View Full Version : High School Musical is...
FlyThenFall 04-11-2006, 05:02 PM ...the best inside joke in the entire world. I've seen all of these threads about how much people LOVE this film and the music, but I'd like to put my spin on how I feel about this film.
I was first introduced to it by one of my friends who proclaimed (in his most sarcastic voice), "It was the best movie ever!!!" So...that day I went over to his house and we watched his TiVoed version of the movie. And I laughed so hard, I fell onto the floor. The overdubbing was way too much for me? The contrived plot, very entertaining? Ryan's hats...THE BEST PART of the movie.
I admit that I wasn't impressed with the music (but then again, I listen to only classical and indie rock music), and the facination with it shocked me. If anything, this gave our all-school musical cast (and me in the orchestra) something to joke about constantly.
Be afraid, be very afraid. MTI release rights to it this fall. Z. O. M. G.
Jdrizzle 04-11-2006, 05:14 PM LOL I agree FlyinandFallin! It is really strange and weird I think. I know a lot of people at my school adore that movie. However, I don't think it is that good at all!
I listen to classical music and broadway music pretty often and I wasn't impressed with the music at all.
The part I burst out laughing was when (I don't know their names) the basketball team was like Go Drama Club! G O D R A M A C L U B Exclamation point! Also, their acting was terrible and it was very easy to tell of their lipsinging
futuremartymcfly 04-11-2006, 05:16 PM just wondering, what is it about? lol i'm totally clueless on this, but it definitely doesn't seem to be my type of film, and I only came to know of it when I realized it was the number one best selling soundtrack of the week on itunes. (i'm a pretty avid film music fan)
Miguzi.Man 04-11-2006, 05:26 PM it is about a besketball player who wants to sing and act, a snobby girl who thinks she's a godess, and a whole bunch of other characters who make no sense...along with some really cheesy songs
futuremartymcfly 04-11-2006, 05:29 PM LOl, so let me see if I understand this right, millions of kids have become obsessed with an akward, cliche, cheasy film?
FlyThenFall 04-11-2006, 05:37 PM LOl, so let me see if I understand this right, millions of kids have become obsessed with an akward, cliche, cheasy film?
Why yes. It's amazing. :D
To tell you the level of obsession...let me retell this story:
I was sitting in a classroom after school doing my homework, while someone was blasting the HSM soundtrack from the room's stereo system. As my friend left room, he left me in the room being told to get my "head in the game." Well...I took it upon myself to change the CD to my recording of the Nutcracker Ballet only to have my friend tell me to turn my ugly music off. (And put his back in the CD player.)
It depresses me...I have to tell you.
Although...I get a kick out of Ryan's hats. They're so silly!
Miguzi.Man 04-11-2006, 06:00 PM There have only been a few good disney channel movies ever such as...Cowbelles, 16 again, and that racing one with the girl (not the motorcross one)
futuremartymcfly 04-11-2006, 06:02 PM wow that is amazing, i think i've heard a song or two from itunes, and a person calling the Nutcracker ugly while makes sense considering what they actually want to listen too, lol. Wow though it is scary, worse then the Harry Potter fanatics.
lipgloss123 04-13-2006, 04:22 AM just wondering, what is it about? lol i'm totally clueless on this, but it definitely doesn't seem to be my type of film, and I only came to know of it when I realized it was the number one best selling soundtrack of the week on itunes. (i'm a pretty avid film music fan)
in what section? kids? i never saw it i mean who would buy that stuff? its the one and only thing worse than the movie!
Middiebear 04-13-2006, 04:25 AM It's official... The album went Double Platinum... LOL
Raderin 08-16-2006, 07:11 PM I loved that movie :) I liked it better than Grease because nobody changed themselves. Also they were encouraging eachother too be how they are. I really liked the music too. I agree that the lip singing thing was kind off obvious.. but it was still good music and the dance moves were hard so don't get on their back too much for them having a hard time moving their lips while dancing too a hard dance.
~Raderin
llamasrcool 08-16-2006, 07:26 PM in my opinion i totally cant stand this movie. its so annoying to me and i watched it one time and ill prob. never watch it again. sorry for those who do like it!
hamtaroo 08-16-2006, 07:35 PM i totally love ryan and sharpay!!!!!!!!!!!EOWWWWWWWW!!!!!!!!! KNOW ALL THE DANCE STEPS HEHE
chorustwo 08-16-2006, 07:41 PM I Agree with all of you!! I have been in two broadway plays and never I mean never Do I think this movie is a musical!! They are definatley lip singing. All of my friends are totally obssesed with it and truly I am like "get a life". My buddies in my drama school are also obsessed! I can't believe they actually have a quest for this. I think the songs are annoying. I can't believe they even made this movie. You know, I can wait till Cheetah Girls 2 comes out because there is another movie by the same director of HSM!
MKScorpion 08-17-2006, 02:41 AM ...the best inside joke in the entire world. I've seen all of these threads about how much people LOVE this film and the music, but I'd like to put my spin on how I feel about this film.

