View Full Version : Impersonating Community Leaders ~ VMK's Future?
BandGeek 07-13-2005, 05:16 AM  Already, people are ruining the fun of the VMK Community Leaders, by impersonating them. Already tonight, the day of the CL's being released, I come across Captainess, a green girl in the Music Party. I knew what to look for to find a CL so when I asked if anyone had seen a CL, Captainess jumped to say "I'm a community leader, how can I help you?" Already, I knew that she was a faker, because of her lack of CL badge and her lack of CL_ before her name. Also she was a tad rude if you ask me, she showed off her Storm Pin, rudely asking " If I weren't a Community Leader, could I do this?" So, being the competetive girl I am, instantly started my Storm power and said, "Um, I highly doubt it" (or something along those lines, I'm to furious to remember) Then, she tried the invisibility pin on me, asking the same question. I seiously stink at the games, so I shot back with "I haven't gotten that great at Pirates yet." So she goes on about how to beat the game, in a very kindergarten-esque manner, and finishes with "Any other questions?" This made me really mad, so I reported her, and told them of her bad behavoir. Then she started getting very stuck up, giving random tips, like "In the Fireworks Game, it is easy to win if you use the arrow keys and the mouse." and also "Pirates is eaisly beatable if you use the mouse."
~ I know that she might have been trying her best to help, but doing it in a random, rude way is wrong, ESPECIALLY while impersonating a Community Leader. Just wanted to let you know of things maybe to come from the New People and the jealous Old Ones.
GBShorts 07-13-2005, 05:21 AM I was afraid this was going to happen. I just didn't realize it would be so fast. It's true, you don't have to have the CL before your name to help but to claim to BE one... sigh.
BandGeek 07-13-2005, 05:28 AM Its terrible, because she was also telling innocent, unknowing people lies about credits and stuff, so I was so angry. So when I was talking to her (and I must admit, I said some pretty snotty things) she just out of the blue goes "Can't TinatheLlama just go away?" I almost virtual - punched her lights out. But that must have been a clue to the people that are gullible enough to beleive her in the first place that she is/was a fake! I certainly hope so.
This is incredibly sad, especially since many new players would most likely believe them. People pretending to be CL's has so much potential for a scam, its not even funny.
sonofshine 07-13-2005, 06:27 AM very sad...but my hopes are high that this will stop when ppl notice community leaders have CL_***** in their names :)
BandGeek 07-13-2005, 12:51 PM Thats what I said, sonofshine. I don't think that these self-elected ''Community Leaders" will stop, even though they're playing in a huge scam, that most people will recognize them after a few days, if the CL's are easy to find and recognize.
greenhpper 07-13-2005, 12:58 PM She gives green girls everywhere a bad name :P
BandGeek 07-13-2005, 12:59 PM lol, I know people are looking at this thread, could you guys post your opinions? I think it would be rather helpful, Thank you!
AdventureKid 07-13-2005, 01:44 PM I think you did right! :) She shouldn't of been doing what she was doing. I would
of done the same thing. :)
Mickey_Dude 07-13-2005, 01:48 PM  What a Brat!how she dishoners VMK makes me sick!I hope she gets banned!
greenhpper 07-13-2005, 01:55 PM My :twocents: I don't think it will stop. There are dozens (or more) new users registered and playing everyday. They do not know their way around, the scams, how to play, or even use the tool bar at the bottom. Kids don't always read how to play (insert men and directions joke here ..jk), they just jump in and they are the ones these fake CL are going to prey on. Even if fake CL leaders were added as a scam alert on the cummunity page I think it's highly unlikely that most ppl will see it. Therefore it is up to us upstading VMK citizens and proper CL leaders to protect the young and innocent from these vile creatures. :shifty:
bragoandcheri 07-13-2005, 02:52 PM Kids don't always read how to play (insert men and directions joke here ..jk), they just jump in and they are the ones these fake CL are going to prey on.
normally i read the directions when i'm stuck in a game (probably reason why i stink at them  ) but then the fake CL are one of the most terrible people in the the whole world. but then as Kira from MARS says The world is full of selfish people and there's nothing you can do to save it. No matter how well you hide it, selfishness seeps out slowly. Spreading its awful stench and that is the most true thing ever. you can't save the world from selfishness. i mean sure you can ban the person but they will be on again looking for more prey.
GreatGatsby 07-13-2005, 02:52 PM If you see anyone impersonating a Community Leader, whether they are giving bad information or not, you should inform a cast member immediately.
This kind of thing simply should not be tolerated.
Mickey_Dude 07-13-2005, 02:53 PM good point
MissAmber 07-13-2005, 03:04 PM I hope this does not sound too mean what I am about to say but, I personally HATE the new people coming in. They are ruining the fun of VMK and turning it into stuff like boyfriend/girlfriends, personating, and being plain mean! None of them even give a hay about disney! It is so sad. I wish staff or CL would moniter this stuff. (I'm not saying your slacking off, I know you are doing a great job somewhere else, CL's!) I'm saying maybe we need more staff or CL.

