View Full Version : Being tricked by inferno magic

I don't know if there is a thread about this, so moderators if there is, please move it. Lately a lot of people are being tricked into trading for inferno and then not receiving it. They are being taken for everything they have practically. It has happened to a couple of my friends within the last two days and the people who are doing this is really low in my opinion. When you get caught (and I use the word "when" and not "if") you will be banned from vmk and probably forever. Is it worth it? Let me give some trading tips for those contemplating trading for inferno:

1) Know the person with whom you are trading
2) If not, please take a good friend with you for back up
3) Make sure the person has the inferno. Let them show it
4) There is no such thing as "free" inferno. These rooms are just a trick.
5) Do not trade everything first (that is why your friend is in there. A better
idea would be to get a community leader with you).
6) let them trade the inferno to the community leader and then you trade
for the item and the community leader trades it back to you when the
trade is over. A community leader has a lot more to lose than a normal
player.
7) ALWAYS get the name of the player with whom you are trading with. I
keep a log of all my trades so when you go to report someone, you have
a name, date and time.
8) If you do get tricked, please report it to VMK via the contact us link and
go into detail what happened. That is why you should always keep a log
handy of all your trades.

Well hope this has been useful and good luck in trading and remember "if it sounds too good to be true, it probably is"

Well, I actually liked being scammed :). Somebody stole my invisibility saying they would give inferno and it was a scam. About 4 months later.. BOOM! I look in my inventory and inferno was there :). So sometimes it can come out to be a good outcome. Anyways, nice tips. You are saving about at least 8 people from being scammed. Maybe more.

This is brilliant, MamaJo. Especially the part about getting a Community Leader to act as the "trade point": I hadn't even thought of that!

Great tips :) Trade someone you trust, that's most important. I traded all of my infernos to my friends...and we're still friends to this day :) eheheh.

Thanks everyone for replying to this thread. I'm trying to make VMK safe for all people involved. Inferno seems to be like the #1 thing people are trading a lot of stuff for. There are no codes for it. Nor can you combine magic pins to obtain it (I've heard this scam). The only way to obtain inferno is by either trading with someone reputable, winning it in some of the Host's games (look on the home page calendar to see which games) or by a very generous person giving it to you. Please tell all your friends to be on the lookout and again, try to get their names, contact VMK immediately and then follow up with the contact. Every day if you have to. Like Darkmatt said, eventually you might come out on top. VMK does have a record of all your transactions and can go through them and locate the culprit. Believe, me if they are caught they will be banned and if they create another account and do the same thing, they will be banned. Eventually, the computer itself can be disallowed from anyone entering VMK web site. I've seen this happen.

again, thanks everyone. I am getting totally mad at this type of behavior in VMK. If people are doing this on a game, what are they like in the real world? You are what you play.

OK, just now another player tried to trick a community leader into trading them bat magic or suit for a code for lots of money. This is another trick so people please be aware of this.

This happened to me once, though I didn't accept.
They accutally SHOWED the inferno. Then he asked for teleportation. I was like sure. He added a ton of river parts then taking away the inferno. I knew it had to be a scam because no one would trade inferno for just teleportation

Sadly, I was one of the people tricked, I wrote a full review on VM Kingdom of the story, and I will quote it here.

You heard me right, I have been scammed of everything rare I own. Heres the low down:

I was in my friend tiggerbounces room, and a player entered the room wearing an inferno magic pin. I asked if it was for trade, and she said yes. I told her to follow me to my room, and so we could make a deal. So we go in, and she says she will trade only if i add teleportation, fireworks, and snowman magic. I agree to that, because I have been looking for inferno since August, and i felt this was my only chance. So we go in trade, and it ends up that 17 items had been offered, so we had to do another trade. She said if i was going to trade, I would give the stuff, and then she would give inferno in another trade. I agreed to that, which I shouldn't of done, and then we traded. Then i went to press trade with her again, and before I knew it she was gone. I reported her to VMK, and they gave me the normal message of use the contact link on the main site. I lost everything rare that I own, ranging from a christmas tree to a beta green tiki wall divider.

Part 2:

I changed the title of the room to, where I once had rare stuff. All my friends came in to cheer me up, and boy did they. The room got on the top guest room list and zev walked in. He viewed all my trades, he even said i had too many trades. First he thought Jollyizma was the person who scammed me, and i screamed NO!!! Then he found the person, and he said that she was banned. Then he said Green will be here to finish the deal. Before i know it, HOST_Green walked in the room, and gave me inferno. This just shows you that there is nice people in VMK, staff and friends do care. Thanks for everything everyone!

