It took me about 750 something lol i had this thing that counts it and yes very random question And I though schmoofy was random! lol

In this mangazine i saw that a bunch of students tried to figure it out for some reason. I think their results was bewteen 200-300. It is an odd idea for a school project. :lol:

here's something interesting i found about this question:

During the 2nd semester of an engineering class at Purdue University,
they reported that their 'licking machine,' modeled after a human
tongue, took an average of 364 licks to get to the center of a
Tootsie-Pop. Then they tried to test 20 volunteers and found that it
took the volunteers and average of 252 licks. And then a chemical
engineering doctorate student from the University of Michigan recorded
that his licking machine required an average of 411 licks per Tootsie
Pop. Soon after that, a group of students at Swathmore School used
human lickers in a scientific experiment and determined it took an
average of 144 licks to get to the center of a Tootsie Pop. So there
are the results taken from the only 'official' Tootsie Pop licking
experiments. The problem we have is the distance of difference that
was encountered in our studies. But this is the reason for the major
difference in the higher and lower number.......you MUST remember the
overall surface area of everyone's tongue IS NOT the same and the
density of the papilla(taste buds) IS NOT the same in every person,
thus resulting in the difference in the number of licks!

Also, you have to take into consideration if you are like me or not. I slurp on the tootsie pop. I mean like I put my whole mouth on it and slurp. LOL. This is probably TMI for ya'll. LOL.

Ya i remember the comercial. But wouldn't hurt if you tried to crunch it after just three licks?

I remember seeing those commercials where the boy goes around asking the animals how many it takes, and they always end up eating it.

II have seen chermercials lol Mr.Owl how many licks does it take to get to the center of the tootsie pop let's find out a 1 a 2 a 3 CRUNCH!! -_-

LOL haven't you guys seen the commercial? There's like this owl guy and he licks it twice and then bites the whole thing off of the stick. It takes 3!

40..never bit it once when i was licking it an it worked..someone else tried and they got 40 too..at my school

LOL. In elementary school one of my best friends tried it and it took something like 821 licks (somethng like that). Of course she may have been taking little licks or something...

I've done it under 200 before. (My teeth hurt really bad after that)

I think somewhere around 170-190.

I had a small tootsie pop and got 114 licks until i hit chocolate, the licks thing is just a fancy way of saying the tootsie pop is so good that ppl have to bite them

ive done it, it was 246 for me! it took a while but i swear that is wat i got!

The number of licks depends on I think how long it's been in it's wrapper. I find that if I pull out a Tootsie Pop from a couple months back, it seems to be softer and easier to lick/bite, while I could go to the store, buy one, and it is extremely hard.

For best and most accurate results, i'd suggest going to the store and buying one, while they're in it's I guess you could say "intended" state.

I should do that as a science project..

take about 5-10 younger kids (5-8) get some older kids (9-12) then get some teens (13-16) and maybe some adults. Have them all count how many licks they do, then record, get an average and we should have a close estimate! I guess.

My mom told me that she's going to have our youth group experiment with how many licks it takes to get to the center...

Funny story at school with tootsie pops..
When I was in first day on the 100th day of school our teacher gave tootsie pops to see who had closes to 100 licks.
Results: All people said they had 100 except 1 person.
