View Full Version : Pirates Game
Okay, I mentioned this tonight at the fireworks bronze pin help group and there seemed to be interest.
I'd like to put together a help group for people who aren't very good at the Pirates game so they can get help to get the pins. Personally, I spend most of my time in a Pirates game shooting out of the exact opposite side of my ship that the enemy is on. :o I've won two games at level one, mostly out of luck for getting on teams with good people.
Each group ideally would have at least 2 good people and 2... er... Pirates-Challenged people. If you're interested in participating, either as a good player or... a Pirates-Challenged player, reply and we'll try to get something together. :)
Edit:
First Game!
What: Help the pirates-challenged get pins!
When: 8 pm eastern on June 13th
Where: North-east Pirates game room
Who: Anyone!
Why: Y? Because we like you! M-O-U-S-E! ;)
MisterToad 06-07-2005, 05:17 AM I'll be happy to fill the role of a good player.
DBFan 06-07-2005, 05:20 AM I'm in too. I am not amzing at this game but I have recieved my magic pin. And now I am redoing it with a different email so I am replaying it anyway.
MrGenie 06-07-2005, 05:21 AM I'd be happy to fill the roll of either side (which probably means I should join the good side, eh?). :o
KrazyChik 06-07-2005, 05:26 AM Yes uh i would definatley be the challenged ONE!!! Lol i have not won 1 game of the Pirates game!! :( :( Its very sad i know so i would be VERY interested!!
sonofshine 06-07-2005, 05:41 AM i have got an invisibility pin so i am halfway good lol
http://i7.****************/albums/y251/rikurox/PotCscore.bmp i got the highscore yesterday lol
shiregirl 06-07-2005, 05:48 AM I'm in. I'm average at the game. Sometimes I win, sometimes I lose, but I would probably lean more towards the good than the bad.
MrGenie 06-07-2005, 05:58 AM http://i7.****************/albums/y251/rikurox/PotCscore.bmp i got the highscore yesterday lol
Way to go sonofshine! I scored over 20,000 once (don't ask me how though), but I think it was before the high scores were working correctly because I sure never saw MrGenie's name on the front page. :)
dizneydesi 06-07-2005, 08:52 AM i would sssooooo love to be a part. it is difficult to get a team together at pirates at any time. people don't seem to want to play if they don't know you. :( so i have only got to play a couple of times. and you can see by my highest score, i am not that great. in fact, i failed to score a couple of time. luckily there was a couple of very experienced players who filled in the missing slots to help people get teams. doing the games this way i am sure i would never get any pins. and that cool pirate hat rocks!
Bezoar 06-07-2005, 11:49 AM This is the only mini-game that I'm decent at -- nothing special, but I never lose on a me+computer vs. 2x computer contest.
So, I'd be happy to help team up with people to get their pins.
(And I will continue to moan and groan about at how bad at fireworks I am.)
BadPete 06-07-2005, 01:13 PM i'm just like you bezoar!
i would consider myself pretty good at pirates x2 games are the easiest. the x4 games i normally win but i don't think i'm consistent enough in yet. i would be happy to help anyone get the pin in pirates when i am on just send me a message and/or let me know in game. :)
i have successfully already helped a few people just by giving the following basic hints.
The keys to the game are as follows:
1) if you hit from farther away you get more points
2) the game is really all about angles a) in positioning your ship to hit your opponent b) avoiding getting in the line of fire of your opponents and c) staying out of the line of fire of your fellow players
3) don't go crazy hitting the arrow keys, hit it once as you approaching your target to see which side the green target arrows are coming up on if you are unsure then double click the correct arrow to fire
now on fireworks i got the bronze and the silver but i can't seem to break the 180,000 mark or win a round so i dont think i'll get that gold for awhile :(
PixelProphet 06-09-2005, 05:08 PM can i sign up to be one of the 'uhhhh need help' people lol
AwsomDancer 06-09-2005, 06:19 PM I will be a horrible player! (Pirates-Challenged) Well, I'm not horrible but I wouldn't call myself good ethier!
PixelProphet 06-09-2005, 09:54 PM i have been playing all day, alas my name still has yet to be approved, but as of now i am Guest47648 and i have just reached level two, and i do ok, but people keep going against me to win their 10, and i keep loosing
Alexander 06-09-2005, 10:07 PM I'd help, but I'm kind of iffy in the game. See, I do really good by myself because I learn the computer's patterns when you play by yourself rather fast. In team battle, it's hard to set up your shots because everyone is shootting at the computer which is causing the AI to act differently.
