Presenting the VMK Clock:

http://img322.**************/img322/3108/screenshot12tj.jpg (http://**************)

Yes, the clock really tells time. The red tiki indicates the hour, the yellow tiki indicates the minute, and the blue tiki swings back and forth every 5 seconds.

As we begin another circle around the sun, come see how close to middle-night it is.

I assure people that it is there and moving. :) As long as people (or VMK) don't mess me up I'll be fine.

The room name is VMK Clock, and my name is Priz - you can search for either. (I was disconnected for a bit, but its back now.)

Amazingly, I kept it going until closing time last night:

http://img454.**************/img454/1452/screenshot23qp.jpg (http://**************)

Thanks to everyone for stopping by to take a look and get completely bored. :) I have to admit, it isn't exactly the most exciting room to hang around, and I may be making some changes to make it a little more interesting (but hey, there isn't much I can do with a clock). I may also change the title slightly, possibly to "VMK Clock - it works!" or something like that. Your thoughts on both these issues welcome.

Over the next few days I'll be revealing some more information about the clock and how I came up with the idea. Till then, I hope you'll stop by... and if you don't have the time, thats ok, cuz I do.

Have a Disney Day, everyone.

The 12 marker is right below where the blue tiki moves, towards the "top" or the upper left. It will be replaced with a Master Gracey clock as soon as I get my hands on one.

Given VMKs operating hours, even that is not guaranteed. There are only 6 hours during the day which that holds true.

Yesterday I stopped by for a bit and found your brother maybe?

Yes, he was helping me out answering questions, for the most part, since I can't really talk to people while I'm moving the clock.

Lol, I am so dense! I assumed you were afk in there or working on something when ClubDisCM and I stopped by, and we didn't stay long enough to notice that the clock was running. It never occurred to me that you would actually be moving the parts yourself all day long! I thought you must have discovered some secret mechanism to make it automatic........

Nope, nothing really secret. Just stuff I've talked about in the past, applied to something I thought would be a little neat. :) Downside, of course, is that I spend my entire day doing this instead of crashing for credits.

Thank you, everyone, for your feedback about the room. :)

Well, after a number of complaints about not seeing the blue tiki, and not beleiving that things were actually moving, I've moved the second (sea-cans) hand so it actually goes around in a circle:

...stand in a room for hours on end, moving furniture, and not talking to anybody. :D

That said, I'd be thrilled if I got BGR, but I don't really expect to. This isn't the kind of room they seem to award. We did get a staff visit yesterday (picture follows), but HOST_Annie didn't exactly stay long enough to see the clock doing much. And she didn't say anything. (Not sure what inspired her to actually visit, either.)

http://img528.**************/img528/6353/screenshot47ft.jpg (http://**************)

EDIT: Is there a reason you are hiding behind your brother?

A few reasons, actually.
Saves space. I don't really want to clutter up the rest of the clock with a lot of other places for me to sit (although I may add some additional stuff soon, if I ever get a haunted mansion clock), so I leave the few places available to walk to guests visiting the room.
Easier for me. People making trade requests mess me up. Hiding in the entrance makes it more difficult for people to do that.

(A FAQ is coming... as is the story that inspired the room.)

I'm there running it - so I don't say much.

The clock is set to Disneyland/VMK time - the same time messages sent on VMK will show. (I was going to set it to WDW time, so we can see Midnight on New Years Eve, but that seemed wrong.)

Unlike my past two major rooms, the story of the VMK Clock is more grounded in reality than fiction.

I've always been facinated by clocks, calendars, and time. I used to take clocks apart and collect old calendars. One of the first programs I write when I learn a new programming language is something to compute the number of seconds until some special event.

Strange and different clocks and calendars have always held some interest to me. Have you heard of the Long Now Foundation (http://www.longnow.org/)? They're working on a clock that will run for 10,000 years. Or consider a Foucault Pendulum (http://en.wikipedia.org/wiki/Foucault_pendulum) (which I first saw in the Smithsonian Institution), which is a clock powered solely on the rotation of the earth.

I should also give a shout out at this point to WingedHeart, whose room I must have seen while I was pondering the idea, but which didn't come back to me until my brother saw it after I had the clock running. I suspect the idea was also motivated by things like ForeverGoofy's Tiki Idol Races, and AceMage's (I think I got that name right) skeleton pirate waiters.

But I think the most powerful thing that motivated this room in VMK was our visit to WDW during the Millenium Celebrations they had (was actually there for the fireworks at the start of the REAL millenium). The music and images from Epcot during that time still shape my thoughts of New Year celebrations. The Tapestry of Nations parade continues to be one of my favorite Disney parades - its opening story of the Sage of Time walking across the face of the Earth even now brings a tear to my eye. The beauty and skill of the Sage, of the many dancers and puppeteers that follow. The thrill and image that the rotating drums bring. The lighting of the torches surrounding the lagoon. The beautiful music. Capped at the end of the night by one of my favorite nighttime light shows Iluminations: Reflections of Earth, with its displays of raw fire, dancing lights, images from around the world, and motivating torches, all set to stirring words and music. These hang with me always.

I'll leave you with images from Tapestry of Nations of the Sage of Time and the drums (just click on them to see them full size), followed by a quote from the final sequence of Iluminations: Reflections of Earth.

http://img409.**************/img409/3102/p12600149xk.th.jpg (http://img409.**************/my.php?image=p12600149xk.jpg) http://img409.**************/img409/947/p12600712mn.th.jpg (http://img409.**************/my.php?image=p12600712mn.jpg)

I am curious to hear more about your Skeleton Gallery.

I am amazed that you can keep the clock working to really show the time! And, that you take the time to move it and keep up with it is noble as well.

