First off, Welcome to VMK Forums, please enjoy your stay and tell all your friends.
NEVER GIVE ANYONE YOUR USERNAME AND PASSWORD (to the game or the forums)
Although we try to make these forums a safe place, we have to give out a quick warning which all of you should know.
There are things you should watch out for an report to us if you see, these are scammers, password stealers and the like.
"A scammer is someone who will try to steal your credits and stuff or take over your Character.
The more time you spend playing VMK and browsing the forums, the more knowledge you gain about safety-related issues, but when it comes to scammers you always have to be careful. Just when you think you know all the scams, they come up with a new one.
The best thing to remember is that if it sounds too good to be true, it probably is. Read (http://vmk.disney.go.com/vmk/en_US/help/index?name=SafetyKeepingYourStuffSafePage) about how these scammers work and you can make sure you don't fall for their tricks.
Scamming is against the VMK Values (http://vmk.disney.go.com/vmk/en_US/help/index?name=SafetyVMKWayPage) and, in most cases, the law. ALLFOREVER. If you see someone scamming on VMK or the forums, you should ALWAYS message a Forum Leader or a Community Leader and report the person. scammers will be banned from VMK and the Forums."

Scammers are very good at tricks like some of them say "You're about to become a commutity member but first you need to give me your password" That can only be done by the Disney Site workers not the in-game players so it's a type of scamming
PinkTink 06-14-2005, 04:35 PM I had someone yesterday that kept begging me to give him my magic pin just to try it out. He "promised" to return it afterwards. Some nice people may fall for this. Best thing to do if you want the item is don't trade it.
ceburto 06-14-2005, 05:54 PM I had a female user do that as well. Promised to give it right back. Then got in a snit becuase I didn't trust her. "I like to be trusted." yeah, we all do honey.

LadyFire 07-19-2005, 12:39 AM How do they steal them?
Jediviper 07-19-2005, 03:13 AM Ok I have to say something here...
There have been a few instances of people posting names of alleged scammers on the forums. I have replied to these and posted my opinion on the subject...

http://www.vmkforums.com/forums/showthread.php?p=28691#post28691
This time however I feel that the last few posts are blatantly flames. If I am wrong on this I would like a Mod to please let me know.
Accusations of this nature, without any information to be garnered from the post are personal attacks against these people!
I whole heartedly believe that if you or someone you know is scammed (or has an attempted made) that you should notify VMK immediately! I also think there is nothing wrong with putting up a post here that says: "Today someone tried to _______", please give us the details, what was asked for, what was offered, how the scam worked, that sort of thing. Leave it to VMK to punish the player responsible.
Ok rant over, continue your day. :)
Mickey_Dude 07-20-2005, 03:11 PM :mad: All the mods i say this in not offense but as a fact If! we do not post the names of these scammers how do we keep everyone "informed" how do we keep everyone safe when the next person that visits your room might be that Scammer and about the personal attack they have it coming to them in the first place like i am going to be happy and jumping if a dumb scammer takes my coffin teleporters no insted i am going to go on the forums and keep everyone informed but if you mods have such a big problem with everyone keeping everyone informed how bout if i not say their name but their intials?
LadyFire 07-20-2005, 06:08 PM My family and I went to disneyland and my son created his character there. He is under 13. When we got home we could never find it again. Then my husband found a request from Disney (e-Mail) for permission for us to allow our son to go to VMK. I understand that and clicked ok. I get transfered to a disney on line site that says we have to input our credit card number and my(as the adult) log-in name for VMK. Is that right? I can click use another method of I.D. but they are all quite personal. Can I trust this? Will my son finally be able to use his character? Thanks everyone!
MrGenie 07-20-2005, 07:40 PM :mad: All the mods i say this in not offense but as a fact If! we do not post the names of these scammers how do we keep everyone "informed" how do we keep everyone safe when the next person that visits your room might be that Scammer and about the personal attack they have it coming to them in the first place like i am going to be happy and jumping if a dumb scammer takes my coffin teleporters no insted i am going to go on the forums and keep everyone informed but if you mods have such a big problem with everyone keeping everyone informed how bout if i not say their name but their intials?If you feel you have been scammed in VMK, the appropriate course of action is to report it to VMK. Posting a warning on the forum about a potential scammer may deter others from accidentally being scammed by this person, but all too often these posts turn into flames which are not permitted on the forum. Also, there is no way for forum Moderators to verify the accuracy of these posts on scammers. How can we allow the legitimate complaints without also allowing fake complaints (trolling)? Obviously, we do not want anyone to get scammed. However, at some point VMK needs to police itself since ultimately we at the forum have no power to remove a scammer from the game, other than to report them to VMK.
As an alternative to posts such as "OMG SO-AND-SO IS A MAJOR SCAMER LOOK OUT!!!1", if you feel the need to dissuade others from being scammed then I would recommend that you post examples of potential scams and how to avoid them. There will always be new people signing up to VMK and trying to exploit people by scamming. However, in my opinion there are only a few types of actual scams, and these are all completely avoidable if you are aware of how they operate. I think VMK has done a great job updating their scam alert page (http://vmk.disney.go.com/vmk/en_US/help/index?name=SafetyKeepingYourStuffSafePage), and I am sure they take this issue very seriously. Still, I don't see a problem with a discussion on the forum of how to avoid the most common scams. This would be much more helpful and efficient than just trying to identify every scammer.
Here is an example of the area that I believe creates the biggest potential for scams (particularly in conjunction with the forum): trades involving codes. Unlike in-game trading where both people get to see the items on both side of the trade window before checking the box, there is no way to confirm that someone is trying to trade you a valid code until you actually try it. This sets up a problem because someone in the trade is always at the mercy of the other. Example: suppose you are trying to trade a VIP code for an inferno pin. If the person with the inferno pin won't give you their pin until you give them the code and they try it out, if you give them the code there is no way to guarantee they will give you their pin. On the other hand, suppose they give you their inferno pin first in exchange for the code; here, they are trusting you, but there is no way to make you give them your code even after you have their pin. The moral of this story is, don't trade codes with people unless you completely trust them.

