I am pretty sure this has been asked many times, but who exactly created VMK?

Plz dont say rude things about me if this is already widely known. I am not to sure who exactly did it. Everyone says it was someone different.

I don't think anyone in perticular created it, I think it was a team of Disney Cast workers in the offices. It probably had alot more creation years ago from the higher ups in the Disney corporation.

According to wikipedia Sulake created VMK for Disney. Sulake runs the largest non violent game site the world called Habbo Hotel. It looks a lot like VMK. I think it was VMK inspiration. Wikipedia has info on Sulake also.

yavn created vmk. when i was at WDW i asked who is the creator of vmk. they said yavn is his name on VMK

I Think Suslake (sp?) Created/Designed VMK.

The idea for VMK was put into place by one individual in Disney in particular (Walt Disney Parks and Resorts Online)- the creative lead for that group is <name removed> and he's a former Imagineer (he was a senior concept designer who worked on some projects like Innoventions and the Millenium Village at Epcot in WDW among some of his projects). It was he who really pitched the idea and also has set a lot of the look and feel for the project.

Incidentally it is he and not Yavn who serves as the voice you hear on the Jungle Cruise.

Basically the folks at Disney were looking for the best way to pull off this kind of project and looked at what was out there that was similar and that's how they came across working with the developers at Sulake who had the tools and experience to really be able to make VMK.

If you look carefully at the names on the license plates of the cars at the Sci-Fi area in VMK you can see the first names of some of the key individuals who have really shaped VMK (it borrows how at the real Sci-Fi at Disney-MGM Studios in florida the license plates on the cars there feature hints as to the Imagineers that worked on building that project)

Yavn is the manager of the advanced projects team for WDPRO (at least I think that's his official title you'd see on his business card)- he has a long history with Disney going back to the early 1990s where he was a designer responsible for things like Disney's Aladdin video game on the Sega Genesis and also the Lion King Game for the Sega Genesis as well (he's also well known in the video game industry for a few major projects he had worked on outside of Disney and has held some key positions with a few companies). So Yavn does serve in a lot of ways as lead designer and project manager from the Disney side of things on VMK.

Some of his other projects for WDPRO include Alias Underground, Brother Bear Puzzle, The Magical Gathering Vacation Planner and Mission: Space Online.

Well, i thought it was yavn too but turns out yavn is just a tester. i'm pretty sure it wasn't just one person it was probably a group of people. And don't feel stupid about it not too many people know.

So then Yavn, what does sulake have to do with vmk? Just wondering. Also wait, Yavn you helped created the Aladdin game?!?! You have absolutly no idea how much I played that game with my family. Pretty much a lot of what goes on in Disney is definitely a team effort- that's true of a lot of how things take shape within Disney (you really won't see Imagineers for example take individual credit on any of their projects because so many people are involved, except for a few exceptions *cough* DCA *cough*)

The creative lead over at WDPRO is someone I've had the opportunity to work with in the past in another role so sorry if it came across that he's the single key point person on the project (his influence is evident though in the game if you happen to know his personality and maybe his affinity for a particular animatronic bird for example- LOL). I had first learned of VMK through him so when he's spoken about the project he does take a lot of pride in the project and I guess it seems as though he takes a position of "ownership" in the project, but I'm sure that Yavn also feels like a proud parent of how VMK has turned out.

There are a lot of people who go into shaping the look and feel of VMK and credit really should go to that entire group for doing a great job of really capturing the identity of the real parks online.

1 question about the aladdin game
Wasn't there on for SNES just like it? I played that one, and loved it...

the aladin game for the SNES was the best! and yavn even helped make it that is so cool!

I worked on the Sega Genesis version by Virgin Games, not the SNES version done by Capcom.

Both games are totally different except for the Aladdin theme.

That being said the SNES (and now GBA version) is a great game and I still like to play it.

Lion King is a different story, I did design it and both SNES and Genesis versions are the same.

Why are people still posting and debating about what company or person made VMK? It has been explained in posts above. If you truly think about Walt Disney really only created Disneyland he had the vision for Disneyworld and beyond but he never lived to see it anything but Disneyland. And again go look at some of the posts by Yavn to see who created the game and what the story is.

wow yavn helped make the lion king game for sega. I used to be the sega Queen! i could beat every level on the lion king game and i still have the official sega lion king game book thing. my favorite level is three, the elephant graveyard, probably because i'm good at that level and its the funnest. thats awesome yavn!