Agree as I might, MissAmber, the rules are very clear the Community Leaders have no powers. CLs can't stop this type of thing. You need to focus your thoughts on the Cast Members in this case.
And that means this is Off Topic. OOPS!! :)

GreatGatsby has a wonderful point! I really couldn't have said it better myself. I had been trying to think of a way to say that, and that is really the best way. And it's true. It really shouldn't be tolerated. I help people out, but I never claim to be a Community Leader. Usually people don't ask for help after that, but whatever. It's horrible to impersonate someone of importance and to get newcomers to believe you. Many newcomers really need help, and to pretend you are someone else, in this case a CL, is awful, and just shouldn't be done. I personally think that anyone who does that should be banned immediately. And, hopefully, after people start getting banned, the impersonations will cease, and we won't have people like that poisoning VMK. :cat1:
DarkKnightCecil 07-13-2005, 03:20 PM I remember before the thousands of people came when maybe only 300-700 people were online, there were no boy/girlfriends, armys, or any of these other things the new comers are doing to what used to be so clean.
Fraisie 07-13-2005, 03:28 PM Well i've been playing since the beginning and there has always been gf/bf thing
skies 07-13-2005, 03:34 PM i really don't like when people pretend to be something they're not.
FlyThenFall 07-13-2005, 03:46 PM These things are horrible but...it goes to show you what type of world we live in doesn't it?
Let's not focus on how bad people are getting...and how it was "so much better in the past." I'd say we keep looking to the future and think of solutions for this behavior.
If anything...if any CL is on and someone's doing this. Send them off a message quick (telling them someone's impersonating a CL) and they'll come by in a jiffy to set the person straight. Suppose we start a list of other ways to stop problems in VMK without reporting someone the minute they starting doing something bad.
PS: Seeing as I've never had to report anyone and I made CL, I'm thinking VMK doesn't hold a special place in their heart for people that do report others all the time. Just a little food for though, for our friends who go on reporting sprees.

AAAHHHHHH. Those were the days.
Captainess 07-13-2005, 10:32 PM I am so sorry to all who were in the Street Party Room yesterday night, especially to the originator of this thread. I let my friend use my character last night and he made those comments and impersonated a CL...he was joking but I know posing as a CL is not a joking matter. It is my fault that I allowed others to use my character and for that, I sincerely apologize. I feel so bad...if you know me, I am not a bad person. I don't chat that often on VMK and when I do, it is never to offend other players. I frequent this forum often but have never posted...I felt I had to clear my name. I love VMK and Disney..I will not let this happen again...my apologies again.
Miss MeowsALot 07-13-2005, 10:35 PM Np. But But is was mostly his fault for doing it
nicedude 07-14-2005, 01:48 AM I was in the room at the time..i remember the situation. I think there's a fine line between joking around & taking things way too seriously. I saw that captainess was rambling on about this or that (something about stepping on the blue square in fantasyland..) No one was really paying attention to her except for Llamagirl. I thought it was pretty humorous actually that captainess was trying to be the life of the party and did not think a second thought about it at all. Just like at the real Disneyland, i think if we constantly report people about trivial things like how "FlyThenFall" posted: I'm thinking VMK doesn't hold a special place in their heart for people that do report others all the time it begins to make Annual Pass holders look bad, likewise with regulars who play VMK who post complaints about something that can be disregarded. [side note: APer's who complain about paint off a statue...give cityhall a break please..] I'm not saying what captainess did was wrong, but really, it's not like she was some evil person looking to prey the next target like someone else said here..that's stretching it way too far. You have characters on VMK doing stuff like, be my boyfriend/girlfriend or Top Model for virtual characters...pretending to be someone you're not is what we're all doing already with VMK. Problem with interacting on the internet is that people can be anyone who they portray themselves to be. Anytime you willingly participate in multiplayer games, there's always the given that people are going to deviate from things that you think is normal or appropriate. In any case, looks like captainess has been playing for a while with all the pins/skills she's won; im glad she came to this forum to clear things up. As for others who posted flaming comments, don't be so quick to judge. kudos.
Bezoar 07-14-2005, 02:53 AM (..snip..) I let my friend use my character last night and (..snip..)
Umm, you do realize that in the list of VMK rules, this is explicitly forbidden? So it's probably not wise to post that you did it?
Becky 07-14-2005, 02:57 AM Welcome to the site nicedude. And u aren't allowed to post flaming comments, it's against the vmkforums rules to flame anyhow, where do u see flaming?

Thanks for the welcome =)
Flaming, the word itself is in the grey zone of internet lingo, ranging from derogatory comments, the use of capital words, hate of some sort whether it be direct/indirect, expressing opinions using degrading tones and syntax, and even sandbagging someone as well..it's grey zone b/c it comes under the line of expressing personal opinion as well. A common fallacy is that flaming only involves 1) someone using all capital letters in their entire post 2) single out race, ethnicity, gender, sexuality, etc.

Welcome from me as well, nicedude.
I like your notes here on flaming. You will find, as you continue to contribute to this forum, that there is a lot of flaming that goes on, and the moderators like me try to catch it whenever possible and nip it in the bud.
We run up against two major obsticles: first is the awful balance between free speech and derrogation, and that's a tough nut to crack.
Second is you'll find a few members here who will totally deny that a personal attack is an attack and that a flame is a flame ("it's a reply" "I was explaining" "I was defending myself" "I'm only doing what so-and-so was doing"). So while I like your comments on flaming -- and agree -- not everyone here does for one reason or another.
But if you see anything you consider flaming, notify us right away. You can click on the ! in the red triangle at the top right of every post, and the VMK Forum moderators are e-mailed the information. You can also PM any specific moderator (if we're online, our names are in pink -- yes, pink -- or you can find a list of Moderators on the home page on the right under Forum Leaders) and that Mod should be able to help.
:)
darthmatt 07-14-2005, 03:28 PM the community leaders dont want to be followed and annoyed so you shouldn't be crazy on them
BandGeek 07-15-2005, 04:03 AM This thread has turned into a massacre of rules against rules, so if a moderator with the power doesn't mind, could they delete this thread please?
