posted them in this thread (http://www.vmkforums.com/forums/showthread.php?threadid=682).