Today, I repeatedly observed *a Quester* stealing other players gold ears. He is a cheat, and most likely a hacker, because the other players never accepted the trade. He asked them to put the item in the window, and after they did, he simply hacked their inventory and stole the ears from them. He did this many times today, as I obseved him from a few of my other accounts. His line is always that he will trade inferno magic for ears. Please beware of *Quester*. I saw one little girl simply crushed when he did this to her. He gives VMK a bad name. I reported him, as I was one of his victims as well. Hackers make the game really bad. Perhaps we need to start a thread of the screen names of known cheaters.
It might be helpful for new players to know who not to trust in their early days of VMK.
SparkleMeTink 07-22-2005, 08:39 AM First I need to say i'm sorry. I didn't mean to blurt out the names of those players like that without telling you what happened.
One of these players asked one of my friends kids to "borrow" her gold ears. When she let the player borrow the ears, the players ran off. This player was on her friends list. She thought she could trust this person. The player was reported to VMK immediately. With the other player, a similar situation happened with one of her magic pins. Again, this person was reported to VMK immediately. I think she learned her lesson in letting people borrow her stuff, she now asks her mom first if it's okay to let so-n-so borrow her stuff. A great lesson learned for all.
Also, Norbie, I like the idea of having a list of known cheaters. I think it would be a great benefit to new VMK players. What do you think Mods?

Even tho i am not a mod, i think this is a bad idea... all the known cheaters will just get a new screen name and transwer the stolen goods to it and we wont know who they are when they scamm again.

Jediviper 07-22-2005, 09:20 AM Also, Norbie, I like the idea of having a list of known cheaters. I think it would be a great benefit to new VMK players. What do you think Mods?
The biggest question here would be, how do we determine who is a "known" cheater?
If they have been reported to VMK and the team of people who actually have access to the text logs, then they will probably get the good old 10 year IP ban. In which case, we would not ever have to deal with them again.
It all comes down to this; we cannot prove their guilt or innocence on this site, therefore we should not make accusations.
I am in no way saying that these things don't happen or that they are the players own fault. I feel terrible every time I hear a story about how some unscrupulous player absconded with someone else virtual belongings. There is, however a right place name names, and a wrong place.
Here, on this site is simply the wrong place.

