View Full Version : No shame in being bad!
dizneydesi 06-08-2005, 01:28 AM I have read many thread that indicated how well someone is doing in a game and about the pins and perks granted as a result. I have also read threads that support one's improvement and coming together to help others, as in the level one bronze sparkler pin thread http://www.vmkforums.com/forums/showthread.php?t=441&page=1&pp=10
So in the spirit of support and knowing that that i and others like me are not alone, i pose this question:
How Bad Are You?
Post your bad scores, get support , and see your progress in the mini-games!
Say it loud and say it proud: I Stink! :p :)
yes, those scores are my best and i sweated mightily to get them! my averages are: Jungle cruise= 7,300- 8,900
pirates= 2,050
fireworks= 49,000
Alexander 06-08-2005, 01:34 AM I am really bad at Jungle Cruise for some reaons. I don't know why, but the whole game reminds me of Pokemon SNAP. The only thing I need to come to figure out is the boat controls, which is the main reason why my score stays in the 12K - 18K range. I don't know if you get anything from it (I'm suspecting the Teleportation pin since the animals pop up and then out and then back up again), but at least I get an easy 20 credits just cruising and taking pictures.
dizneydesi 06-09-2005, 07:08 AM i guess everyone is really doing well. i hear you alexander! :)
SpinMarty 06-18-2005, 07:09 AM No, I am bad as well.
I am not trying to make excuses but I don't think that it helps playing on a laptop without a mouse.
In the fireworks game I think that I am doing well sometimes until I see my name at the bottom (or near bottom) of the list to be eliminated!
dizneydesi 06-18-2005, 08:47 AM happens to me a lot. i will do my best game and still be booted out in the first or second level! lol i will have to try the early morning technique to see how far i can go with not so high scores.
Tinklover 06-18-2005, 01:19 PM I'm not that good at the games even when i only play agenst my self (pirate game) I still lose. Then same with firework. But I'm better at Photo. Thanks for posting this.
BadPete 06-18-2005, 01:56 PM well i think bad is all realitive...... i used to think i was terrible at fireworks my original scores were like 80-100k then I started playing more and practicing. I was stuck at about 180k for about a week .... now this week i am getting about 205-220k!! so the practice has really paid off I guess :)
pirates i have always been pretty good at. its all about learning the correct angles at firing the cannons at and then getting your movements down. remember to stay healthly and hit and run is the best tactic. the number one mistake i normally see is people just pulling next to their targets and trading fire. you will not win this way unless you are on level three and you have ghosted your ship!!
i do not think i am that great at jungle cruis either but i really dont play it cause i dont find it as fun as the other two games.
and finally i am really bad at the music game, mostly because in TONE DEAF  LOL
Saragirl 06-18-2005, 07:33 PM I am so bad at fireworks that I have stopped playing, LOL. One of my problems is I am stuck using a touch pad instead of a mouse. It makes the fireworks game really hard for me. :(
AliceInVMK 06-18-2005, 08:07 PM Oh goodness, I'm terrible at the Jungle Cruise game. I've never gotten higher than about 18,000, and I always crash into everything.

I feel your pain, only I am a mouse user on a desktop that apprantly isn't powerfull enough to run the game at the speed the programers what it to run at.