And for some stupid reason, I keep getting killed by friendly fire.
PixelProphet 06-09-2005, 10:21 PM i have yet to even be hurt by friendly fire....
Bezoar 06-10-2005, 05:29 AM i have been playing all day, alas my name still has yet to be approved, but as of now i am Guest47648 and i have just reached level two, and i do ok, but people keep going against me to win their 10, and i keep loosing
That's really irritating
If I were good at pirates (I'm mediocre capable), I wouldn't go up against other people -- I'd join people who were trying to get their wins. If you see me on, ask if I'm free to go a few rounds of pirates, and we can do 2 on 2 vs. the computer.
The past day or so though, I've been having a harder time adjusting to the wind increase. Also, maybe it's my imagination, but I think the computer is leading its shots better.
DBFan 06-10-2005, 05:52 AM The past day or so though, I've been having a harder time adjusting to the wind increase. Also, maybe it's my imagination, but I think the computer is leading its shots better.
I noticed that too. And I will also help anyone who needs my help. I have been on a lot recently.
Alexander 06-10-2005, 06:01 AM Also, maybe it's my imagination, but I think the computer is leading its shots better.
I don't know if I have seen that or not, but I have noticed that the computer ships can turn on a dime but I can't.
PixelProphet 06-10-2005, 07:52 AM i was getting mad, i had 4 games in a row, where someone i let join completly demolished me winning the game, then i lagged out twice, only to come back and someone else beat the heck out of me.
now, i am not bad, if i play myself against the computer, or myself against someone else, i will win i would say 6 times out of 10 [against someone else] and 9 times out of 10 against the computer, even on level two, but its more than apparent that there are level three champs coming down to level one and two just to kick some booty, literally, and that is messed up.
i have about 15 games on level two, but only about 5 wins, if that
as for the ships, the harder it gets, i noticed that they have better shooting cability, faster shots, and better turning radius, i have yet to see level three, but im sure it gets just that way.
MrGenie 06-10-2005, 08:03 AM I got my pirates pins playing almost exclusively with/against the computer in 2-on-2 games. That might sound a little lame, but it was the only real way I could consistently rack up the wins.
[Probably everyone knows this, but I haven't seen it posted...to play a game against the computer, just enter an empty game and immediately click "Start Game" or whatever the button says to play the computer...if you can lead the computer opponents close enough to your computer ally, the ally will activiate and *try* to help you out; alternatively, you may just decide it's best to keep them deactivated and out of harm's way, and take care of business on your own!]
Since I got my pins, I've played some more games against human opponents which is probably more fun but also streakier. All it takes is one or two well-intentioned but misguided "kamikazes" on your team to send you to a watery grave (although there is something quite satisfying about being the last remaining member on your team against four other ships, and then pulling out the underdog victory!).
PixelProphet 06-10-2005, 08:11 AM its not lame, its how you play the game. i found one guy Ulit was his name, completly random, but as the second player we kicked serious butt, like his moves and mine were honestly like maverick and goose, really cool guy, with his help [and mine i guess since he had like 9 losses and a win] we got the first 10 wins on the first level, look out for him, he is a great person to play with.
What is everyone else's names so i can keep an eye out for you guys.
I'm going to schedule the first meeting of the super-secret ultra-deluxe officially unofficial "Help the Pirates-Challenged Get Pins!" society tomorrow (June 13th) starting at 8 pm eastern in the north-east Pirate's game room and ending when everyone has the pins they want, or when Mickey comes and drags us out of his park. :D (Hey, the mouse needs his beauty rest.)
What do you need to do to participate? Show up to the North-east room of the Pirates game any time between 8 pm eastern and park close! And be good at Pirates! Or stink at it! Or be mediocre at it!
So, to recap:
What: Help the pirates-challenged get pins!
When: 8 pm eastern on June 13th
Where: North-east Pirates game room
Who: Anyone!
Why: Y? Because we like you! M-O-U-S-E! ;)
I'll see you there!
Oh yeah, MisterToad and Shiregirl have both offered to help out, so you can look for them in addition to me. Thanks you two! :D

