View Full Version : Adults and Parents in VMK
tigressjewel 07-12-2005, 10:13 PM As an adult (and mom) and disney fanatic who is hooked on VMK, I'd like to find out how many others like me there are playing. I ran into a couple of adults yesterday while I was playing and it was nice! One of them I think is a member of this forum, but he must not be using the same name here as in VMK, because I didn't see him on the member list. I discovered VMK before my kids did, and introduced them to it. Its great fun to be on with them. Its also very comforting to me when I know they are playing on VMK that they are safe. I'm glad I'm familiar with exactly how the game works from playing it myself. I have the impression that there might be a few kids who are weirded out by adults playing alongside them. I'd love to hear from kids and adults alike on this topic. I'd also LOVE to add some of the adults to my friends list, so if you see me on VMK, please say hi!
Now.. lets make some maaagiiccc!
MisterToad 07-12-2005, 10:19 PM There are lots of adults in VMK and here in the forums. You might be interested in this thread (http://www.vmkforums.com/forums/showthread.php?t=286).
GBShorts 07-12-2005, 10:22 PM Well, since that other thread didn't make a lot of sense to me, I'll go ahead and reply here.
I'm an adult. :) I think.
I WAS hooked on VMK but right now I'm having second thoughts about my addiction. :) Nice to mee you.
Oh, and FWIW my nickname is the same at VMK.
echo42 07-12-2005, 10:24 PM i too am an adult who plays :)
while i wouldnt say im addicted, if i could actually get the stupd thing to let me log in more often i probably would become addicted :P
SallySally 07-12-2005, 10:29 PM I'm a Mom, and I began playing VMK when my online-game-obsessed friend, also a Mom, sent me the link. My husband also plays, as well as my two sons, ages 9 and 11. I have also met several other adult players, a few of which have children, but none that I knew had their own children playing (my friend's daughter is only 4).
My husband and I play VMK with the boys sometimes, but they like to play alone as well, so we let them do their own thing. I have noticed when I say something about "my kid" or "I'm old" in VMK, some of the kids in the game get weird. I've had kids tell me "You're sick! You play a kid's game!" One little girl who had added me to her friends list because I was helping her find hidden Mickeys, realized that I am older, and asked me very shyly (and probably worried) "Why do you want to be my friend?"
I would really like to add another Mom to my friends list. I don't know any other Moms with kids who play in VMK. My name is the same as here... SallySally.
Greetings and salutations! Well, I'm a kid, though I do qualify as teen, yet I believe that is too specific. Anyways, I'm "addicted" to VMK, though that last update really did a number on me. I don't feel the least bit uncomfortble with VMKers that are adults. Infact, I believe they even out the social order. I prefer hanging out with a older group, mostly because they are more like me. I don't use terms such as Bling, nor greet people with Yo. Also, another reason why this doesn't creep me out is that I've been playing Toontown every since day one, and I've met some very helpful adult players. They're kind and considerate to others.
Anyways, there's my two cents! My VMK name is in my sig, and I guess I'll catch you on the digital side! ;)
Roxane 07-12-2005, 10:39 PM I'm an adult. I've lived near WDW my whole life, so of course I'm loving this game :)
MrGenie 07-12-2005, 10:40 PM There are lots of adults in VMK and here in the forums. You might be interested in this thread (http://www.vmkforums.com/forums/showthread.php?t=286).Thank you, MisterToad...your mission may prove to be unaccomplished, but a noble effort nonetheless. ;)
Ahem...I'd post my comments here, but I already posted them in the thread MisterToad linked...
figmentt 07-12-2005, 10:42 PM Nope.. You are not alone at all! Several of my adult (?) friends and I are hooked as well. My husband produces games for a living, so I guess I am a little predisposed to the addiction. Eventually,
I may need to seek out a support group. :)
Its great being a kid at heart, which is probably why I love Disney so much to begin with!
:wave2:
Bezoar 07-12-2005, 10:43 PM Old person here too, with very young kids.
I find that I often congregate with other older players, and we do boring things like sit in rooms and make fun of one another.