Silly Princess 07-22-2005, 09:28 AM Please DO NOT name Quester's names when reporting scams. You may give a report on what you believe happened, just replace the name with *Quester* or another general term, in accordance with the following guideline:
“Naming Names” – This falls under “Flaming”. Naming people or their characters in negative light is not permitted. That person is not able to defend themselves or their actions and what seems like an inappropriate action, which can often be a simple misunderstanding, can lead to a negative reaction against that toon (avoidance, revenge). If someone griefs you in the game, report it to VMK Staff. If someone griefs you on this site, PM a moderator or report their posts.

All right, mods and experts: Once and for all, is it really possible for someone's inventory to be "hacked"? I understand that some people may check the "accept" box without realizing it, but is there any way possible for a hacker to access the items in a trade window even if "accept" is never checked? Is this technically possible?

you can not hack an invintory... the only way to take something from the is getting player pressing accept or to go on their account.

Are we sure this game will last beyond the approx. 2 year marketing term for the 50th birthday?

LOL, I have no idea!
What I was referring to is the actual 10 year ban you can get for gross violations of VMK policy or "values" as they were.

AGgal 08-04-2005, 02:01 AM Some people see other people saying bad words or doing something bad. Maybe Shut up? The question here is..IS IT OK TO REPORT THEM? What if the person, or people meant to say something else? Then you could report someone for doing something on accident! That's terrible even thinking of it.

They claimed the same thing in the original EverQuest yet it was done repeatedly. Many of the high end items were also duped that way.
But another thing to watch out for is the one that was attempted on me recently:
a GuestXXXXXX kept asking to borrow my princess costume to "see how she would look in it" and didn't like my imagine your head instead of mine answer. Then suddenly another avatar pipes up with "let her try it on, I'll make certain she gives it back". After repeated hounding of these two, followed by reporting of them, they stopped. Oddly enough, both avatars stayed next to each other even when one walked off, the other followed and stopped next to her.
Seemed to me someone was running two accounts and trying to scam the hard working folks out of their picanic baskets.
I followed them under my sister's account and they were as close as glue.
Just be aware and not afraid to say NO!

Eviie 09-04-2005, 06:17 PM Hey everyone well anyways heres a story which happen to have happened to my little cousin. I was in my house when my phone rings and its my little cousin he tells me that he has been scammed when i go on VMK i see his person, it wasnt really my little cousin on it was the scammer. And i pretended like everything was ok and that i thought it was my cousin. I would say things like "Hey whats up" he/she would reply "Hey nothing you" things like that they also tried to say bad things on my little cousins player to get him banned. They gave my boy cousin a pink shirt with purple shorts changed his tone/hair/face everything. And on top of that they used all his credits, and im talking about 0 credits left. I was shocked! His mom then emailed VMK and told them the situation and they replyed back and told them they'd check out the whole thing. I asked my cousin if he ever mistakenly gave the password to someone. He told me he didnt, but of course people in VMK find out your information witout you even giving it out. Thanks everyone who took the time and read this.

Angel Fancy 09-27-2005, 01:48 AM Sorry to say I lost my gold ears today to one <name removed>. I said I had gold ears to trade for teleportation pin. He said he would trade with me. When I put the gold ears up he put a crate up and I was getting ready to tell him no, I want pin and he put the pin in and said he was having trouble with trade. He told me that I would have to hit the accept button really quick because the pin kept dissappearing if you waited to long. I hit accept, the pin dissappeared and so did my ears and <name removed>. I am heartsick and feel like a complete idiot. Please be aware of who you are dealing with and be aware of the situation. If things seem odd, or if you feel like something isn't right, it probably is'nt. Say no thanks, I've changed my mind and get out of there. So here I am earless but wiser, Angel Fancy :wave2: :princess:
TowerFreak99 09-27-2005, 02:20 AM I asked to see what they have for trade in the trade window before i even show my stuff that i will be willing to trade with
Angel Fancy 09-30-2005, 01:58 AM No longer earless. After losing my ears I contacted VMK. I really did not expect to get my ears back but, they did replace my ears. I will never again offer them for trade again. I have gotten very uneasy about trading. Hopefully, I will get over it. Angel Fancy :wave2: :wave2:

