Dateline Retro Rocket: On Monday August 8 many VMK players arrived in their space suits for a group photo to honor the real Astronauts aboard Space Shuttle Discovery. As the room began to fill with suited guests, it crept up the popularity board, causing several non-suited guests to drop in. They were politely booted (sorry, how DO you boot politely! LOL!) so the picture could be made. After the picture was taken we all traveled to Town Square on Main Street to gather around the flag. The pictures were merged and a caption was added. I hope you appreciate the result!

That's very nice...but why boot the suit-less? Just b/c they can't afford a suit?

I agree that was kind of rude NASAMan maybe they did have a suit.

Because they were wearing the suits to support discovery and they needed room for people with suits.

Yes, I know that; but can't people STILL celebrate without expensive clothing?

I think the critics need to look up what is meant by performance art. NASAman was trying to create a specific effect - the space suits, the space, the flag, etc. Booting people is the only tool he had to help shape that.

We have attached negative connotations to the word "boot" that I think are unjustified in some cases.

Appreciate the art for what he is trying to show and express.

(Now... I'll nit-pick that the mission was to the international space station, and there was an international crew on it, so the American Flag shot was... not entirely accurate. But nobody listens to me when i stand on that soapbox anyway, and its a small nit on an otherwise very nicely done presentation.)

The bulk of the mission was to ensure that future shuttle launches can be safer and potantial problem can be seen and dealt with while in orbit. The space station rendezvous was one of those "while you're in the neighborhood" kind of things more than anything else.

So I believe the American flag picture is appropriate. The Discovery had a completely American crew this time and the flight is the American astronaut vehicle's return to space.

Actually, Soichi Noguchi represented JAXA (Japan Aerospace Exploration Agency).

Still a great tribute! I'm glad they're home!

Actually, Soichi Noguchi represented JAXA (Japan Aerospace Exploration Agency).Absolutely right; I stand corrected.

My initial piece of information stated he was "Japanese-American," but that turned out to be wrong. My bad. :Embar:

Still, it was a U.S. craft and considered a U.S. achievement.

I'm sorry I missed this awesome event! I was all suited up and ready to go, but kept having problems logging on. The pictures are awesome and I'm glad so many people participated. :)

I'm sending this to N.A.S.A, and they might even show it on the news.

I wish I could have been there, Nasaman.

I HIGHLY Doubt that would work, but good luck with it.

I appreciate the response the picture generated! I had to post before the landing was made to get to a Mars launch conference on time. I am proud and very relieved the landing was successful!

Prisoner - you got it! This was an artistic attempt to get as many suits together as possible. I asked those without suits to move to another part of the room, and when they did not move they were booted. Doing this actually allowed three more suited players in. I've never booted before - more rooms are NOT closed - but it was needed because some who participated needed to leave for bed (school is in session in many states already!)

About your nit-pik: A very good point, and if I tend to agree with you. I have a picture on my wall of me and suit with the flag and someone (I think Meag) said, "Let's go take a picture with the flag like NASAMan has". I knew immediately what she meant, and we all went. A few extras came along and were welcome! I included the image because it looked cool, patriotic, and covered some non-suited guests I did not have a chance to boot! (LOL!)

As it was, thanks again for all who participated!
