View Full Version : Ahhhh!
carlyiscoolio 12-28-2005, 03:50 PM this is astounding, and i did no eidt this. VMK_Red was answering questions in the staff River ride start room, and a boy asked, "will people get band from VMK for being taken" and VMK_Red said this-

Does anyone know why? this is REALLY shocking, and I thought VMK was out to get that taken stuff :(
Jdrizzle 12-28-2005, 03:52 PM Yeah taken stuff is actually not against the rules...I knew that but a lot of people dont if you check the vmk values there is nothing about taken stuff in there
Monsterman 12-28-2005, 03:56 PM OH my why can't they just stop it why can't they ban the words taken and mine
coolbabygrl 12-28-2005, 04:02 PM What The!? omg, i thought it was against vmk rules, because there are
like ppl age 9 or younger!?
Cakee 12-28-2005, 04:06 PM Ah!!
Oh no, this is bad.. the taken stuff is going to take over VMK since it's not against the rules..
- dramatic music starts -
NOOOOOOO!!!

GBShorts 12-28-2005, 04:15 PM Nope, not against the rules. Never has been.
People would just like to MAKE it against the rules.
Another reason why I say, unless you hear it from VMK themselves, don't believe most of what you hear.
Poseidon 12-28-2005, 04:19 PM That actually shocked me a little too. I knew it wasn't against the rules, but on various cast members have told certain VMKers that it WAS against the rules. They told, and confirmed it to me.
They should say in some way that it is against the rules. They can't take taken, mine, etc out of the dictionary, either. People actually use those for good use.
But, what I think is going to happen, is some little kid is going to try to meet up with a person they do not know, and VMK Staff will not see it. Then, something bad may happen to the kid, and VMK is in a load of trouble. If they want to avoid people trying to meet up, they need to somehow put restrictions.
i hate that taken stuff any way every day these lil 789 yr old kids ask me out and im like i dont do that its so annoying
Tallulauh 12-28-2005, 04:27 PM Wow. I guess I already knew that it wasn't against the rules but I never thought that a Staff would actually say that there's nothing wrong with it. (although I guess in a way they have to say the truth when someone asks) IDK it's just.... weird
MrGenie 12-28-2005, 04:38 PM But, what I think is going to happen, is some little kid is going to try to meet up with a person they do not know, and VMK Staff will not see it. Then, something bad may happen to the kid, and VMK is in a load of trouble. If they want to avoid people trying to meet up, they need to somehow put restrictions. The key distinction to make here is that giving out personal information has always been against the rules and strictly enforced, whereas playing "taken" or whatever you want to call it is not against the rules. Sure, someone could take "taken" too far and actually try to meet up in real life, but banning make-believe games in an attempt to discourage people from sharing personal information would just be redundant since it's already against the rules to share personal information.
VMK doesn't have a problem with people pretending in ways that don't violate the VMK Values or House Rules. Occasionally, they remove words from the dictionary that are leading to problematic types of make-believe if the word doesn't have a fairly legitimate innocuous use. No matter how many words you take out of the dictionary though, people will always find a new word to use so that is no panacea.
I am not aware of VMK staff saying that "taken" is against the rules, but it would not surprise me as there seems to be a lack of communication. However, I believe VMK_Red's comment below is actually more in-line with the official policy. Sometimes people take "taken" too far and then it does become against the rules; determining when this behavior crosses the line is a subjective call, and each VMK staff member probably has their own unqiue take on it. To that end, "taken" is only against the rules to the extent it violates one of the other VMK Values. Some people find it annoying and go around saying that all forms of it are against the rules, but that is incorrect.
At any rate, keep in mind that discussion of bf/gf/dating is no longer allowed on the forum. For details, please see this thread (http://www.vmkforums.com/forums/showthread.php?t=9881). We have allowed a brief discussion here because I think it clears up a common misunderstanding, but I am going to close the thread now since I think this issue has been adequately clarified.
Bilbo 12-28-2005, 04:42 PM At first I thought I read it wrong! Then I read it five more times! HOST_Annie, told me that taken stuff was against the rules. Hmm.... Now I'm confused!!