She wanted to borrow my fireworks pin (It was inside VMK_Babs' room)
I hda a plan though. I let her borrow it, and she said she would give it back. (Yeah right.) VMK_Babs was watching the whole thing.
She left. Then came back and said she 'crashed' and a VMK_Staff member took it. We all know that VMK Staff won't take your stuff. This was part of the trap. I went into teh trade and said give it back. She accidentally flashed the pin (WHAT A LOSER). She said, 'uh' and left again. Thank you VMK_Babs, we uncovered another scammer.
(And VMK Eviie, you might want to erase your cousin's age from your post)
patsylynn 11-11-2005, 01:31 AM I had the loan me your magic scam from someone who had been on my friend list for quite a while. I loaned it and she took it and deleted me from her friend list. I learned that lesson the hard way.
DsnyManiac 11-11-2005, 09:06 AM Once i was trading and i offered like 8 really good things, and i said "where is the stuff you are trading me?" and he is like "It's there, there must be something wrong with your computer" and guess what, i feel for it!
Pollywolly 12-09-2005, 11:14 PM I know how you feel DsnyManiac once i was trading for inferno i traded tons of rare things and he said ok that is good and i said put inferno on please and he said don't you see it its there and i accept ( not thinking ) and then i looked in my stuff and it was not in there! He was already gone and i never saw him again :mad: :mad: :mad: :mad:
soccerkidtlk 01-07-2006, 09:21 PM No longer earless. After losing my ears I contacted VMK. I really did not expect to get my ears back but, they did replace my ears. I will never again offer them for trade again. I have gotten very uneasy about trading. Hopefully, I will get over it. Angel Fancy :wave2: :wave2:
did you really get them back! wow how did they do it?
bgwatermelon2468 01-23-2006, 05:05 PM i agree with everyone here lol
brerrabbitfan 01-29-2006, 10:59 PM Why do some still try and get you to let them try out your magic?
Then they say VMK lies that is it possible and ok to do it and that I had to do it to get to trade him. And all this in a get stuff free room! How silly did he think I was?
MagicalGlow 05-14-2006, 03:29 AM good job nick :)

DizVMK 05-27-2006, 11:03 PM Good News,

Once, I was friends with one girl, she said she had another friend, and I wasn't friends with the other girl, and one girl whined " Your my bffl on VMK! Please let me borrow your dress! " and so I did, I was going to take a picture of a her and she said " No don't take the picture until my friend gets a hero suit!! " So I gave her friend a hero suit, I told them to pose, then they both said " Were not ready! "
[ ( ! ) ] Then they ran off without there picture taken [ ( ! ) ]
[ ( ! ) ] Two Months Later I got Both The Costumes Back! [ ( ! ) ]