maybe you should invest in a mouse for your lap top! they dont cost that much and at least that way you can play better! ( PS it has lots of other uses too! ;))
I play much better using a mouse on my newer laptop than i do playing on our older desktop computer :)
dizneydesi 06-20-2005, 04:47 PM I feel your pain, only I am a mouse user on a desktop that apprantly isn't powerfull enough to run the game at the speed the programers what it to run at.
I so know how you guys feel about fireworks game. i have a mouse that is good but my computer is not quite what is needed to get high scores. now, with a 10 player round, i can't seem to make it to level 2 anymore. how i long for the early days of beta when i made it to round five every time! if i had only known about the bronze sparkler pin then! LOL needless to say, i am hesitant even to practice this game. however unless i practice i won't get any better! lol
i played the music game for the first time last night. made a mix that i thought was pretty good. so i saved it and played it and cleared the dance floor! i thought that people had oher places to go so i replayed it later. same thing happened! how is that for bombing!!!!lol
Alexander, would you mind sharing your success tips?
fortunately, because of my determination to furnish my new room, i have steadily gotten better in jungle cruise. unfortuntately, so has everyone else!lol now the high scores are in the 50,000 range.
what else is a person to do though to keep up interest in the game but practice? :)
Alexander 06-20-2005, 05:32 PM i played the music game for the first time last night. made a mix that i thought was pretty good. so i saved it and played it and cleared the dance floor! i thought that people had oher places to go so i replayed it later. same thing happened! how is that for bombing!!!!lol
Alexander, would you mind sharing your success tips?Take your time with the mixing and matching of samples. My most cohesive mix took me well over 4 hours to complete given the 30 second limit you have.
MrGenie 06-20-2005, 05:51 PM Take your time with the mixing and matching of samples. My most cohesive mix took me well over 4 hours to complete given the 30 second limit you have.
Heh, I'm glad someone else besides me has obsessed for over an hour on a single mix. :) Four hours though? That must be a record!
I only have three mixes ("Crazy Mouse", "Got My Groove On", and "Shiregirl Needs a Vellamint"). First one I spent about half an hour on just listening to all of the new sounds. Second one (my bread-n-butter) I spent about an hour and a half on. Last song was kind of a mix-improv timed contest we had, so I spent about five minutes on it.
Alexander 06-20-2005, 06:00 PM Heh, I'm glad someone else besides me has obsessed for over an hour on a single mix. :) Four hours though? That must be a record! That's for my first mix, Disney Pop Magic (because I couldn't use D-Pop Magic, which is the name of a Tokyo Disneyland show I'm rather fond of).
The reason being is that each sample has their own set of timing. I spent most of the time trying to figure out how much time I had between beats, notes, and rests. The hard part was trying to find samples that were in the same range as the previous sample, which makes up my complicated bass line in D-Pop Magic.
Yes, I used to play an intrument, so I know what I'm talking about. (Violin, if you are curious.)
My second mix, Club Disney (also named after a Tokyo Disneyland show), is just me experimenting with a better build up and dance drop. I don't like the fact that it is so short, because I could easliy make it at least a minute long if given the chance, but oh well.
dizneydesi 06-21-2005, 07:18 AM i am really glad to know it takes some time to mix a good song. i spent a good couple of hours on sunday trying to make a decent (loosely defined) mix. i decided to play the music game for the points only and then quit; however, now i am hooked! lol
yes, becoming familiar with the timing of the samples is taking along time. i especially love a good base line. get the funk down! lol that is what i spent most of my time on last visit.
i was a high school band geek, so what i know about constructing music is rather limited. but i know a good tune when i hear it! lol
"Shiregirl Needs a Vellamint", ROFLOL
Alexander 06-21-2005, 07:22 AM Yeah, the music game is one of those games that prove the old proverb true. You can't judge a book by its cover. It's one of those creative hidden gems I love to pick at whenever I get... creative.
captain_dl 06-21-2005, 04:47 PM maybe you should invest in a mouse for your lap top! they dont cost that much and at least that way you can play better! ( PS it has lots of other uses too! ;))
I play much better using a mouse on my newer laptop than i do playing on our older desktop computer :)I use an optical mouse with my laptop. It really helps. I only wish they had the option to use the WASD keys for movement like every other computer game these days. It would be much more comfortable than the arrow keys (Yavn ??? :) )

I'm with you. There needs to be at least one game that has no mouse controls.
bethsboyz 06-21-2005, 06:44 PM I stink at the Pirates game............I mean, I'm really bad!
dizneydesi 06-22-2005, 08:56 AM I use an optical mouse with my laptop. It really helps. I only wish they had the option to use the WASD keys for movement like every other computer game these days. It would be much more comfortable than the arrow keys (Yavn ??? :) )
stupid Q: what are the WASD keys?
bethsboyz, until this last weekend, i hovered around 2500 or less in my pirate scores. in fact, most games i would get around 1200 or less and be all sweaty palmed really trying. until someone tipped me off to playing the computer only ships, i smelled pretty bad. i finally got the first level pin this past weekend. talk about shock!!! even so, the computer beats me more than i beat it!!LOL so take heart. i feel your pain. keep playing! your game will get better! :)
Alexander 06-22-2005, 03:13 PM stupid Q: what are the WASD keys?Look at your keyboard.
Unless the letters on your's are like mine and slowly fading away with heavy use, you'll notice that the W, A, S, and D keys are in the same positions as the arrow keys.
Some Flash game designers like to use these keys instead of the arrow key because most computer user's hands are already on those keys when typing. As such, the player can relax their hand while using the mouse controls in the game.
It's a common set up on PC Shooters games.
Another common set up I've come across is the arrow keys and the space bar being the action button. I favor this one better, because you can't miss the space bar. :D
dizneydesi 06-23-2005, 08:15 AM thanks for educating me, Alexander! :)
using those keys would be much better for my hands and the need to shift the whole keyboard so that the arrow keys are more direct. :)
PixieGirl 06-24-2005, 09:21 PM I'm so pitiful at Pirates that it's painful. I think I consistently score about 500 points. :( Fireworks is my game though. I usually average about 210,000. Eventually, I'll get that magic pin.
As for Jungle Cruise, I just don't get that game. I think I do good, then I get a score of 12,000.
Mickey_Dude 06-25-2005, 01:40 AM Once i got around 25,000 i do usually get average scores though!
Chedstro 06-25-2005, 01:51 AM I am really bad at pirates. So bad that I don't play anymore since I feel like I am letting the team down. I'm really interested in playing the "computer only" game. How would I go about doing that? Thanks.
Cindy (Coriander in the game)

What do you mean by "computer only" game?
Alexander 06-25-2005, 01:57 AM What do you mean by "computer only" game?Playing by yourself.
Mickey_Dude 06-25-2005, 02:07 AM Playing by yourself.
Alright Thx
MissAmber 06-25-2005, 02:18 AM I really wish Disney would make the VMK games easier! The fireworks game is either so hard that nobody can beat it, or it's just the only people who get the magic pins from it spend every second of their life being a computer nerd and playing games.
Ok. I read in order to get the Fireworks Magic Pin thing you have to get a score of 240,000 on the fireworks game? HOLY MACKERAL!!!

