I would say if you are looking please check the SPCA or rescue a dog like a greyhound. I have rescued all my life, not just greyhounds. Sometimes we look for the oldest dog in the shelter cause they are the quikest to be put down. And some people want a puppy, but the knowledge that you saved the dogs life is (in my opinion) never forgotten by the dog. And that more than makes up for them not being a puppy.

Can't go wrong with man's best friend! Dogs do everything, Cats on the other hand, they do nothing but lick themselves.

to me, it depends on how willing you are to dedicating yourself to taking care of a pet. here's my suggestions:

1. don't have too much time to care for a pet-fish (make sure to clean tank or it can get very smelly)

2. willing to dedicate some time-cats (but it may be a pain to always clean out the litter box)

3. totally dedicated-dogs (it's true that it takes ALOT of responsibility to take care of them. exercising and cleaning up after them are probably the top two hardest things about having dogs, but they truly do make great companions :))

Everyone goes for the cats, dogs, birds... I like exotic! I'm seriously thinking about getting a chinchila (sp?) or a sugar glider. I also like this kind of monkey thats small.. Ok you probably don't want those. They take a little more work. If you want a dog- that takes a LOT of work, trust me! A cat- put out food, clean the litter box, and your done. Fish- ( I have tons) Feed 'em, clean their tanks once in a while.. thats really it. Hamsters! Hamsters are the cutest thing on the face of the earth! (sometimes! lol) :) They need water, food, a clean cage, and if you have a wheel in their cage, they don't need to be taken out and put in a ball ( to exorsise)

I love cats so much . . . dad is allergic. :(

SnowPrince, I agree with u all the way. Get them from the Rescue Center and give the oldest a good life before it gets put down.

On the other hand, I love (sorry heart) cats. I used to have two but only 1 now. Mine does not use a litter box we just let it outside(we are in the UK so it is not as warm).

I also have two fish and we just clean them out every week so i like them too!:nemosmile

We found my dog Bear.Well he found us more like :)

My favorite is a dog :) Although he gets stuck in the wires behind my computer and I am forced to pull him out and he is still gripping the floor, he is a great companion who keeps my family and I company :)