Do you think this was a SCAM!
RikuBlade 07-10-2006, 07:33 PM What a noob. Some friend.
That was a definite scam, and the saddest I have seen.
Acepowerboy 07-10-2006, 08:06 PM What a noob. Some friend.
That was a definite scam, and the saddest I have seen.
You have to be so careful now with this ppl. Is hard to say yes to new friends now.
Tyrannosaurus 07-10-2006, 10:09 PM Ok I have to say something here...
There have been a few instances of people posting names of alleged scammers on the forums. I have replied to these and posted my opinion on the subject...
http://www.vmkforums.com/forums/showthread.php?p=31853#post31853
http://www.vmkforums.com/forums/showthread.php?p=28691#post28691
wait...the second picture...when he takes out the gold ears doesn't the other players accept go off too?and doesn't it say '' do u accept?
Tanimalcrossing 08-05-2006, 12:58 AM happened to me twice...
first I was told it was four star fireworks, (it was two)
then told it was five star teleportation , (it was one)
nice people always fall for this one. don't get scammed this way..
Innocent_Bunny 08-16-2006, 09:00 AM In other words,
Scammers are people who just can't work for their own stuff.
And yes, people have scammed me quite a bit, but i didn't fall for it.
One of them was: May i please try your magic?
I said: No sorry. ( left )
~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~
Another said: May i plz try on your full pink dress to see how it looks on me?
I said: nope sorry don't do lends. * Then I just looked like her and had the full pink dress on *
She then said: no that's not what i meant. anyway, do u have any type of free stuff?
I said: No sorry.
She said: Well i'm not leaving until u do.
I said: Well, I always have the option of booting you.
** SHE LEFT **
[[ Usually the easiest way to reply to a scammer when they ask for your stuff is: No sorry, I worked for my own stuff, did you? -- then leave ]]
Anyway, my point is, don't fall for these tricks. You have worked very hard for your stuff, and it doesn't deserve to be taken away by a selfish scammer.
Stay safe!
(50th post, woohoo!)
Narnian_Princess 08-16-2006, 05:07 PM Just two days ago, a girl asked me to trade. She put up a blue PhilharMagic chair and a regular velvet-rope divider, both items you can buy in the Emporium.
She said, "this is super rare, wat do u give me?" I didn't reply for a minute.
She says, "are u trying to trick me?"
I say, "no, just trying to figure out if these are buyable"
She says, "no they are rare"
I say, "ok", (thinking, yeah right)
She says, "i trick other people, but not you"
I say, "sure", leave trade, and report.
So close... if I had been newer, I would have accepted.
SoyWamp 08-16-2006, 07:30 PM to me, the easiest and most fun way to deal with a costume "lend" is to just change your appearence to look like the other person. they feel really stupid after that, and if people are there, they just say, "oh, cool" and leave.
RyKnow80787 08-20-2006, 04:50 PM What does the warning about the use of scripting tools to get codes mean?
GBShorts 08-20-2006, 06:14 PM What does the warning about the use of scripting tools to get codes mean?
It means don't use a code generator. That's cheating, scamming, and illegal, and you will be banned from VMK for it.
DragonBoosterDragon 11-07-2006, 04:37 AM First off, Welcome to VMK Forums, please enjoy your stay and tell all your friends.
NEVER GIVE ANYONE YOUR USERNAME AND PASSWORD (to the game or the forums)
Although we try to make these forums a safe place, we have to give out a quick warning which all of you should know.
There are things you should watch out for an report to us if you see, these are scammers, password stealers and the like.
"A scammer is someone who will try to steal your credits and stuff or take over your Character.
The more time you spend playing VMK and browsing the forums, the more knowledge you gain about safety-related issues, but when it comes to scammers you always have to be careful. Just when you think you know all the scams, they come up with a new one.
The best thing to remember is that if it sounds too good to be true, it probably is. Read (http://vmk.disney.go.com/vmk/en_US/help/index?name=SafetyKeepingYourStuffSafePage) about how these scammers work and you can make sure you don't fall for their tricks.
Scamming is against the VMK Values (http://vmk.disney.go.com/vmk/en_US/help/index?name=SafetyVMKWayPage) and, in most cases, the law. ALLFOREVER. If you see someone scamming on VMK or the forums, you should ALWAYS message a Forum Leader or a Community Leader and report the person. scammers will be banned from VMK and the Forums."
Please visit the Official Disney Scam Page (http://vmk.disney.go.com/vmk/en_US/help/index?name=SafetyKeepingYourStuffSafePage) for more information.
oldgrumpy 11-12-2006, 04:32 PM i got cheated today! if ythey trade a pair of teleportes that don't match get another pair in trade
In the past, this was a problem.
But now, matching teleporters will "flash".
If someone puts up 2 teleporters, and they aren't flashing, don't ok the trade.
adirkc 11-12-2006, 10:26 PM ok, thanks, i'll remember that for next time.
