I know many of you that have been here since before December of last year remember the reputation system. But the question remains, do you miss it?

I have mixed feelings-

I miss it because...
It showed who was trusted on the forums and who is just earning their ears. It was also a nice way to reward people for doing something good.

I don't miss it because..
People (such as myself a few times) have misused the system. Also, it caused a stir among new forum members aksing "what is rep?".

What are your feelings about the rep system? Did you like it, or not?

Don't like it at all.
It was really abused. I honestly think at this point most people know who to trust and maybe who not to.

For the new people, they just need to make there way up till they have people trust them.

I feel similar to your feelings, schmoofy.

I really liked it, because it showed how good their post is, or if they had to work on something.

I didn't like it because of the "omg!!!!11 I got bad rep!!!11 fix it!!" threads. I didn't like also people overusing the rep system, to hurt people's feelings.

i liked getting good comments.. then there were the bad ones... maybe a rep system where you could give good, and leave a comment, and bad with comment choices (double post, unclear, etc)

ot: minay, in your profile pic, I LOVE THAT CAR!

I missed it...I really loved to hear people's views on what I said. It made me feel good to get some rep, to know that people were listening to me.

That and I loved my newly gained 3 mickeys ^^;; I just got them before they closed the system :P

I liked good comments, but also liked bad comments, so I knew what I had to work on.

Haha, thanks. I'm saving up for one of those ;).

Maybe I should have made a poll with this as to if you want the rep system back or not, I think it would be good to have it back.

No one ever gave me any rep.

I felt unknown by the fan site.

I usually gave rep to those who posted wonderful things.

Maybe there should be a system if we get the rep system back that you could only say something nice about the post. So that way it wont hurt peoples feelings.

I think that there should be a rep checking system. Whenever you send rep, it could go through some checking system and then some MODS would see if it is acceptable or not. Sure it could take a little to get the rep, but then that way it would be better :)

good idea.. but honestly, mod's dont need another thing to tend to... they have better things to do, like clean up spam and delete bad things on the forum.

I liked having reputation points. I didn't like the fact that people were abusing it and using it as a form of revenge. I think it should be brought back, but closely moderated to keep away the abuse.

Well, time to add my mixed feelings to the lot.

Of course, I loved being praised about making a nice, informative post that took me a half second to write. I also sort of liked the constructive critisism when someone gave me bad rep for a reason. If someone left me some bad rep just because they hate me or something like that, so what? It's just a number (Although it's always fun to see that number grow really big), and it's only themselves that they're making look stupid.

But... then again, it also seems like those same people are using it as a tool to be... well... jerks. Not usually something encouraged, eh? So... I don't know... I'd love to have it back... but... it does come with concequences.

If it has the potential to be abused, then I feel that it shouldn't be there. Sure, if a person decided to spam, then they always can be banned. For the reputation system, it would be harder to track someone down or in the case a whole bunch of people.

Many people have abused it before because they didn't agree what another person has said or just felt like giving them a bad reputation. No one should be felt like they aren't worth it because of what someone has put in their reputation. Everyone should get constructive criticism.

If for some certain event arises that brings back the reputation system back, then there should be some preset options available. There shouldn't be any field where you can type whatever criticism you want.

Moderators and administrators do not get paid to run this site.

Moderators and administrators have their hands full keeping the bad people out, removing bad people, punishing people, helping people, putting threads and posts in the right spot and monitoring chat.

The rep system allows people to insult and hurt people as well as takes up the time of staff to police violations. If I were to say a name would people yell "Thief, cad, bounder, weirdo, lock the doors and shutter the windows" or would they be neutral or have good things to say.

Let us see with a little test.
MiniParis
did you hear all them nice things?

Hunter
Did you hear all them people locking the doors?

We do not need rep to show that there are how great people are like Mini, Karo, Camera, Game, Captain and JenTink.

CaptainBrain you are highly regarded as far as I have heard and I never heard a bad word about you. As you see CaptainBrain rep is wrong again and has overlooked a really nice person.

actually the only people I actually agree with in this thread are sweephunter and schmoofy. Yes the rep was good to show good posts and even maybe for giving a good point or takinjg control of a flaming thread. But yea it did get to a point where many kind and loyal players were either be praised by rep or they were being yelled and flamed at through rep for being so popular as some would say.

I really liked the rep system. When I did get abused, it was just from people who had rep that did not count, or very low rep and it did not affect the "rep score" either way, I just ignored nonsence rep.

Another flaw in the rep system is the a person who had no rep or negative rep did not count where as popular and loved players could give triple the rep points to someone. Why should a new person not be able to say equally what a well loved player says?

Also another point i missed is the privacy of rep. I got good rep today from seeing people people post that they agree with me or said i was a good person. I got a PM with a returned code for Yeti Vision that included a remark saying i was good. It counts more when people say in the open forums that they agree or disagree with someone. It means so much when people say good things about you.

If you do not like the way i spell, punctuate, capitilize, talk about certain things, or that I do not like broccoli then send me a PM that gives good proper advice. If you do not want to send a PM then contact a moderator or administrator and explain what the problem is and that could the moderator please pass on the advice. Part of their job is mediatior and helping people to properly post in forums and in chat.

-MinayI know, there was a dark side to it. People would rant if the got a bad rep. Then people would give bad rep for no reason at all.

So, I don't really care if it comes back there was a good side and a dark one but the evil was too much so they took it away for the best. ;)

I was thinking along the same lines as dudedude. A rep system that only allows good rep. This would negate the need for monitoring, yet give praise and trust to those who deserve it. Of course, this system could also be abused by having your friends post positive feedback. However, if a rep system were to be reinstated, I think this would be the best solution. It would prevent hurt feelings, personal attacks, and general abuse of the system. :mickey2:
