Which signature? the one on VMK or in this boards?

If you mean the boards, you have to pay for that.
Instead on VMK just click the clothing option and underneath your character there is a blue blank space where you can write your siggy.

Well, i don't know how that whole signature thing works for the boards. Because when i view my public profile, it shows that i have a signature and i remember choosing that little icon. but it doesn't show up in posts and i don't know how to change it.

The little icon is the Avatar. To change it do the following:
Click 'Private Messages' or 'User CP' it's almost the same.
On the left bar click 'Edit Avatar'.
Click where it says 'use custom avatar'.
Link the avatar if it is hosted in a web site or upload it if it is just on your computer.

They are called avatars.

First you need to find one, it can't be larger then 64x64 pixels.

Click on your User CP, Click on avatars. And click on upload, and you can upload one from your computer.