mynamegorgina 04-04-2007, 06:02 AM a couple weeks ago, my friend wanted to borrow my top hat. i got all scared and said NO WAY! and stuff like that, but then i started to trust him. i kept saying, i trust you! to make him feel guilty if he took it. he gave it back and then i was certain he wasn't a scammer, so he asked to borrow it again and i trusted him. he deleted me from his friend list and ran off with it. >=[ i felt so used and stupid. if you know him, his name is BMonkey and he is a scammer. if you see him, take precaution!!
my word. DONT LET ANYONE "BORROW" YOUR STUFF THAT U TRESURE!!!!!! U reported the person right? Thats all i need to say for u. I've had 2 attempts to scam off on me. 1st one tried to talk me into "borrowing" my seagull hat. i just left the room after that happened. the 2nd time was a bribe. The person said give me ur password and ill give u a stitch hat. This was obviously a scammer so i ended up just logging out of vmk
atheltichick 07-16-2007, 08:14 PM hey i no exactely how u feel my friend was getting a new room and 1 of her friends was getting her the room. the girl ran off with all of my friends stuff. and deleted my friend her name was like <name removed>.
xxlilgoddessx 08-17-2007, 07:13 PM a lot of ppl who start games of cute or boot give ppl three options. pay watch or boot. is it scamming to stay in the current game by paying?
bee2u 08-18-2007, 03:45 PM a lot of ppl who start games of cute or boot give ppl three options. pay watch or boot. is it scamming to stay in the current game by paying?
It is now against the values to make people pay for anything, so if a person is offering pay, watch, or boot, they will be banned because pay is not allowed.
la4gator 08-18-2007, 10:40 PM yeah im glad about the not being aloud to pay :D
spacerightsummer 01-05-2008, 04:52 PM well just the other day i was at the small world imports and i observed two characters literally in public bragging about how they scammed some people of their stuff. the gall!! If the logs are ever read on these characters they will be easily banned. I made sure they knew that if they got caught they would be reported. As far as trade is concerned i do not trade with anyone but my closest vmk friends. when you have established a good trust relationship with anyone on vmk it just makes sense. keep it safe all. ;)
victoriag 01-16-2008, 04:09 PM OMG! i agree with just about all of this.
This is my little sister's account but i do all her trading etc.. for her bc for the same reason i don't want her to be scammed bc she is young and therefor very trusting of other people.
On Saturday I was watching TV and letting her play, she met a new friend, and was playing with her on VMK in the other girl's room. The Other Girl said " We are playing Slumber Party, and I'm The Queen bc it's my room, and only the Queen can wear Gold. " " So Can I Wear Your Gold Dress? " She was smart enough to say no a few times, but after being badgered by the girl, she finally gave in, and let her borrow her dress.
At that point i go in there to check on her to see what she's doing etc... and she's sad bc the girl won't give her the dress back! I have told her time and time again not to let ppl borrow your stuff! ESPECIALLY your rare stuff!
I of course knew she would never see the dress again, but i continue to try to get it back. I click on the girls name so i can report her. I told her she needs to give the dress back now or i'm going to report her. at that point i already had reported her, so i got her into a trade and said give the dress back now! She then booted me from her room, and deleted me from her list
Bye Bye Gold Dress and it was one of her favorites!
This time she learned her lesson! I Guarantee she will never do that again!
Also here's another story!
One of her really really good friends wanted to borrow her Inferno so they could take a picture with it, and give it right back. I was so apprehensive about this and warned her not to do it! She didn't seem to mind, so i told her OK if your going to do this, you need to get items that are worth your inferno from him as a trade just incase he is a scammer. Luckily the guy did not scam her, but if he would have she would have had gold black and dream ears.
I just dont understand scammers, and how they can live with themselves for Scamming innocent Children who know nothing other than to trust.
It just makes no sense!
Emerald.Star 02-22-2008, 01:36 AM Scamming happens everyday. o_o
TIP: If you ever get scammed, DON'T USE CALL FOR HELP!! Use contact us!! If you report the scammer using Call For Help, they'll tell you to not abuse the call for help button. If you use contact us, they'll do something about it.
Ladidalady10 03-08-2008, 08:53 AM There have been many sites that attempt to try and take your info away but im sure we all read the VMK Vaules and know better than to give it away ;) but sadly to others there info Has been taken :( we all must watch out for these type of websites where they say " give us your user and password and we will give you really super rare! " Please be on the look out VMK fellows and have a great day :)
~Find me on my VMK im AceStitchGirl
ParamoreGal 03-08-2008, 10:14 AM Thanks for the warning. I see to many people saying: " Oh he promised me 10000 credits but he just stole my stitch hat "