Finally, someone who speaks the truth! This movie is so boring. The plot is similar to another movie plot. -coughgreasecough- I have a cold. lol
The songs are sketchy. You can tell that the actor's are lipsyncing!. I'm surprised anyone could like that broken excuse of a movie. IMO.
PirateMario 08-17-2006, 04:19 AM I Still Dont Get what the Cheese is so Great About that Movie!!? Everyone Lip sings, I went to Sleep in that Movie though, about 95% of My WHOLE School Like that Movie! And That Lucas Dude....He is Evil! He Cheats in the DC Games! He shouldn't be The Great DC games >_< Haha! He Should have Been Sharpay! I give that Movie two Thumbs and two Toes ( Go Toes!!) down >_<
CrAzyEm 08-17-2006, 04:31 AM [QUOTE=FlyThenFall;639049 Ryan's hats...THE BEST PART of the movie.

ah yes 1 time it aired on disney me and my big sister watched it since i really cant tell if anyone lip sings yet i asked her and she said that half the movie was lip singing
Silentkid 08-17-2006, 12:46 PM I know. It's a great movie, but not the "best" probley it's because of Zac efron.. lol The movie is just clushay
Thenishall 08-17-2006, 12:51 PM ...the best inside joke in the entire world. I've seen all of these threads about how much people LOVE this film and the music, but I'd like to put my spin on how I feel about this film.

Yes, some of my friends were talking about it and I said "What's that?"
Then they said, "Oh my! You Must See it!"
So, I decided on Tivoing it, and I did.
I laughed so hard, and I laughed at them.
Yet, I still do sometimes watch the Wiggles, so we can all laugh at each other :)

ariellover4life 08-17-2006, 03:32 PM yea i have seen it alot cause my sister talks about and watches all the time she even listens to the music all the tim cause she has the cd.Well everyone on vmk loves to me seeing it alot it is getting really annoying i mean give me a break
Raderin 08-20-2006, 03:16 PM Guys the only reason they lip sing is because they record the music in the studio. Then they dance while lip singing so they don't sound all tired. So stop the lip singing thing please! It is very annoying
maxxkid 08-20-2006, 03:52 PM perhaps, but i know for sure zach had assistance with his voice. look at the credits again.
MKScorpion 08-20-2006, 06:29 PM Yra. Yea. They blended Zach's voice with some other person's voice. Everyone else's voice is their's.
mickeymahomedog 11-20-2006, 06:20 PM i thought it was a pretty good movie and i am going to meet almost all of the people in it but what i don't get is why do people drool over Zac Efron?
Caterpillar AEIOU 11-21-2006, 02:41 AM As a parent, I can say that there is a lot worse on TV than that movie.
It is clean cut, wholesome and there is no violence or adult scenes.
I am glad there is something like that out there.
And yes Zac is blended with another singer, he will even tell you, if you ask him.
DerekJ 11-22-2006, 06:21 PM As for it being marketed, Disney tends to get a little Sally Field about any of ther Channel shows being noticed--They like us, they really like us, time to synergy-market the living daylights out of it! :)
As for it being popular, it tends to be popular with that younger junior-high audience who A) dreams about how cool that big ol' High School is going to be (wow, pep rallies and senior proms!), and B) have never really grown up seeing a real musical, where, like, people actually sing right in the middle of the story...That's neat!
(Fortunately, "Grease" just came back out on DVD, for those who don't know any better.)
HappyGirlKels 11-22-2006, 06:25 PM ...the best inside joke in the entire world. I've seen all of these threads about how much people LOVE this film and the music, but I'd like to put my spin on how I feel about this film.

