Mr.Lunatix 04-05-2006, 12:52 AM Me and Nedakh were giving the honors to test out the Quest Engine so you guys can enjoy our homemade quests to make the launch of Tomorrowland even better! We have been testing it throughout the day, and are very pleased with the feedback you guys are giving us. We are glad you are having a blast doing them, and we are trying to create a quest each day for you guys to enjoy, that way it doesn't get boring! :) If you guys have any questions for either of us, or just want to know how the quest system works, we'll both be glad to help out, and soon you guys can buy one yourself! Enjoy VMK, it just keeps getting better.
MrL and Ned~
bobtheadventurer 04-05-2006, 12:56 AM so how does it work, lol? how do you set what to do?
Mr.Lunatix 04-05-2006, 01:26 AM so how does it work, lol? how do you set what to do?
The way it works, is you create your own quests, using several different tasks a few of them are
*Say a word
*Find the Item
*Using Magic
*Use a Emote
*Change CLothes
*Find a NPC
*Visit a room
All of those things including tons more, are things you can make people do. The one i love is the Find the Item , where i can go into a public room, such as Fireworks Lobby, and place a item for the questers to find.
The way you set your prizes are first you decide how many people you want to compete, then you take things from your inventory, and place them in the prize list.
You can set each quest to either Race by a Time limit, or the 1st to finish wins the first place prize.
When you are done setting it up, you have to test your quest and then your ready to launch it. When you open your quest, your Kiosk tower will light up, and a wave signal floats through the air, its kind of cute.
Any other questions?
bobtheadventurer 04-05-2006, 01:31 AM on find the item, what items can you place down?
Mr.Lunatix 04-05-2006, 01:34 AM A Horseshoe, Skull, Clam, Jewel, Space looking thing, Clover, and a 50th Mickey resembling the Hidden Mickeys.
AstroAJ 04-05-2006, 01:43 AM I'm really new to this game and I'm not that old and I wuz wunderin how do u get to the spoilers page thing because I have no idea how to do the quest thing?
itsAPRIL 04-05-2006, 01:49 AM Is your quest open? :)
RedRockingMint 04-05-2006, 01:50 AM can i come to it?
AstroAJ 04-05-2006, 01:56 AM hey wuts ur prize??
Mr.Lunatix 04-05-2006, 02:01 AM For now me and Ned's prizes are very cheap easy things to obtain, however for now its just the experience that counts, I am sure you will both see from us some rares for those utlimate questers :)
I will be open later tonight I am working on a new quest as we speak. But Ned's i am sure is open, you can try Ned's Adventure Quest :) He would love to have ya.
Schmoofy 04-05-2006, 02:06 AM You should probably link rooms with Ned, MrL. I am working on completing the quests right now, but right when I do you can bet I am making a quest. The Smooth Quest ;)
prisoner 04-05-2006, 10:19 AM Can you place the items in your own rooms, or just in public rooms?
Can you require people to enter your own rooms, or just public rooms?
Can you limit people to getting just one award from your quest (like the VMK-run quests do)?
How big is the quest machine?
Django249 04-05-2006, 12:24 PM Is the Quest Engine reusable? I wouldn't want to spend my hard-earned credits on just one quest!
Mermaidviolet 04-05-2006, 01:04 PM Haha! Really Kewl MrL! Very cool indeed :) i want that for sure ;) Im going to get it today i hope.. @_@
StrawxBerrys 04-05-2006, 01:09 PM Heya Mermaid! Haven't seen you! But MrL Thats a Questastic idea! Good luck! Ill be sure to come down tonight ;P.
- Straw
P.S How can you 'place' items for them to find? You can only do that in your room?
randy_man1992 04-05-2006, 02:40 PM Can you place the items in your own rooms, or just in public rooms? This I am not entirely sure about, but I think that that it can go anywhere, seeing that if you put it in you own guest room that was empty, no one could get to it.
Can you require people to enter your own rooms, or just public rooms? You have to enter the room with the quest generator in it. Click the generator.
Can you limit people to getting just one award from your quest (like the VMK-run quests do)? Yes. You can give them one items, two items, etc.How big is the quest machine? It is the same size as a stack of crates as high as they can go. It's as wide as four crates.
Good luck with your new game (can't fool me, Priz)
prisoner 04-05-2006, 02:57 PM Can you place the items in your own rooms, or just in public rooms? This I am not entirely sure about, but I think that that it can go anywhere, seeing that if you put it in you own guest room that was empty, no one could get to it.

I think I may have been unclear about my question.
I know that two of the possible tasks are "enter a room" and "find an item". What I meant was if we could require the tasks to deal with our own rooms, or only in public rooms.
Can you limit people to getting just one award from your quest (like the VMK-run quests do)? Yes. You can give them one items, two items, etc.
Again, I think I was unclear. I realize that each prize can be whatever we want.
My question is more like "In the VMK-run quests, they are able to hand out only one pin to a person. So you can play it many times, but only get one prize. Can we do the same thing?"
