With the recent surge of guests/newbies in VMK because of the iPod sweepstakes, there are more people than ever that need the guidance of the ever-loving VMK veterans. What I'm trying to get at is that there are a lot of new people that need help from people that have been in VMK for quite some time, Community Leader or not. Today, I remembered that help desks are useful to these newer players. With your aid, we can make my new VMK Help Desk a grand success. Here's a pic of the room (I apologize for the size. The image hosting service I used wouldn't allow the picture to be any bigger):

You may or may not have noticed what I was wearing. That's the uniform for the help desk. I couldn't find the shirt that I have on in the store, so if you don't have it, the long sleeve shirt will do just fine. You can wear any hat you please (if you choose to wear one at all). Here's a pic of the uniform:

Before you get all mad at me and say that I'm acting like a dictator, please give me a moment to explain why there is a uniform. This is to give the room a balanced, neat, and unified look. It really shows team spirit, as well, if you know what I mean. It shows that we're working together for a common goal -- to help out the newbs of VMK. That brings me to the slogan. I figured that having a catchy slogan would attract attention, so I came up with one:

Lighting the way for the new in VMK!

To go along with that theme, I put some lanterns by the door, if you didn't notice that in the picture.

I'm going to get on VMK as often as possible from now on. I'll only be able to do that after school, of course.

I can't do this by myself, obviously. I'd love it if you would volunteer to help out! With the accepting of CL applications beginning again tomorrow, if you'd like to show VMK how good at helping you are, then you should definitely sign up. If you're already a Community Leader, then if you have the time, this would be a good chance for you to help out your VMK community even more.

There aren't going to be any appointed hours, so if you volunteer, you won't have to feel restricted to a certain time period. If you see the room open, I'd appreciate it if you'd come and help me out. The grand opening will most likely be sometime this week, probably at nighttime.

Now, onto the signing up process. This is VERY important, so please read carefully.

Please put the following when signing up:

1. VMK name
2. Reason for volunteering
3. Times available for volunteering (This is only for me to know when to possibly expect you. If you aren't sure, just put "N/A")
4. Speciality (Example: If you're good at telling people the basic functions of VMK, just put "general overview." If you're good at giving directions on how to do things, such as navigating VMK, then put "direction giving." It's as easy as that! Just put what you're good at, and you'll be fine ^_^)

Okay, quickie thread rules -- PLEASE READ BEFORE POSTING:
1. Please do not spam or post anything purely off topic. If it isn't remotely involved with this post, please just find somewhere else to post it.
2. Any and all feedback is appreciated! Just post it or something if you like. I'm always looking to improve, so I'll take any criticism constructively, unless it's flaming, in which case the post will reported. By the way, flaming just makes you look bad, so it's utterly pointless to bother with it.
3. I'm not begging you to sign up, so if you don't want to, then don't. I'm not gonna keel over dead if I have to do this all on my own, but it's always fun to meet new people and have company while working. :)
4. Please do not quote the entire post! If you have done this, please fix your post as soon as you can. It massively stretches the screen, and it's a pain to scroll through what everyone has already read.
5. Please do not PM me about the help desk.
6. Read the other rules!

If you take any pictures of the volunteers in action, feel free to post them, and if you want, I'll put them in the next post.

This post is reserved for anything that might not fit on the first post, such as pictures, milestones, and updates. I'm not going to put all the milestones and/or updates in what might be considered a "complete sentence," but it's more in a note format (like what you might put when taking notes in class or when writing meeting minutes as a secretary).

((I really hope you don't mind the double post. . . .))

Important info here:

12-20-05: I apologize for not getting the room up and started sooner. I just haven't had much time lately, and I apologize. I had an orthodontist appointment yesterday, and a bracket on my braces was replaced, so my tooth really, really hurts. I'll open the room once I feel some better. Sorry for the delay!

Okay, I'll put any updates and milestones here:

Milestone #1 -- 11-30-05: The thread was posted! :)
Milestone #2 -- 12-1-05: The first four volunteers have properly signed up!

Update #1 -- 11-30-05: A new rule was added after the thread was posted. Please check the rules.
Update #2 -- 12-1-05: The first volunteers have been added to the list.
Update #3 -- 12-1-05: Signing up process instructions revised for easier posting. Quote box removed and simply put in red.
Update #4 -- 12-6-05: I have decided to stop posting on this fan site from now on, except on this thread. A good thing about this for any volunteers is that it will be easier to find my posts on this thread (All you have to do is click the thing that lets you see all my posts, and my posts here from now on will be at the very top of that list, thus making them easier to find; er, I hope that makes some amount of sense).

Um, please post the following information, because this is what I need:

And you kinda didn't even ASK if you could be manager. . . . There really isn't a way to have one other than myself, since it's my room, and it's physically impossible for anyone else to manage the room. . . . Your enthusiasism is appreciated though.

Wow, I am SUCH a flake:xmas35:. I haven't had much time lately, and I've got some big tests coming up soon. For more information, please see the second post (too lazy to type up again :Tongue:).

Anyway, I really do promise that I'll try and get this room running soon! :xmas11: This tree will attack me with its pine needles if I don't! I must obey the tree! This reindeer:xmas5:says that I can ride on it if I get it started by the end of Sunday. What incentive! See? I WILL get the help desk open soon! I promise!

Oh my gosh, I am SO sorry about the delay!! I'll do my best to get it started up on Tuesday. . . . I've had a lot of homework and stuff to do lately, and I haven't even had time to get on VMK (or here) for very long. *kicks self* I've got an exam tomorrow, but after that I'm done with school for 2005. . . .