I think HSM Is kinda a joke, bc on a thread, I saw someone post saying that Zac and Vanessa Limp sinced(?) But I like how the movie is set up. One day i will be on a musical, But don't worry, It will be ten times better!
chorustwo 11-22-2006, 06:34 PM HSM is the worst and cheapest "Musical" I have ever seen! (to rap it all up in my opinion)And the songs are annoying now they have a pop-up edition. Oh wow another annoying advirtisment of the cheap movie.
Raderin 11-22-2006, 06:44 PM I still don't understand why you guys seem so angry about this. HSM didn't force anybody to like like the movie, so why do you hate it so much? It's cool to have opinions but this is just mean! What if one of the members of HSM saw this? This would hurt their feelings. It's just a movie.. If you hate it so much whenever it's on take a deep breathe and change the channel..
Bellezza 11-22-2006, 07:00 PM Some people like this movie, and they have different opinions, I think it was a pretty good movie and a good plot to it! So please dont be so offensive it is very rude
~Lauren<33Happy Turkey Day
PrincessWall 11-22-2006, 07:26 PM Ugh. Someone is making sense, finally. This HSM obsession is insane, very insane.
Slamina 11-23-2006, 03:24 AM Hmm.. I heard that the High School Musical Cast have the #1 best selling CD this year in the WORLD. Is there any truth in this?
TBs_Creation 12-02-2006, 03:06 AM listen to this peoples,
girl in my class
has two HSM t-shirts
another girl in my class
has one HSM Zac folder
and about 400 other has sweatshirts
SSweet 12-02-2006, 12:25 PM wow i guess zac doesnt have a real voice in the moviel. I thought that was a RUMOR!
Tibby 12-17-2006, 02:50 AM Well it is a disney channel movie, so dont expect a 5* brodway musical. I mean come on I actually like it lol i did, because i didnt expect so much of it. This was aimed for younger kids so it wont be top of the line work. And Yes I DID buy the DVD (:
jdrocks 01-22-2007, 05:23 AM If you hate it soo much then why do you have an HSM siggy?!?
DerekJ 01-22-2007, 07:57 PM Well it is a disney channel movie, so dont expect a 5* brodway musical. I mean come on I actually like it lol i did, because i didnt expect so much of it. This was aimed for younger kids so it wont be top of the line work. And Yes I DID buy the DVD (:
I had to sit myself through the DVD last week ONLY for the VMK Park Quest (and ohh, what I don't do for this game...) :Smiley - Harump:
And I am now permanently convinced of my theory that 90% of the mania for this movie is fueled by tweens literally too young to have ever seen a classic movie musical.
(Well, think about it--Before "Chicago" we hadn't had on since, what..."Annie"? And a year before that, remember everyone making the hoo-hah over the unwatchable "Moulin Rouge", just because people, like, sang 'n stuff?)
Okay, so Kenny Ortega still has a few of his old "Newsies" rhythm-licks on "Getcha Head in the Game":
But, this being a Disney Channel movie--who believes all teen entertainment should look like "Lizzie McGuire"--the 00's-Grease "realism" of teens talking about cliques and cellphones is, erm...undercut somewhat by
A) Monique Coleman forced to pretend she's That's So Raven because the real one was busy, and
B) Ashely Tisdale flouncing around and camping up her faux-Lizzie stock-sitcom role to the third balcony like a character who'd just walked out of "Hairspray". (Another movie most of its audience has never likely seen.)
Disney Channel movies: You can dress 'em up, but you can't take 'em out in public.
rockclimbing 01-22-2007, 08:16 PM - Hides - take it away!
- is it gone?
i dislike aka hate hsm or as you can say scared of it
MILLIONS OF PEOPLE have a obsession with it.
every time i see a person who loves/likes hsm gives me the creeps even if im a boy.
thats my opinion
also ive heard of the HSM board game, lipgloss, tshirts, folders, purses,
The movie has gone insane!
magyann 01-23-2007, 01:14 AM the acting in HSM i know Ashly Teasdale can sing and act better than that disney holds her back too much just listen too her expect he said she said (why its called expect i do not know only difference is it says night in the expect and not day)
KingdomsKeeper 01-31-2007, 01:27 AM I agree with you.
avastkeith 01-31-2007, 04:11 AM Bop to the top almost caused me to have brain damage. Woo it was close!
I agree with HSM haters 100%

