Several people have asked how to take screenshots of VMK and/or display their screenshots on the forum. Through trial and error, I've managed to come up with a process that works for me, and I hope it works for you. If it doesn't, my apologies in advance but I'm probably not going to be able to help you since this is basically all I know.

Here's a step-by-step procedure I use for taking VMK screenshots on a PC (sorry Mac users...my G3 Powerbook crashed a few years ago and I switched back to the dark side):

1) With the VMK window selected, press ALT + PRINT SCRN at the same time (PRINT SCRN is next to the F12 function key). This takes a screenshot of the active window (VMK!) rather than the entire computer screen (saves some cropping later on, that's all).

2) Open up a photo-editing program (you can use Paint if you have to, but I'd recommend something else if you have it). Start a new image, and paste your screenshot into the new image. TIP: before pasting an image into Paint, shrink the blank image to a small box. That way, when you paste in the image, it will ask if you want to resize the image (click "Yes") and then your Paint image will be the same size as your screenshot.

3) Crop the screenshot (to select a portion of the image) however you want. If you don't have a cropping tool, use the rectangle select tool to select the portion you want to crop, and then Copy/Paste the selection into a new image.

If you want to post your screenshot on the forum, read on...

4) Save the picture in one of the formats recognized by the VMK Forum: bmp, doc, gif, jpe, jpeg, jpg, pdf, png, psd, txt, & zip (yes, I realize not all of these are image formats, but then again I'm not completely sure which ones are so I'll just leave them all in for completeness). I recommend JPG since this format usually produces better colors and smaller file size than the other options.

5) Upload that picture to somewhere on the Internet, or upload it directly to the VMK forum (you get limited storage of 1 MB I think, with a maxmium file size of around 130 KB per attachment which may require some image size/quality reduction). To upload directly to the forum, start a new thread or reply to an existing thread, and then add the photo as an attachment and click "Upload". The photo will show up in your post after you submit the message. You can add up to five photos per message. If you upload your image elsewhere, then enclose the path to the image in IMG tags like this:

First, go read the first post again. Read it carefully and relax. If Ctrl-Alt-PrintScreen doesn't work, try just Alt-PrintScreen or some other combinations.

Nothing will pop up. There will be no notice that anything has happened. Just open up paint and paste from your clipboard.

Alt + PrintScreen = Open or selected window.

Then I open paint or imaging to make it smaller and A MUST...
Save as JPG file to make smaller file size.

to get rid of the white back round click in the gray....than look at the white, there should be little squares...u want to take the bottom right one and click and hold and move it closer to the picture so...ull see the white go away. i hope i was clear enough

Mr.Genie, I need help. When I save the picture on my computer, when I go to open it, where does it go? Does it go to "My pictures" or something else? HELP! But, I am a PC user. I have alot of photos to share, but I don't know where they are!!After you take a screenshot, you need to post it into an image program. From there, you can save it anywhere you like on your computer, just like you would with any other file. Choose "Save" or "Save As" from the File menu, and then make a note of where you are saving it. Personally I like to make a new folder on the Desktop if I am taking a series of screenshots because it is easy to find the Desktop, and then I save all of them to that folder.

Thank you! Now, all I need to do, is make it smaller and still clear! LOL, I think it will take me a while to figure that out! I can't make it any bigger than this. If there is a way to fix this, tell me please

The problem is you're trying to link to files on your computer. The reason your Harry Potter image worked is because you linked to an image that has been uploaded to the Internet where anyone can view it (unlike the files on your computer).

You can upload your images to free sites like Photobucket or ImageShack, and then link to them on the forum. Or, you can attach an image to your post using the "Manage Attachments" button.

apple+shift+4on the top numpad and then click and drag square over the area of screenshot you want to take. hope this works for you, but my mac may be special :)

Several people have asked how to take screenshots of VMK and/or display their screenshots on the forum. Through trial and error, I've managed to come up with a process that works for me, and I hope it works for you. If it doesn't, my apologies in advance but I'm probably not going to be able to help you since this is basically all I know.

Here's a step-by-step procedure I use for taking VMK screenshots on a PC (sorry Mac users...my G3 Powerbook crashed a few years ago and I switched back to the dark side):

1) With the VMK window selected, press ALT + PRINT SCRN at the same time (PRINT SCRN is next to the F12 function key). This takes a screenshot of the active window (VMK!) rather than the entire computer screen (saves some cropping later on, that's all).

2) Open up a photo-editing program (you can use Paint if you have to, but I'd recommend something else if you have it). Start a new image, and paste your screenshot into the new image. TIP: before pasting an image into Paint, shrink the blank image to a small box. That way, when you paste in the image, it will ask if you want to resize the image (click "Yes") and then your Paint image will be the same size as your screenshot.

3) Crop the screenshot (to select a portion of the image) however you want. If you don't have a cropping tool, use the rectangle select tool to select the portion you want to crop, and then Copy/Paste the selection into a new image.

If you want to post your screenshot on the forum, read on...

4) Save the picture in one of the formats recognized by the VMK Forum: bmp, doc, gif, jpe, jpeg, jpg, pdf, png, psd, txt, & zip (yes, I realize not all of these are image formats, but then again I'm not completely sure which ones are so I'll just leave them all in for completeness). I recommend JPG since this format usually produces better colors and smaller file size than the other options.

5) Upload that picture to somewhere on the Internet, or upload it directly to the VMK forum (you get limited storage of 1 MB I think, with a maxmium file size of around 130 KB per attachment which may require some image size/quality reduction). To upload directly to the forum, start a new thread or reply to an existing thread, and then add the photo as an attachment and click "Upload". The photo will show up in your post after you submit the message. You can add up to five photos per message. If you upload your image elsewhere, then enclose the path to the image in IMG tags like this:

what's good is that we now have VMK Pal, which facilitates the taking screenshots guide. Download VMK Pal from the forums, then use it to take pictures and shots of VMK. :)

You may go to vmkpal.com and download it, or download straight from the forums, although I forget WHERE in the forums. It allows you to manage codes, use quick talk, log in faster, and take pics.

You don't need to pay, and it depends on what type of internet connection you have to tell how long it will take. It's worth the wait though. :)

Download VMK Pal system, not zip file. It is best to dowload directly.