I learned a lot from this experience, and I dont plan to trade for bulk anytime soon.

ok i have a word of advice as well. If you are wanting to trade for inferno and you know that the person you are trading with has it, but you have a lot of stuff and not all will fit in a window this is what i suggest to do. either talk to the person and say that you you will fill up the window with the most rarest stuff first and they put the inferno in that window as well then after that trade is over continue to trade the rest of the stuff to that person. If they say no and sya trade them everything first and then they will give you the inferno don't accpet. That is something i would do and as matter of fact i did when i trade for a cyan rocket and it worked out very well.

Once a person said they were trading inferno. When I was trading with them they said good offer and added a buzz cup pin and alice and wonderland pin. Then they told me to combine it and it will make inferno. I said I'll get back to them ( I had both pins already) I tried to combine does not work! Does not even combine! I tested it b4 so I had back up! Staff said in message I did good. Person was on my friend list have not seen them again!

Great tips, MamaJo. As always, a good community leader is in hand. :)

02-27-2006, 11:05 PM
These are excellent guidelines :) Another suggestion is to work out a good trade agreement on a place like the forums, and figure out how you're trading (especially if codes are involved!)

I got a PM from someone who said that they would trade me the Stitch Hat and other items for Inferno, but insisted that they would send me the codes after trading the inferno to "protect their cargo." After repeatedly asking why they couldn't just trade the items in-game with no repsonse, I ignored them.

Remember to be careful on BOTH sides of the trade, and work out an agreement on trading order!

that is like so cool how u know all of this, its like.. nvm lol but still ill follow it if i'm going to look for inferno lol or anyother rare trade

I still say if you are going into a trade with more than a couple trade windows, take someone reputable with you to act as a go between. I hate to think VMK has come to this but it seems this is the only safe way to trade a lot of stuff. Using the forums for trading codes and such is a good idea also. Again, just be very careful who and what you are trading and I repeat again, "if it sounds too good to be true, it probably is."

Just something to add:

1) I don't think they should trade to the community leaders. Even if they have a high rank such as CL in vmk, you still might not be able to trust them, so try to trade in front of many people.

2) Another thing is that some ppl have a room full of stuff they are trading for inferno, but only 15 places in the trading window. This shoud be changed. If you are going to trade limit it to 15 items. This way, it makes it harder for them to trick you. What some inferno traders do, is that they say more, when there is only 15 spaces, then they say trade and make another trade afterwards, but they do not put up inferno in the first trade, which makes it easier for them to steal your objects.

3) Remember, if you trade your stuff in a first trade, in which you give 15 items, yet they don't give anything the first trade but they say they will on the next trade, once you hit trade, you can never get those items back. You can beg, report, cry, steal from others, but you will NEVER get those items back, bc a trade IS a trade, even vmk staff has said it. Any inferno wanters out there, I recommend getting just 15 items that are of good value no more than 15, bc 15 is limit.

4) Remember, it is better to stay at 15 items. Some people can lie about ever having inferno. It makes it better if you keep all trades at or under 15.

5) Be safe, and have a great day. :CastMem:

Actually, this is not a very good idea. Look at it from the point of view of the person who is trading their inferno. They will think YOU might scam them of their inferno, if you say that you are trading 15 of rarest first, but they have to put in inferno in their first trade. The BEST idea is to limit EVERYONES trades to 15, no more. It helps vmk with the "scam" reports. Remember, once you hit trade, you can NEVER get your stuff back, unless they decide to trade back, which rarely happens.

MamaJo
02-28-2006, 03:59 PM
Well, that might be a good thing to limit the trade items to 15, but realistically do you really think 15 items would be worth the inferno if you think about it. Saying that all 15 items were beta, that person probably already has inferno so why are they trading in the first place. My suggestion of having a friend with you or a community leader there will deter some would-be scammer from trying this trick. I am saying this not for the people who are trading for the inferno, but also for the person trading the inferno. Yes, they can be scammed also so all rules apply to them as well. I still think taking someone along to act as go-between is a better idea for large trades.

Even if you do have friends, you never know what they are thinking. They might seem like the best friend you ever had, but they might be thinking all they want is your stuff. Usually, it is people who have two or more infernos that are willing to trade it. The best thing to do is to limit ALL trades to 15 items, or we can send in something through the contact us to expand the trade limit. If we all work together sending request to expand trades in a good way, we might be able to trade even more stuff, rather than argue about what trades are good, and what trades are not. So, are you with me?

Personally I think 15 items is enough. Too many more an it makes it that much easier for those scammers to add a bunch of junk to a trade and take out the valuable item. There is really nothing out there worth more the 15 really nice items.
