He tells jokes, facts and tells you about the park and whats on the rides. He sounds really fun but i didn't buy one. I know everything;) LOL ~StitchMad AGMartin2 01-22-2006, 11:09 AM I am going to disney next month, so I may buy one! Any other disney merchandise I can't miss out on? Are those everest sow on badges still available? MinnieMagic 01-22-2006, 12:25 PM Pal Mickey is lots of fun. From my understanding though I thought they discontinued renting him since he was so popular. My kids love having him with us. He tells about ride, shows and other pertinent info about the park. He also tells jokes and plays games. The games are great for standing in those long lines. BTW LOL we bought 1. AGMartin2 01-22-2006, 12:29 PM Can they update themselves, I heard when u walk through a turnstile it automatically updates itself! Is this true? Cakee 01-22-2006, 12:30 PM i have one, Pal Mickey is very cool:D It's worth the money xD I have him 2 years?? idk anymore idk about the turnstile tho ~Cake Oranges 01-22-2006, 12:30 PM The new Pal Mickey is a revolutionary invention that puts a tour guide right in the palm of your hand. With him in your possession, Pal Mickey can tell jokes, predict attraction queue times, and even tell when special characters are out and where to find them. He even tells you when the parades are, and where to find good seats. Pal Mickey is about $70, so take good care of him! When you take Pal Mickey when he is turned on he will activate his knowledge of the exact park you are in. bestroyal 01-22-2006, 12:41 PM can u buy a pal mickey in epcot AGMartin2 01-22-2006, 12:44 PM I believe u can, yhere are many shops in each park where u can buy them! bestroyal 01-22-2006, 12:46 PM yay i am going to epcot in march and i plan t o bring 200 dollars it is a school field trip BandGeek 01-22-2006, 08:16 PM does anyone know what type of technology the Pal Mickey uses? I think it would be an interesting fact to know.... I'm thinking infrared, or something to that effect. PrincessWall 01-22-2006, 08:20 PM I own a Pal Mickey,I bought him on my 8th trip to Disney, after renting him for a day. I dont really use him now, as I've not been to Disney 13 times, and dont really need the info, but if its your first few trips,he's really nice to have. He also plays games with you, and tells you when you should get to parades. He even tells ghost jokes when your in line for the Haunted Mansion :) What do ghosts eat for breakfast? Bagles and SCREAM cheese! EDIT: You can buy Pal mickeys at the VMK central store in Magic Kingdom, since VMK Central used to be the Pal mickey store! AGMartin2 01-22-2006, 08:31 PM does anyone know what type of technology the Pal Mickey uses? I think it would be an interesting fact to know.... I'm thinking infrared, or something to that effect. I would also like to know this! Oranges 01-22-2006, 08:47 PM It is actually probably very simple. There could easily be a simple chip inside that activates whenever you go through the turnstile of a park. A laser probably does the activating. brerrabbitfan 01-22-2006, 09:00 PM My Pal Mickey was great for the family at WDW over New Years. He did get a bit over anxious trying to tell me that I needed to get a spot for Illuminations while we were singing Happy Birthday in Alfredos at Epcot, and he made a stink in Philar Magic when I wasn't out for the parade. All in all- I love him and had to have him- regardless of the fact that I saw 3 and 4 year olds with one too. Get the pin that he works with also. I found mine at the cart outside of the United States in Epcot- but they were hard to find over the holidays and cast members had them without batteries and not for trade. On a side note- It was joking referred to as a GPS system b/c Mickey always knew where we were in the parks. Step out- and he was clueless, but still had jokes and songs and trivia when prompted. AGMartin2 01-22-2006, 09:04 PM What is this pin that works with him? Appleonia 01-22-2006, 09:04 PM i have one, Pal Mickey is very cool:D It's worth the money xD I have him 2 years?? idk anymore idk about the turnstile tho ~Cake Worth The Money? How Much Does It Cost?? AGMartin2 01-22-2006, 09:06 PM $60!!!!!!!! Appleonia 01-22-2006, 09:10 PM When I Saw That I Almost Choked (sp?) On My Chicken!! OMG! My Mom Would NEVER Let Me Buy That! VMKFREAK 01-22-2006, 09:13 PM They are worth the money they tell you all of the sepecil things that will go on ans when in each park and it know where and what park you are in MamaJo 01-22-2006, 09:26 PM Pal Mickey is worth the money. I bought one of the first when they came out and I still love it. It goes with me every time we go to the parks. It does update and knows exactly which park he's in. He will even tell you the times of the parades and shows, and also where there is the shortest queue lines and which character is on. He also tells interesting facts about some of the Disney attractions you are in when you go by them. Things you might not ever have known. DsnyManiac 