Mostly, I don't want to create a quest, and then have someone play it over and over to get my stuff.
How big is the quest machine? It is the same size as a stack of crates as high as they can go. It's as wide as four crates.
FOUR? ugh. How deep? (How much floor space will I be wasting with this pile of junk?)
Good luck with your new game (can't fool me, Priz)
Not trying to fool anyone at all. :) I don't think I'm the only one that has plans for one of these critters... as soon as I can get my hands on it.
cteddiesgirl 04-05-2006, 03:55 PM Like Priz, I am wondering if you can limit prizes to one per person no matter how many times they play.
Also, when you up a quest for people to do, how do they find it? Will it come up as possible quests in each person's quest box? Or is it like now when you have a game room that you have to somehow get people into your room?
Although, I don't worry much about floor space in rooms. I can always just get me another skull rock room. :D
Otherwise, this is a great idea. I can see some people coming up with some great and ingenious quests for people. :)
LordIllidan 04-05-2006, 10:59 PM Might as well bombard y'all with questions, as well...
The way you set your prizes are first you decide how many people you want to compete, then you take things from your inventory, and place them in the prize list.
Are prizes required for the quest to operate (I have... different plans for the quest generator :))
-corolarry: Can you allow an unlimited amount of people to compete?
rcpratt3 04-06-2006, 02:34 PM Well I bought the quest engine the day Tomorrowland came out. I got lucky and followed a friend into Star Traders when Yavn was there. After when I was in my room, I was asked by staff to test it. So I made a quest which I will open up later tonight, but I came across a glich I think. When you ask people to play mini-games such as haunted mansion, you can set the limit on the minimum amount of ghosts they need to catch to move on to the next task in the quest. When I was testing my quest, I was quite surprised to see that limit was not revealed to people playing the quest. So unless we dictionary dance in our descriptions, they will have no idea how many ghosts they need to catch. This is also true with other mini-games like fireworks.
Do you know of another way besides dictionary dancing to show people doing the quest what the limit is?
Schmoofy 04-06-2006, 02:38 PM I noticed that as well. I try to stick with using things you can say such as 50th, 20K, and 2l8.
CaptNemo 04-08-2006, 09:38 AM I did learn several interesting things about setting up quests and because the quest generators are new there may or may not be a few things that still need to be worked out:
1) Acquire an item - If you happen to be carrying this item with you (in your mobile inventory - not storage!), you automatically "complete" the task. However, I tried several options, but it appears as though if you do *not* have the item, you must purchase it. It doesn't seem like you may trade for the item or pick it up out of storage.
For example, most people have put their ice blocks away in storage, but one of my tasks was going to be to take an ice block to the Yeti. I completed the task easily if I was already carrying the ice block before I started the task. Obviously you can't purchase ice blocks, but if I went to retrieve the ice block from storage (or if I traded for it), the quest never seemed to recognize I had the item. I also tried using a code to see if putting it into my inventory would work, but that didn't seem to help. Unless there is something specific a questor needs to do with the item after they pick it up/win it/trade for it, but I couldn't figure out what that might be.
2) Visit a room vs. Visit an NPC (Non-Playing Character) - The subtlety here is that even though you might be in a room with an NPC (Esmerelda, Yeti, Shrunken Ned, etc.), just being in the room with them doesn't complete the task. You actually need to click on the NPC (like if you were collecting your daily credits) to complete the task.
3) Find an item - Ok, this is just pretty awesome. The icons come from each different land so you can tailor it to your specific quest (I used the skull icon for my Villains Quest). I discovered very creative ways of guiding the questor's path so there are only so many options for them to get from Point A to Point B within the time allotted for the task. I'm anxious to see how creative this option gets...
Which leads me to a question I don't know that I've ever seen answered on here - Is there any way to distinguish the five different monorails without actually getting on them? For example, are there any markings that might tell a rider WHICH monorail is pulling into the station? Curiouser and curiouser... :)
VMK staff and developers have done an excellent job to date creating interesting new challenges (although I take exception to the recent increases to complete the new Tomorrowland quests) and rolling them out in a relatively steady manner over the past year. That said I know there are a number of talented and creative people on these forums who can knock out some pretty fantastic rooms/games/rides/etc. I look forward to trying your quests and I hope everyone will come try VMK Villains Quest!
prisoner 05-08-2006, 02:55 PM I would not have expected it to be possible for players to repeat a quest on their same character, but a friend noticed that the engine would let her do it a second time.
WHAT? Ugh. Several of us asked this question back on the first day and didn't hear anything. I would have thought Disney would have given us the same features they gave the game-run quests.
Oh... silly me...
LordIllidan 05-08-2006, 05:16 PM Actually, they may have fixed that problem already. While I was at another person's quest room, I read about this and wanted to see for myself if it would actually let me start the quest again after I finished it. (I would quit the quest afterwards, of course). It gave me the same pop up as normal: "You have already completed this quest."
