The picture is of Belle from Disney's Beauty and the Beast. I don't really like the face, I had a little trouble with it. The reason I did not link to artpad is because it has not been working for me and my links to there have not been working.

Scarry Girl 04-22-2006, 08:30 PM Here is on I was on a plane ride
Wow that is cool! What tool did you use? I did my entry on arptad, but in rl I mostly use pencil (colored or mechanical).

Idk I forgot. All I knew were that the pencils were quite expensive
Oooo! Very nice work on the skin tone and shading!:) Uh is the scribbly black part supposed to be there or is it just her head melting?

To me it looks like a real photo with an artistic brush stroke filter. You can tell by the uniform patterns and blotches if you look closely.
I have the filters in Photoshop and Paintshop pro and they yeild the same result. The only thing that looks like it has been drawn is the black lines around the outside and maybe some of the hair. I am a graphic designer, its simple to tell when you've used the filters a zillion times. Besides the only way to achieve the effect you've displayed is with oil pastels, not pencils. Even Sanford, Prisma, or Derwent colouring pencils could not achieve that grade of blending. Then the fact you would need to sliver the pastels to get the fine lines.
An artist who doesn't remember his/her tools and methods is like a writer who can't remember the story they published.

Yes there is one in my photoshop, but I just have one Japanese friend.I don't know anyone with colour of hair like that and is japanese.I just saw it on a magazine.I think she is Ayumi Hamasaka.Anyways, why it looks very real is because I used a professional and quite expensive colours and pencils. It took my quite a while to do this. But I think it looks brilliant.I promise this is a real drawing

I think what they're saying is they don't know what kind of pencil they used. There are different types of pencils. There is this one kind of pencil that the led is much softer and kind of oily, like a pastel (and from what I remember they are quite expensive) I too sometimes forget what kind of pencil or pastel I used when using them because when I go to the art supply store I tend to grab something that looks cool and I don't read what the name of the product or style is.
You'd be amazed what one can do with a pencil. There are some really good drawings that looks almost like photographs that were made by a type of pencil.

The good stuff is always the most expensive. I have found some bargans on art supplies before, but they were just on sale. I beleive you that that is a real drawing. You can see the lines on the eyes and the strokes and the hair gives it away a bit; you can tell it was made by pencil.
jeremyv 04-23-2006, 01:43 AM If you really did draw it then I appologize, but I know you can't blend pencils that way. The ones I mentioned above are the expensive and softest ones available, if one name doesn't ring a bell then they must be from another country. ;) Most likely they are Sanfords, although like I did mention, that kind of blending comes from an oil based pastel that is much softer than pastel pencils. Then you would have to add and enhance your lines with proper drawing pencils, not to mention how long it would take.
My version of Ayumi Hamasaki, from Photoshop just for kicks with those filters enhanced so you know what I mean (Using Posterize, Line tools and such):

Thank you for the compliment about the writer/story thing.
Anyways I am searching for the pencil I used for the picture.I have quite a lot of pencils and colours. But I am serious I really did draw the picture.
Chaelle 04-23-2006, 01:50 AM Oooo! Very nice work on the skin tone and shading!:) Uh is the scribbly black part supposed to be there or is it just her head melting?
Maybe it was a bumpy plane ride or the person had highlights huh huh?!

That looks very obvious that it is photoshop.Plus I got the pencils and colours from where I live ,the Uk and due to the fact that you spelled color as in colour I believe your from the UK.So..um idk.I'm still seaching for that pencil!

Nope, not the UK! LoL.
And I did post above that if it is real then I appoligize, so let me just re-state that. I have seen many many renditions of real images on the internet, and honestly it is fairly simple to create any effect you want. What must have happened to lead me to believe you used a program to create the face is the fact you shrunk it down to size and changed the compression which would add those subtle features I picked up on, and the photoshop picture was just a quick job to show how certain filters can create similar effects. If that is actual size, then, well, you know what I'm getting at if you see what I see. And sorry, my scanner is broken so I can't add the pencil highlights so you see what I mean.

Very nice. I especially like the opening painting the canvas :)
jeremyv 05-02-2006, 01:46 AM So who won?
jeremyv 05-02-2006, 11:03 PM Nice to know who the winner is. What a wonderful idea, host an art contest and not inform any of the entries of the results. Great job, you should do it again.
Maribeth 05-02-2006, 11:28 PM Give them a chance, goodness. Some people can't go on every day. :/
They were all nice and I enjoyed reading your arguments ;)

LOL I know, I guess I'm just being impatient at the moment. It has been two days though, but I do understand the time thing. Now I know for sure he won't pick car inferno.