Our motto is "Old, lame, and proud" :)
Jaina 07-12-2005, 10:48 PM :mickeymo: I'm a new poster, though I've been lurking (and devouring) this forum for several weeks. I'm a (younger) adult, and married, but without kids yet. I'm an avid Disney fan and have been to Disneyland over 10 times and WDW once. If I showed my dad this game he would probably like it (at least at first) because he's obsessed with Disneyland. :) Hope to start talking to some of you that I already know well (though you've never heard of me!) My nick is the same as my username. :mickeymo:
captain_dl 07-12-2005, 10:49 PM I too am a parent who plays VMK. My son told me about it when they were teasing it on Radio Disney. We never let him play ToonTown because of the monthly fee (He is not a huge gamer). So when he heard VMK was free he asked me to look into it. He loves it when I am on my wireless laptop in the living room and he is in the den on the desktop and we meet in VMK. He always shows me his friends rooms and he loves it when I let him invite his friends to my coffin choice room for some coffin guessing fun (I never got the nerve to open it up to the public - too much work running and organising it). We have not gotten Mom on the VMK bandwagon yet. She is more of a card and puzzle gamer. Not into social games. Maybe one day... My name in VMK is in my sig file (MickeysBuddy). :wave2:
greenhpper 07-12-2005, 11:05 PM I've posted my reply in the afore mentioned thread. :D p.s. Look at how VMK characters speak, often it's a reflection of their age.
tigressjewel 07-12-2005, 11:53 PM Thank you MrToad for the link to the other thread. I chose kid in an adult body too (or something like that). My husband commented at dinner the other night that there is more to life than disney. I was in shock all night. I'm still not over it! How could he burst my bubble like that? lol
I agree that its pretty easy to pick out the adults and kids from the conversations, at least for adults it is. Yesterday a player approached another player, telling them how cute they were and "are you taken" etc.. Seconds later this player went from cute to disgusting when it was revealed he was (well) over 18. LOL I'm happy to know what I suspected, that there are plenty of adults playing along with me. Again, please say hi to me when you see me in VMK. I'll be looking for you too!
Foustketeer 07-13-2005, 12:10 AM I am all for adults in VMK. My mom plays it too and I was the one that encouraged her to sign up. If we didn't have adults, then who would monitor us during the game? I mean most of the CM's can't be kids. So there is a need for adults in this game.
Maleficent2 07-13-2005, 01:27 AM everyday....so much so DS hardly ever gets game time, time for a high speed connection!!!!
Mal
Maltoo on VMK
bluefroo 07-13-2005, 01:29 AM I'm an adult as well. I'm still young by many standards but I'm engaged to be married in a short while. :)
wenyeva 07-13-2005, 01:35 AM As some have probably guessed, I'm an adult as well. :)
tina_als_girl 07-13-2005, 04:27 AM Yeah, I'd be a young adult on summer vacation from college, so VMK is a great way to cure summer boredom...
Joy
stunrut 07-13-2005, 04:36 AM I keep hearing that people are calling me an adult behind my back but don't you believe it! I may be 38 but I'm no adult.
I found VMK and introduced my wife to it. Then we got our son involved. We all love it!
Rogie 07-13-2005, 05:35 AM Yeah, I'd be a young adult on summer vacation from college, so VMK is a great way to cure summer boredom...
Joy
So true, so true.
But people tell me I'm a 40 year-old trapped in a 21 year-old body. A 21 year-old body with a penchant for catroons. So try explaining that.
Indychick 07-13-2005, 08:07 AM Uh....I'm...shall we say...old. That is all. (Creaks as she attempts to stand to change her depends)
alice 07-13-2005, 09:50 AM My youngest child is 23 years old. ('Nuff said! ;)) If I take a while to answer you in the game, I'm not really completely dimwitted; I just don't type as fast as some of you young'ns. (Who are very nice people, I might add.)
jtwras 07-13-2005, 09:53 AM I am the mother of two girls. They both play vmk, either alone or with me (on my lap).
I introduced three of my friends, who are Moms, to vmk and they love it! I have found lots of other Moms and a few Dads too on vmk, as well as other married adults.
