As most of you know, the Expedition Everest Passholder Weekend started today, and I was lucky enough to attend. (I get to go again tomorrow too!). This was one of the most creative roller coasters I have ever been on. That, and Rock 'n' Roller Coaster are two of the most brilliantly themed coasters I've ever ridden.
In this report, I'll cover what it's like from when you first sit down inside the train, and from what it's like when you get off. You board your expedition train in an old tea railway station that's been abandoned for a very long time. You will see posters and posters and posters of notices that read things like "Yeti Beware" on them. I was a little nervous at first, but when you train arrives, a blast of steam ejects from the engine. With no way to get back, I hopped into the car and lowered the lap restraint. A few moments later, we were off into the Himalayan wilderness. Your train exits the station and makes a gentle turn to the right and heads up a short chain lift hill. From then on, you go for a little outdoor test drive of gently banked turns and small dips and drops. Then, you head up the main chain lift hill into the Forbidden Mountain.
Your train passes through a large stony structure that reveals a huge mural of the Yeti, and you hear a faint roar from somewhere at the summit. You can see everything on your way up, including Space Mountain at the Magic Kingdom, and The Twilight Zone Tower of Terror at the Disney/MGM Studios. When you finally reach the end of the lift, your train dips into a small, icy cavern, and then you head into a dark and damp cave. You are officially inside Mount Everest. But suddenly, you see a light at the end of cave, and when you get outside, much to your dismay, the track is completely mutilated. Then, a loud, booming roar emits from back inside the mountain, and without warning, your train heads forward and it looks as though you are going to fall of the face of the mountain! But instead, your car suddenly falls backwards into the mountain, as you plunge down a very large backwards drop, only to fly through two helixes and soar up a large hill. This causes MASSIVE air time. You then finally start leveling out inside the blackness. You will hear another roar, and you see a huge shadow dart across the cavern walls. You train then heads backwards once more down a shallow cliff into a big straightway area. Your attention then shifts to the cave wall, when the huge shadow of the Yeti appears, and rips up the track in front of you. Your car then shakes madly, only to zoom forward and plunge down the 80ft. drop into the trees. Next, your train makes a sharply banked turn and then rises steeply, only to re-enter the mountain once more.
Once inside again, your car races through steep turns and large drops. As you go over a large hill and descend down yet another drop, your car flies out of the mountain and heads out for another outdoor getaway. Now it's a race for survival, as the Yeti pursues you closer and closer as the ride progresses. You then enter the mountain for a final time, as the track under you begins to collapse, and you plummet down another drop. Now it is personal. Your train then races towards the nearest exit, only to meet up with Yeti himself. Strobe lights flash the ceiling as the Yeti swings his giant arm at you, narrowly missing you by inches and you drop down the last and final drop.
Your excursion into the mountain is unfortunately over, as your train pulls back into the station and you climb out of the car to continue your wild adventure at Disney's Animal Kingdom.
This roller coaster is a fantastically fun ride, but it is not a ride for the faint of heart. It is fast, long, but it is, however, a truly exhilarhating experience.
Hope you enjoyed this report,