01-23-2006, 02:55 AM can you buy Pal Mickey in California? Tangaroa 01-23-2006, 12:31 PM Pal Mickey is currently only offered at Walt Disney World. Back around the millennium celebration is when Disney first put the required infrastructure in place to support Pal Mickey (they started installing infrared transmitters that were first used for the Magical Moments pins that you could purchase and that would light up in different patterns around the park when triggered when you were near a particular attraction)- it offered a good opportunity to test the system as well as help offset some of the costs of putting in the technology. These same triggers/sensors are also used for some of the systems like the translation units or assistive captioning devices that you can rent in the parks (if you see people wearing what look like a red set of wireless headphones or a red PDA that's what they're for). Pal Mickey basically has a special chip embedded which contain all of the voice files needed for the attractions. The infrared receiver is located in Mickey's nose. When you walk by a trigger, that sends out an infrared signal that essentially says "play audio cues 5, 2, 6, 7" or something similar and the unit then basically pieces together individual audio clips to cause him to say things like "Hi, I'm Pal Mickey"). The key is being able to store/compress enough audio cues and pieces them together quickly and seamlessly so it sounds natural and also have enough logic built in that Pal Mickey can keep track of what attractions you've seen before (at least on that park visit) so he doesn't repeat the same queues over and over again. To a certain extent Pal Mickey can be updated about future attractions- it's whether they were in development when that Pal Mickey unit was built (those audio files are basically unlocked the moment when you walk into the park as another trigger is sent to tell Pal Mickey- ok, you're walking into Epcot). There have been 2 revisions of Pal Mickey, most recently for the Happiest Celebration on Earth. The earlier Pal Mickey 1.0 units would not have triggers for attractions like Soarin' or Expedition: Everest. They'll still work in the parks but they won't be able to provide details/trivia about the newer attractions and can not be updated with this information. Pal Mickey actually started off as a series of tests with a few different technology platforms first at Animal Kingdom (they looked into offering a PDA or handheld computer that would act as a sort of park guide and include things like a park map, update you on things like parade times and even track your fastpasses and dining reservations all for you and alert you when it's time to return). The first character tested at Animal Kingdom wasn't Mickey but actually was a young Simba stuffed animal so there is always the possibility of seeing future characters offered for a different type of experience. What is this pin and what does it do?? bestroyal 01-23-2006, 09:27 PM so u can not get them at epcot right Chirpin 01-23-2006, 11:25 PM can some one as=nswer my question StarLavender 01-23-2006, 11:36 PM 1.Pal Mickey is only at WDW 2.Yes he tells jokes and quizes at home. I bought The Happiest Celebration on Earth Pal Mickey during Thanksgiving and I brought him with me to WDW last Saturday. I entered the County Bounty at Toontown to find little extra outfits for him, such as a poncho, a safari suit, and tourist of the past. During Thanksgiving, I entered Soarin' (Mickey turns off during a ride) but he didn't turn back on till' 5 hours later at Test Track, and we never moved the switch. They fixed that though. PrincessA 01-24-2006, 01:19 AM yeah, I just wished if someone I knew got him for me, that he would say as much as he did in WDW or DLR.. But last time we went which was summer, he was way too expensive for my liking, but now that i saved uop money, next trip, mickey here i come! Xucid 01-24-2006, 02:07 AM they are a worthy investment. we have two in our household and i must say we really love him. he tells you facts about all the different parks and also some trivia. you can play games with him too. they are a bit pricey at $50, but well worth it. i believe you can buy one at all the parks (mgm epcot AK MK) PrincessDonnaT 01-24-2006, 02:38 AM Cool! Thanks for all of the information. We are going to WDW on Saturday visiting from California. I plan on buying the new 50th version for my 6year old son. I'm sure he will love it! (and me also ;) ) FantasyJustin 01-25-2006, 11:42 AM Well Some One Work For Disney I Now And I Got Palmickey For Only $20.00 Now Thats Saveing Lots Of Money brerrabbitfan 01-28-2006, 11:14 PM The pin is shaped like Mickey's head and is large and plastic with lights. Mickey's hand activates the light in different sequences. It is pretty cool. That pin was hard to find, but I was there long enough to see another shipment arrive. bestroyal 01-28-2006, 11:19 PM yay i wonder wat store in epcot i can get my pal mickey i want on |