We love to chat and play games and just hang out :)
Come and find me sometime! It will be fun to add new friends!
Jtwras = Jennitwr on vmk
My room = Celebration of Characters (formerly Tea Cup Game Room)
kiriv 07-13-2005, 11:08 AM yet another Disney Mom and VMK addict. I have 5 kids, 3 of them play VMK. I have two sisters, and one brother who play, about 5 neices and nephews who play, and on top of that my mom and dad play. I am... we'll say well into my third decade on this rock, and contrary to what some kids on the game have told me. I don't consider myself old. I've only been around the sun a little more than 30 times, and I plan on going around much more than that.
I would like to find some friends who are parents, I have made several great friends on the game, but am starting to feel a little like a flat tire on the bike. There is quite an age difference in my little circle of friends, and I am getting the feeling they are ready for me to find some friends my own age. I think I am cramping their style.
Oh well.
Keep your eyes out for me, cause I am really bad at remembering names. :)
look forward to seeing you in the game.
Heartsdown 07-13-2005, 11:13 AM I am a young adult on summer vaction from first year of college will have seen two decades in life in a few months and lady diva you arent cramping my style your are one of my best friends in the game you are the coolest  :wave2:
snuggie 07-13-2005, 02:26 PM adult here
and mydaughter plays the game as well. Sometimes separate or together--there is always an adult around whenshe is on. We have taught her to call an adult if something gets out of hand. ( the mean thing)
Dizznygrl 07-13-2005, 04:18 PM Hi! I'm a Mom too, but my "Baby" is twenty-one. He won't even go to the Park with me any more, let alone play the game, although he does sometimes watch over my shoulder, trying to be cool. I'm a Disney Vacation Club member and Annual Passholder. And it's exactly one hour from my driveway to the front gate of the Magic Kingdom.
One of the things I've found interesting is how hard it is to tell the age of a player sometimes. It's pretty clear that the Models and Cheerleaders are tween girls, but a lot of the game-savvy guys could be ten to ninety!
(BTW, I tried to start a room poking fun named HAUNTED MODEL CHEERLEADERS GET WED, but the name was too long).
Disney: Not just for kids!
AdventureKid 07-13-2005, 04:34 PM Wow! There are way more adults here then there are kids! I've never noticed that. :)
Tinklover 07-13-2005, 04:41 PM I am only a teen but I am so adicted to VMK. I am smart for my age but about everyone on VMKfansite.com is way older than me. I don't care what age you are and are glad other parents are playing to because if my mom ever wanted to see if I was on VMK I made her a account just in case. Plus I like knowing that no matter how old I get I can still play VMK. :woohoo:
greenhpper 07-13-2005, 04:45 PM OffT: Adults tend to be the ones in forums more since they are not monitored as much. Also, feedback tends to be slower. Kids like the instant repsonse/gratification of chat more so then the tediousness of posting and waiting for replys. Think about their attention spans.
OnT: I mentioned to VMK staff at WDW,FL that we play VMK together as a family. They thought it was great (we use it as our "family game night") and even gave us a couple extra cards (pin and posters nothing major). :D

Thats very true.

That sounds cool! :)
Mickey_Dude 07-13-2005, 04:54 PM That is true :)
ebbie 07-13-2005, 08:09 PM According to the law, I'm an adult, but people do wonder. Especially when my friend and I have to go ride the giant rocking horse at the ren faire. lol
My only kid is a furbaby. :pluto:
Chedstro 07-13-2005, 08:11 PM I am also an adult with adult children. My daughter is in the electronic games biz and has given me some insight into how the mmp games work. I guess I should go to VMK Anonymous for help; but I'm having too much fun.
I have met some great adults and kids on VMK and hope to meet more. My sig makes it pretty clear that I'm old.
(Coriander in the game)
shiregirl 07-13-2005, 10:46 PM I may need to seek out a support group. :)Heehee: You can actually find such a group here, if you are really interested.
I am a kid-at-heart who loves Disney and games. I tried to get my mom to play last night, but she was not having any of it! <sigh> Oh well, that would have been cool...
