View Full Version : Gold Teleports.....NOT!
oldgrumpy 01-24-2006, 01:06 AM Went to Disney's California Adventure today to be there for the "official openning".
There was an hour long media/invited guest only event.
Mike, Sulley, celebrities and the press.
Looked pretty official to me.
Well, checking to comfirm that this was indeed the openning, a ride CM informed me that it actually wasn't the openning.:@@:
He went into a 10 minute CYA tap dance that made absolutely no sense.
Wandered over to the VMK booth at the real park.
First person I discussed it with said that they were going to "randomly hand out cards to random guests exiting the ride", starting today (Monday).
WHAT?!
The second 2 CMs said that cards will be passed out to everyone.
They also agreed that they were lead to believe that the "official" word is that they will start passing out cards some point during "the week of the 23rd".
The saga continues.............
TikiRoom 01-24-2006, 01:08 AM Only random!??! NOOOO. They need to give the to everyone
But, how was the ride? I am going this FEB.
SleepyPiglet 01-24-2006, 01:08 AM Wow -.- Sorry to hear that you didn't get the gold doors. It's would be a challenge to find a CM who would actually give you the card!
aengus 01-24-2006, 01:09 AM thanks for the update, to bad you couldnt get some gold doors.
oldgrumpy 01-24-2006, 01:13 AM The ride is a Disney "dark ride", along the order of Mr. Toad or Alice in Wonderland.
There is more technical/mechanical stuff, but it's that type of ride.
Definitely not a thrill ride.
The track and cars are basically converted from Super Star Limo, the ride that previously occupied the building.
All in all, it has a nice look and is a whole lot better than what it replaced.
Although I will be moving soon, I live quite near Disneyland and can visit often. At this time, it's not a problem returning. My only real problem is with their lack of knowlege/information.
daykota 01-24-2006, 01:18 AM i never even heard of the superstar lime ride and i was wondering what it was when i saw it on a map of DCA
manunderwater 01-24-2006, 01:21 AM i've already been on that ride 7 times i wish they give them out to everyone and they did it earlier
aengus 01-24-2006, 01:21 AM at WDW i notice a real lack of knowledge about vmk in the spots you would hope they should have some too. glad making another trip back wont be a big deal for you. score some gold doors for your vmk buds to bid on ;)
cptnruthless 01-24-2006, 01:32 AM not all of the cast members know what vmk is unless they were part of the testing, or actually play the game (or work at inno).
therefore, it doesnt suprise me that they wouldnt know how the cards would be dispersed. my guess is that they havent gotten the hang of things over at monsters - but havent told the inno kids that they arent handing them out yet.
oldgrumpy 01-24-2006, 01:38 AM I am hoping that they just pass out the cards.
As an annual passholder, my prizes are logged, and I can only "win" every 90 days.
cptnruthless 01-24-2006, 01:59 AM hmm, i did not know they were going to scan them, i assumed they would make it like the magic mirrors, penny presses, and gold ears. interesting.
aengus 01-24-2006, 01:59 AM I bet they do it like the wanted poster/magic mirror/ penny press. I mean they cant be scanning your tickets in line for them it will hold to many people up. of course they can LOL but i dont think they will. who knows tho right. I guess you will next time you go and you can let us know.
manunderwater 01-24-2006, 02:10 AM your right.. you might have to ask for the cards or they might actually scan your card
smilezlie 01-24-2006, 02:40 AM today was not the opening of the ride. yesterday and today was a special media and celebrity preview of the ride. i believe its schedualed to open tomorrow or the next day. so of course they didnt have the cards yet..
i highly doubt that they will scan your ticket. monsters inc is a ride that has a high flow of people, they would not have time to scan everyones ticket.
the only way they could possibly monitor how many you get is to give you a piece of paper and you go to the vmk booth in disneyland and vmk scans that and gives you the card.
that would not work either, unless they opened a vmk booth in dca (they didnt) because some people may have a 1 day single park pass.
that leaves the only option, which is giving out cards, similar to the penny presses/mirrors/gold ears when you exit the ride.
i do however believe they will either just hand them out to families with kids in the correct agegroup, OR, most likely JUST to people who ASK for them.
thats what they do at the stores. depending on the cast member (some just throw it in the bag) you need to ask for the card when making the purchase. they dont want to give it to people that wont use it and will throw it away.
if they handed them out to every person who went on the ride they would need thousands of codes a day and would most likely run out very fast.
so i say if you are not offered one to just ask the cast member at the exit. they may be able to track one down for you. also ask the cast member at the enterance and ask what they know about the cards and who would have them and where to get them. that way you dont have to wait in line.

For three weeks running, both the staff at VMK, Innoventions, and the staff at MTA, Monsters, have been saying that Monday, January 23 is the "Official Openning Day".
This is not what I think. This is what I have been told for three weeks, by dozens of people working both attractions.
Yesterday, we were told by everyone there that it was the openning.
Have you ever won some of the VMK games that award you a certificate, such as invisibility or the explorer tent?
These certificates are in .pdf format and are redeemable only at Disney theme parks.
If you what to redeem them, you will need pay pay admission to the park.
With the mirrors, special pins, and presses, there was a little sign explaining the "VMK trading card with purchase" promotions.
I am also hoping this is the manner for distribution.
But, they may also hand out vouchers, similar to the .pdf certificates to be redeemed at the original park.
Yes, this would be a bit rude.
But, in the case of the invisibility or the tent, it's a ploy they've used before.
Anyway, for those who wonder what the ride is like:

Butterfly Effect 01-24-2006, 07:36 PM Well that cerainly is a major bummer!
"randomly hand out cards to random guests exiting the ride", starting today (Monday). Talk about a quest lol.
Saga continues, exactly, you certainly have that right. You could even call it Of epic proportion.
Thanks for the info/update. Hope your luck turns for the better.
bethmn 01-26-2006, 06:08 PM We are at DL now and went to DCA Monday to check out the ride.
It was OK
But no cards and nobody seemed to know what we were talking about.
went to vmk central at DLP
One said"maybe later this month"
One said"They don't tell us anything"
So going back today and will see what the answer is.
NaviMap 01-26-2006, 07:20 PM I think it would be best to check out this thread here concerning the gold door teleporters:

bethmn 01-26-2006, 11:09 PM Just back from DCA.
the cards are beining given out at the beginning of the ride!
No scanning of anything.
We rode twice, just to enjoy it and got cards both times.
They are 'punch outs' on a card about the sisze of a folded park map.
A lot of folks just looked at them with a"what's this?" look...
and others were pretty excited!
KRAZYboutDISNEY 01-26-2006, 11:16 PM oh sorry about the gold doors teleporters

ClubDisCM 01-27-2006, 07:22 AM Why don't people actually read the whole thread before commenting? If they actually had they would have seen bethmn's post stating that the doors ARE out and how they are being distributed. Then maybe they wouldn't look so silly when they post.
LittleBlueAriel 01-28-2006, 02:02 PM Well I...OK, truthful, I hate california, so I won't be going very soon! I don't care about those gold teleporters, if I want special teleporters I'll go to WDW.

I don't care about those gold teleporters, if I want special teleporters I'll go to WDW.Yikes, kind of harsh isn't it. However, the gold door teleporters will only be a Disneyland Resort in California exclusive as I also expect some Everest stuff to be WDW exclusive.
