Where do posts go?

I replied to a very simple post a few minutes ago and now the post has dissappeared.

Does the person making the post have the ability to end it?

this happend to me once where a modd was montering the forum its on and the had to make sure its not inapporite

that i would understand but it was so simple. Someone had a quest question and I posted an answer and then it was gone.