Really That is impossible for me to get that high of a score on that game bacause i stink at it!

My sister brags to me she says "All you gotta do is click you ******* dumb blonde!! Your so stupid!" I don't really care what she says though...I know I'm a dumb blonde but come on, I'm not stupid!

WoW your sister is mean lol
Chedstro 06-25-2005, 02:53 AM What do you mean by "computer only" game?
DizneyDesi said somewhere above that he (or she) practiced using the computer only ships. That's what I was asking about. Sorry if it wasn't clear.
Cindy (Coriander in the game)
dizneydesi 06-25-2005, 06:41 AM yeah, to play against the computer you:
1) click on create a new game
2) select game level
3) click on start game
there are lots of jungle cruise tips on this thread:
http://www.vmkforums.com/forums/showthread.php?t=781&highlight=jungle+cruise+tips
i use all these tips. plus plenty of practice. i know the last thing you want to hear is practice, but it is true. that is the only way to improve. it was tough but i eventually did get the level one pirates doubloon. the second level is frustrating! i am dertermined to get it though as it is way, way easier than fireworks.
about that fireworks magic pin, yeah, to get that and the bronze sparkler pin you must get 240,000 and not win. that is right, not win. alexander and i have pretty much crossed it off our pin list; although i hear alexander is getting close to it! Drat! er, i mean Yay! ;)
missamber, press your ignore button when you see your sister next time! hee hee hee ;) :)
CrazyFool 06-25-2005, 06:44 AM Im pretty darn good at pirates. Only when it's aginst the computer though lol. When real people join into my game, it get ugly fast :(

I got close, but the game crashed. I had a good run and was only 20K away from getting the points I need when I started the second stage of Level 5. Then the game decided it didn't want me to win, so it crashed on me.
BTW, you get the Bronze Sparkler for getting to Frontierland and then getting kicked out the game.
dizneydesi 06-26-2005, 05:41 AM thanks for the correction! need to do a little searching to make sure of things! lol there is so much to keep track! :)
MMSunshine 07-03-2005, 01:15 PM I am just AWFUL at fireworks. I can't even begin to describe how bad I am. When I first started looking at this forum and saw that you needed a 240,000 to get the top prizes, I was scoring in the 15,000 range (and am still pretty close to that most of the time) and I went  . My biggest problem is switching between fireworks, I'm always ending up on the wrong firework picture if I have more than 3 to choose from.
Pirates, I don't usually get the high scores, but pretty much always win now and have managed to get my level 3 invisibility magic. For those that are Pirates challenged, I played only against the computer for my level 1 pin games (partly because I was embarrassed to play with others), and literally spent almost half a day playing over and over for practice (yes, sometimes I have too much time on my hands). For level 2 and 3 I split my time between computer only games and asking people with level 3 pins to play with me in order to get my pins. I'm happy to play with anyone that needs help (although I would add, I am probably not even close to being the greatest player, but do seem to get the job done - that is, when VMK is not giving me the white box "error you must shut down", which happens to me a lot in Pirates).
Since I'm at the pulling my hair out stage for Fireworks, I've now switched over to Jungle Cruise. I've steadily been improving now that I've figured out certain point values for the animals and the fact that you shouldn't take a picture of every one. I still can't steer and take pictures at the same time very well though, so end up losing a lot of gas. I like the teleportation pin idea. I'm hoping that they'll increase the prizes on the Cruise in the coming weeks or months.
dizneydesi 07-07-2005, 05:39 AM talking about fireworks, i can totally understand your frustration. it s not my best game at all. just on monday i scored 71,000, made it to level five because there were players worse than I, then bragged that i had made it that far! LOL i really don't know if i can do any better. i would recommend reading the mini-game tips to see if anything helps.
Pirates I have a lot of fun!! I don't typically score too high- somewhere in hte mid teens- but enjoy playing to get more magic. had a great time playing others in a few rounds. playing against other people makes for a radically different game experience.
jungle cruise is the one i play most. played it a lot for credits, you know wasting gas basically. i do seem to be getting better points wise- last game was in the 43,000 range. although there is still a twenty thousand point difference between me and the top scores. *sigh* why is it when i get better, so do the top scorers? :goofy: :goofy: :goofy:
