They are already telling us that it is going to be just as bad as the last two years. All I say is hooray for concrete houses and hurricane 5 roofs and shutters. We already lost the roof all the way once and partially twice! And if I even think anything above a level one is headed my way I'm outta here. I live wayyyyyyyy to close to the ocean to take a chance!:banghead:

actually, i heard that is wasn't supposed to be near as bad this year. It was just a really hot year then. But remember, dont believe everything you hear lol

Sure, hurricanes are great for surfing and staying out all hours of the night playing twister- but besides that hurricanes get old fast.

Katrina came and I was without power for 5 days. It was fun, got a few days off of school and some awesome surfing in. Wilma came and I was without power for 18 days. Not as fun.
The first week or so of Wilma was not bad at all, but the novelty wore off fast. Watching a five inch black and white TV, cooking toast on coals, and going to school with no water or power isn't as exciting after two weeks.

I can deal with hurricanes, but not a Wilma each year. Give me a crazy year, but then a year to rest.

No! Not hurricanes again! I thought we got lucky and then bam! Wilma hits, and I couldn't go trickotreating, so I went on VMK.. Anyway.. I believe this hurricane season (the last one of 05) was the worst/longest?

I don't want to even think of hurricanes! Though they are fun because I get to watch movies all day and play vmk :)

And where I live! We are all safe and all, but you ride down my street and see nothing abnormal, then you get to where there are no more houses and only trees, the memiories of the hurricane come back.

Well, we cant really predict what the weather will bring this year, but I'm not sure if anything can be as bad as last years hurricanes... As I dont live by water, I dont need to worry about this as much as people who do live near water. I have been in one Hurricane, (we had a reservation at Disney and had to leave a couple days early just because we wanted to go really badly and people told us your crazy, etc. I just shruged when people said that and said: All for the Mouse.) I was in Hurricane Gene, which was only a catagory 2 when it hit land, so we were never in much danger at all actually. We stayed in a hotel, and the shingles were flying off the roof, and it was totally windy, but it was nice to know we were in a safe and cozy hotel room :)

We lost our roof from Frances and Jeanne in 2004 it took about a year and a half to redo our house and make it so someone could live in it again. When you get one hurricane after another after another like we do in South Florida it does get old fast like another player said. My sister was without power and on generator for 18 days after Wilma.

Alot of the tiles of our roof came off in Wilma, and power was out for 6 days.(or was it 7..) School was out that whole time. It's a great thing we stocked up on gas Wilma as the lines for gas were huge. And the day our electric went on, we went out that whole day to stock up on supplies to come home to a house with electric. So no, hurricanes are not that fun, but the wind is, you go out on your bikes and you dont even have to pedle.. But I still hope this year is not as bad.

Here is a link about the weather experts thoughts on the upcoming hurricane season. They say the official predictions are coming out May 22.

yah I'm another Floridian near the ocean. I was at a friends house on a sleepover when Wilma hit us. We were trapped for hours with her brother playing guitar in a bathroom. I heard were going to get just as bad hurricanes this year. Worst part is alot of houses are still getting fixed from past hurricanes.

i know, there a tons of blue tarps all over the place here, fortunately for us we didn't get hit bad, just lots of tree damage. And, lol, we were in WDW during Katrina.

Last year, I got hit all pretty badly, but not as bad as New Orleans. In Katrina, I didn't have electricity for 5 days, and it was miserable, humid, and hot @_@ In Wilma, I didn't have electricity for about 2 weeks so I went to WDW :D

The word I hear is that we may be in the beginning of a 20 years cycle of high hurricane productivity. This year is supposedly year 3. As I live in New Orleans, I can tell you that, although last year's devastation was (and remains) terrible and widespread, this is not the worst case scenario for New Orleans. A category 4 or 5 store moving directly up the Mississippi river would cover the entire city with water. Frankly, I don't believe NOLA would recover from a storm of that magnitude.

really?? i just had a huge rain downpour two weeks ago, and unfortanetly the hurricanes aren't scaring many people away, and prices continue to rise

I personally can not wait until I can move back to the Orlando area. South FL is extremely expensive and being so close to the water doesn't help either. I only have one more year until I get my degree and then I am looking at moving back. :happy: Of course I would then be close to Disney again! (lol)not the only reason to move back but a darn good one!

well actually we went through rita but it looked as it were a direct hit, all we got was a storm and some wind however most places had no gas, food, water or any type of supplies. but hey be lucky we weren't around with the dinosaurs because of the 500 m.p.h. hypercanes they went through! lol

WO! this is a popular thread!!! i forgot to check it LOL but supposivly (sp?) this year is supposed to be worse that the last two because the gulf never cooled down... and i live like 18 miles from the coast and lemme tell u... it is NOT fun to pick up all the branches and stuff... we had like a few days without power for katrina... but u know? its kinda fun... i love to watch the weather channel and get prepaired... and i LOVE letting the wind hold u up... how my house is constructed we have like a vent of where the wind passes through very fast... and it was SUPER fun!!! i know it causes destruction... but i live the tenseness of everyone... idk y but i love hurricane season

During Katrina, I didn't have electricity for many days, but we had my mom's laptop to play on with CDs. It only lasted for a couple of hours, although.The worst part of it was that my dad was in some other country. :(

I am lucky that I survived. Although I don't regret eating cookies for lunch.. ;)

Let's hope that this year the hurricanes are weak.

i dont really like it when the power goes out but us central florida ppl (orlando,east coast area, cocoa beach) get it bad. i like going out when its really windy. the first hurricane we watched our neighbors porch be destroyed since your not allowed to have that type of porch here. my friend just got back from the mariner of the seas and he said that a tropical depression formed over them (to bad that they locked the doors). for you ppl who don't have to deal with this stuff plz dont say that we have it easy because we dont. also we have neighberhood hurricane partys that we have the night before the storm.:CastMem:

Alberto is still a Tropical Storm, and its outer bands have just reached Florida this morning. The rain is really coming down, but we haven't had too much problem with the wind. We had to take about 3 inches of water out of our pool for fear of that it might overflow. The Weather Channel says expect around 4-8 inches.

I just glad TS Alberto is not a hurricane! I hate hurricanes!!!

This isnt a lol matter. Hurricanes arent funny to some people. Just as the people who had to go through Katrina and other hurricanes feel terrible about there homes and families people are still missing and everyone is afraid. Especially if another comes. Now what had happened last year scared the entire union and the government is now prepared to do whatever when things like these happen. Now just because you may not live in a place where their are no hurricanes you may live somewhere where tornadoes come or any other natural disaster. Now i live in washington,dc and we had 1 hurricane come around and that was isabelle. Even though it wasnt strong alot of people were hurt and houses were 2 were my mom's family is down in Florida. So how do you think i feel or other people feel when hurricanes come and destroy land or kill people its heartbreaking. Now i just want to end my opinion at that. Btw-This year is hot 2 it reached above 90 when May had started!

Our lights and stuff were flickering and went off for a little bit yesterday. We've been having a few severe thundertorm warnings lately, but that's still not nearly as bad as a hurricane.

Well i was a victume of Hurricane Katrina and Rita, and I was effected by it by alot ( some stuff I do not want to discuse ) and i have been hearing that it will probably open as a 2 then open as a 3. WHO KNOWS? They just predict and I really hope that I am safe this next hurricane. Oh yes and for those who were wondering, my hows is not damaged alot, we just had one tiny,tiny hole in the roof. Oh yes tons of things are opening in New Orleans!:)

Meh hopefully there will be no hurricanes that are higher then a 3 .last year i was with out power for 7 days and 2 weeks without school which was okay but beacause of the hurricanes i didnt celebrate halloween (no power ) and i wasnt on vmk for halloween therefore missing the special stuff for that was on sale !

same here:( I was so mad, well i went back to where i evacuated to and we stayed there about a week. We had finally came back what felt like a year!!! :eek:

I am a hurrican victume from new orleans and we are scared to death of the next hurricane and it is to be that is will be starting of rough but it will be softer. it probably will not be a killer hurricane

From what I've heard, I think there is going to be... like.. 6 storms that are Hurricanes. I'm not sure. I have a bad memory.

I really hope none hit Florida, because I had two trop. storms hit us (Katrina- just a thunderstorm and Dennis) and Wilma hit us last year, along with Frances and Jean the year before. It's really scary. And interesting.

I live in Florida myself, and in the past 2 years I've been hit by about 8 hurricanes and tropical storms. Maybe more, didn't count. That's not counting Alberto this year and any future ones.

I'm thinking it'll be as bad or worse than last year. Although people may think it can't get worse than Katrina. It can.

i am horrified of hurricanes and tornados, all becuase there was a tornado right next to the car while we were in it! but no one was hurt just alot more firewood , so maybe i'll move to canada, where there aren't hurricanes, or maybe Montana, great in the summer and winter.

Wow... I went through Katrina andRita and let me tell you... not fun at all! Well ok I know everyone who is a victim will kill me but i actually like hurricanes. They are very interesting and unpredictable, which makes them very eye-catching. And we go to the bank (for Rita I pressed the 911 under the desk on accident O_o oops haha it was pretty funny tho..) with my whole extended family and its really fun to just chill with them. And I loveall the tension of everyone running around. Idk it just makes me excited. I watch the weather channel like all day when there is a hurricane so I can find out more information! But hey, we have had one so far this season, but wait till August. Thats when the real action begins.

Well we still have like 4 months left of hurricane season. The first major hurricane i went through was Charley. Thats when i started 6th grade. We didnt even have a full week of school ( Charley came on my 5th day of school ) b4 school had to be shut down for 2 weeks. Which was fun!!!! :D

4 months of hurricane season to go... anyways, last year I passed through Katrina and Wilma, and some tropical storms as well. I hope this year it is'nt that bad....

I'm in SoFlo. I got directly hit by charley. It's not so bad for me when a hurricane comes. Theres always a fun evacuation spot to go to! And no school! But on the bad side: people that have to stay during the hurricane have no power.

I really dont want any hurricanes, i got traumatized when wilma hit my are @_@ it was terrible! Shutters where flying everywhere and broke through my neighbors house and she almost got killed. She almost died.. Freaky O.o

Well of course as usual, my mother is looking on the negative side of things about the Hurricanes. Knock on wood, our house has withstood 4 Hurricanes and will get through more. I can make it without power usally, because we have a little small TV that we watch. Hope None come this year :)

Many tropical storms have given us bad rain here where I live. So bad roofs are falling etc.. It's just from Tropical storm rains that hit where I live, and has hit many other places.

I don't live in a place where we get hurricanes. We get earthquakes (eye twitch), dry lightning (those two wildfires that are in soCal that merged are less than 30 miles from my house), and uber hot weather + humidity (Yesterday it was 118 where I live, plus the humidity, plus the smoke from the wildfires o_0).

I've experienced blizzards before, when I lived in Michigan. Is a hurricane kind of like that? As far as being stuck inside for the longest time, can't go anywhere without it being uber dangerous?

well a hurricane is dangerous and there are high winds and you usually get flooded and it can last a day at least and usually you have to do with out power for a while ( which is really evil ) , shops are closed so you have to stock upp in supplies , trees come down from the winds . I like it when we get out of school thouhg :)

you should see alexandria (or lake charles... i get them mixed up haha) there is still all kind of boats and trash on levees... its blue roof city over there and NOLA but not where i live :) hehe we had one on my shead once... but we were building it then lol

There is two storms out there! TS Beryl, on the East coast, and Hurricane Daniel, which isn't going to be a threat to the US. To all the people in Beryl's path, I wish you good luck!

According to the Weather Channel, its still a TS with winds of 65 mph. They said its probably gonna strengthen by tomorrow, but as of now its s TS :)