That's an excellent idea. A little while ago, I was trying to rack up a set of quick wins. At first, I tried to let people join me, but people seemed set on joining the other side. Not worth the hassle so, I just played me and computer vs. 2 computers and racked up my first 8 wins in 8 games on lvl 1.
I'd much rather team up with someone "pirates challenged" and help them along the way.
Tomorrow 8pm I'll be on call in the hospital, but if things are REALLY quiet, maybe I'll be able to sneak off for a game or two to help you guys out.
Regards,

LOL...Let me guess, you guys were referring to the two computer boats as Iceman and Slider? :) I just hope your new buddy didn't try to eject too early like in the movie (assuming, of course, that you were Maverick).
Lady, sounds like a fun Pirates event; I'm not sure if I will be running the Comedy Club tomorrow night or not. If I am free, I will definitely stop by. Good luck!
DBFan 06-13-2005, 06:59 AM I wish I could help but I have plans tomorrow night.
GBShorts 06-13-2005, 02:23 PM Beware folks, sometimes there are Cast Members captaining those computer ships! It's crazy! You can always tell when they move right away instead of taking the defensive move right where they sit.
At least that's what it looks like to me.
To get my pins, I spent about 5 hours there with three other friends and we all four went against four pirates. It was a great time!

I doubt that's what that is. I had that happen a few times, and I think that's the computer trying to "learn" from you if you do the same moves over and over again. Most of the time they don't.
I'm a new member to this site. I've been reading the posts for a couple of days but just joined now.
I was sooo excited to see Lady's idea for a help group.
I am so challenged I didn't realize that there was more than one level. The first and only time I played...I started with LEVEL2 and played all by myself with the computer boats.
I shot out the wrong side of the boat and was sunk within seconds of the game starting. So sad!!!! (I'm better at Fireworks but I seem to be stuck at 5th place)
Any help would be appreciated!!! I'd love to join you guys tonight...if I remember to log in. My VMK login is the same as this one.
By the way, going to WDW in Sept (3-10) and plan on doing quests so if any of them are still out and not 'answered' I'd be happy to come home and post the codes!!!
Can I be one of the helpers? Here's my resume:

http://img143.echo.cx/img143/9606/highscorechart2ni.jpg
So am I in? ;)
shiregirl 06-13-2005, 09:04 PM Wow! Whar, I didn't notice! Congratulations. You are definately in! lol :)
shiregirl 06-14-2005, 02:23 AM P.S. Many ppl are like What? when I tell them about the seammonster in level two. So, if you haven't seen it, here it is:
http://img292.echo.cx/img292/772/seammonster5bn.png
By the way, Lady's event is going well, if you want to, we're still there, please come join us! :) (And don't forget to wish her a happy Life Day!)
Oh man, I'd totally want to be there. I'm stuck here studying for my Math Exam tommorow, but I'd love to come next session!
I think the event went quite well, we helped a number of people get pins. I developed a strategy that worked quite well for me. I like to call it the "cluck, click and hope" strategy. Cluck for chicken, since I stay as far away as possible, then click and hope in that I just click and hope that the cannons are aimed generally in the direction of an enemy ship. :D
I am now on level 3, so I'm hoping I'll be able to get the invisibility pin on the next event. I'll be more than happy to take the role of helper to help others get level 1 pins. I still mess up now and then, so don't pick me if you want someone reliable. ;)
I'm sure we'll hold another meeting of the super-secret ultra-deluxe "Help the Pirates-Challenged Get Pins" society. I'm going to be out of town until next Tuesday, though. So if someone wants to hold one this week, you all have fun! I'll miss you all!
Bezoar 06-15-2005, 12:40 AM I just happened to be wandering through the Pirates lobby, when I saw that LeanaSpin had just won her invisibility pin!
So if you see her, congratulate her!
shiregirl 06-15-2005, 12:52 AM Yeah! Good job LeanaSpin. lol! Funny thing is, she and Lady both became really excellent players last night (and wdwr was on her way there). This game just takes practice.
Practice and adaptability. Personally, I've found that I'm way more advanced as I can now attept to make a prediction on what the computers do based on my actions. Of course, banzai-ing other players works just as well! :)
PS: Congrats Leanaspin!
bopper 06-15-2005, 04:46 PM I have gotten my invisibility pin and found that the best thing is to play with an even amount of players...either 2 or 4. If you play with only 3, your team gets that extra pirate ship that is very lame unless one of the other pirate ships comes over near it.
If you play with only 2 people the game goes faster so you can plow through the 10 games per level faster.
Don't forget on the 3rd level that if you click on the skeleton next to wear you type you can be come invisible once per round.
BadPete 06-15-2005, 04:58 PM Don't forget on the 3rd level that if you click on the skeleton next to wear you type you can be come invisible once per round.
actually you can use it more than once per round you just need to let it recharge for a certain amount of time (maybe 30 seconds???)
On a side note, last night when i played i was having a difficult time having my shots register as hits against pirate ships, i know i was hitting them but it was not counting (and they were not ghosted or under the moonlight). has anyone else had this problem? it wasn't all the time just sporadically, but it obviously made the game much more difficulty to play.

You could be shooting at your own ships. I noticed last night they finally got rid of the Friendly Fire feature that caused me to get killed by my own team mates. At least in my account.
BadPete 06-15-2005, 05:34 PM no that wasn't it, i was playing a solo game against the computer on the multiple occurances. and i woudl be ok in one round but not the other so i still managed to win the games. I was playing levels two and three when it happened.
Well, I see this problem all the time, but hey! My strategy is to hit them until they sink. Then hit them some more. :D
BadPete 06-16-2005, 02:10 PM thanks Whar for confirming it wasn't just me :)
PixelProphet 06-16-2005, 07:11 PM Yeah, i think its just a rare glitch, like when you exit the pirates game and you heear the rappid clicking, then you get Disconnected [happened to me maybe 3x now]