And although some have complained about WDW's park version of the "High School Musical Pep Rally" being at the Tomorrowland stage, as many the Jungle Cruise skipper has joked, perhaps it belongs there, in a way--
Because, when you think about it, what single image more effectively captures the hope and promise of a bright new Tomorrow quite like...an entire graduating generation of HSM fans? :ththerethere6il:
PATRICKHATRICK94 02-03-2007, 01:21 AM ok the movie is barable to me but when ever i hear the word Corbin Blu or how ever you spell his name its drives me nuts!! the fact that people go that crazy of that kind of a movie is insane ok here's a good movie some thing that auctually happens in real life and some thing that doesn't have a song every five minutes im in touch wit the acting biz and well i see some good material that never gets released its such a shame we need more good movies!! not a another musical like HSM2!!!!!!!!!! please help me someone!!!!!!!! put me in a padded cell!!!!:pork:
Hikari 02-03-2007, 10:32 PM I don't know why they are even making a 2nd one.
I really liked HSM at first, just the movie, then Disney is trying to make it it's biggest money bringer.
PrincessWall 02-05-2007, 10:37 PM That does'nt have a song in it every five minutes
Dude, it's a musical....
:val05: Wall
princesgirl 02-06-2007, 02:34 AM great another thread about how much they hate Hight School Musical..
Fairy 02-06-2007, 03:51 AM I only got the dress, cause who don't love a red dress?
monilynn 02-18-2007, 04:33 PM uhhh. okay. so vanessa hudgens can't sing. zac efron had to have his voice mixed with someone else. and ryan dresses like a pretty boy.
it's so easy to get caught up with the hsm craze because let's face it; it's everywhere! but the story has no real backbone to it. she just conviniently shows up at his high school and they conviniently sing well together. i don't think i've ever watched the entire movie just bits of it because it was getting to be too much.
blueotter 02-18-2007, 06:35 PM Zac's voice was never "blended" with anything. It was Seeley through and through.
-blueotter
anydisney_fan 03-17-2007, 01:06 AM hey did you know that Ryans hats are really his and the only reason i like it is bc it has Ashley Tisdale in i mean i cant believe ppl actually wanted to buy the movie and go to the concerts here is one thing I HAVE to say LOL

ShadowYourMan 04-11-2007, 12:04 AM Nah, I'll stick to TMNT. (the first live action one looks funny)
Carnavale 04-11-2007, 12:34 AM LOL I agree FlyinandFallin! It is really strange and weird I think. I know a lot of people at my school adore that movie. However, I don't think it is that good at all!

I Agree,I Think disney trys a bit to much to make Comedy films.
But i say that HMS Was more of a kid film Then a Teen Film
:wave2:
maxxkid 04-11-2007, 02:10 AM HMS was ok, i liked it until it got out of proportion. Some populars liked it, so a entire school liked it, so someones sybilng who goes to a different school decided to like it, until we have the new definition of pandemic.
ShadowYourMan 04-11-2007, 01:38 PM Zac Efron should be the Shredder in the next TMNT movie. He should have a robot voice like the Shredder.
ShadowYourMan 04-22-2007, 01:17 PM Lets make more TMNT movies so it could beat HSM's record!