Well, I don't have the visual flair that you do in your clock room. But it seemed a real challenge to me to come up with a relatively easy way to move objects precisely. But the design challenge is what makes VMK fun for me, and a clock is the epitome of precision.

In my clock room, VMK Time Keeper, time stands still let me tell you! But, great minds think alike apparently...same clock idea, same space room!

It is very interesting, actually, to compare the similarities and differences between our rooms. As for time standing still - an interesting wish some.. times. :)

That's exactly what I was wondering. I agree that if I had thought of something I felt was a brilliant idea, I would take all my time on VMK and make it work and concentrate on only that. lol.. Is that what you are doing? Staying in your room to control your cool new room and present it to visitors.. it make sense. The only thing I would feel that after a while - in the case that you would get bored with your own idea (as one does with each game/guest room they make) - that you would close your clock temporarily. You know, "VMK Clock - Closed" and browse the VMK street; daily give-aways, earning credits, and visiting friends. ;)

Honestly though, this clock is a great piece of work and I'll stop by to see it in process when VMK opens. Good job. :D

Lol, AceLollipop. I don't think this has anything to do with the bugs.

Only indirectly. I was this crazy before I got on my anti-bug kick in VMK. In fact, they're probably the same craziness.

And about the time paragraph...I read the entire thing! I would have posted, but I didn't see the thread until...today.

I was joking a little. Tho I am a little surprised that nobody has commented on it yet.

Okay, so there is some kind of programming thing you use in conjunction with this?

Yes, I do have a program on my computer that tells me the time and where in the circle I need to place things. I'll go into detail about the math behind the clock another time. (Practical uses for math! You could get extra credit for this in school just by playing VMK! :D)

Did you stay on Vmk all day, moving the clock? Nonstop?

Mostly. I've been taking more and more breaks recently. And pretty soon I'll have to stop doing this because of other demands on my day. (And a need to earn credits.)

I agree that if I had thought of something I felt was a brilliant idea, I would take all my time on VMK and make it work and concentrate on only that. lol.. Is that what you are doing? Staying in your room to control your cool new room and present it to visitors.. it make sense.

Basically. I had this great idea, and the... time... to implement and run it. So while I still have the time I want to show off the idea. Perhaps inspire others to come up with an even better idea!

(My thanks to my brother, who usually fields most of these questions and who put this list, and most of the answers, together.)

'The time has come,' the Walrus said,
'To talk of many things:
Of shoes -- and ships -- and sealing wax --
Of cabbages -- and kings --
And why the sea is boiling hot --
and whether pigs have wings.'

--Lewis Carroll, Through the Looking Glass

Where is the owner?
Priz, the owner, is standing in the entrance behind where everyone comes in.

Why isn't he talking?
Because he is running the clock. He does say things sometimes, but usually he is quite busy.

This is a fake! Someone is moving the clock!
Just because Priz moves the tikis doesn't mean it isn't real and doesn't tell time.

Does Priz ever take a break?
Sometimes. I usually bring him lunch and such.

Isn't this boring?
For some reason he is having fun doing it. He watches TV and such.

This is boring!
Feel free to leave at any... time!

Why are you doing this?
Priz has always loved clocks and time, so it seemed natural. He is also trying out some things which makes it easier and faster to figure out where to place things.

What time is it?
Funny. Very funny.

No, seriously, which way is up?
We are standing at the 3 on the clock. The river is at the top and the Master Gracie clock is at the 12.

Why doesn't this clock match mine?
The clock is set to show the time that is in Disneyland. This also matches the time that is on the messages that you get in VMK.

Why isn't red pointing correctly?
Look at a real clock, and you'll see that the hands actually move continuously. That is awfully difficult for Priz, so he only moves things periodically. He does move the hour hand, so its not always pointing at the hour, but is "close" to what a real clock face would look like. He doesn't move the minute hand like that, however. (I'll go into more detail about this in another post.)

Does anyone have green flips for trade?
This isn't a trade room. And asking the question over and over is more annoying than watching the seconds tick by.

Can I use magic?
Lots of talking and lots of magic tend to slow the room down, and can sometimes mess things up for Priz. So while it can be fun, don't go overboard on either.

Can you let me in?
No. We don't want people getting in the way of the clock hands. Feel free to take the river ride and get off behind the Master Gracie clock, however.

Has staff seen this room?
Just for a few moments. Not sure they really got that the clock moved.

I'll leave you with images from Tapestry of Nations of the Sage of Time and the drums (just click on them to see them full size), followed by a quote from the final sequence of Iluminations: Reflections of Earth.

...as our dreams begin another thousand circles round the sun.

i have always thought of time and when did it start it did not start when animals came on earth not when humans did way before there was a earth and i have always asked the same two questions when did time start? and when will it end? When u think hard u remeber that u are looking at ur self first person and that u can only think at ur thoughts without u knowing others
so what does it feel like to be dead ur body is just dead but if u get a new body and put ur brain in it then u would be alive aagin our bodys are like cars for our minds and thoughts but when we die will time end we would not know bc we would be dead and if there is recarnation then we would not remeber a thing of our past life we would just be living the things that are in life are
u are born
u live life
then u die and when u are dead u are dead there is no changing that but it all goes back to the same question will time end and when ppl say the world does not revolve arounf u it does to ur prospective bc u are looking at the world in first person veiw and u can not feel pain of others u cant think the prosice same as other but u can think like ur self and and u can feel pain that is on u
as Albert Enistine said with relitvity that time is relitive to were u are
i will explane

say u were looking at a air plane from the ground it looks like it is going a 50 miles an hour
when u are inside the plane it seems like that plane it seems like u are going slower
when u are a few feet out side the plane.. ..it is gone in a secound and teo secounds later it is a hundred miles away
so what does that mean on time it means that time goes around u and when u die ur time goes away also when u are born time starts a new
