A Chernabog is the name of the fierce demon from the "Night On Bald Mountain" sequence in Disney's masterpiece "Fantasia" (1940). As Ollie Johnston and Frank Thomas relate in their 1993 book, "The Disney Villain," the creature was created by Disney Animator Vladmir "Bill" Tytla. The winged devil was based on the Black God of Slavonic mythology (which some references say may have originally been spelled 'Chernobog' before Disney settled on the name which is displayed on all current merchandise). I read something similar to that once. He was described as a Yugoslavian God which struck me because I am originally from Yugoslavia. The phrase "Chorni-bok" is loosly translated as "Magic Gog" or "God of Magic". Found this interesting as well.

Oh yes...Modest Mussgorsky. Quite awesome, if I must say so myself. The Chernabog is my FAVORITE villian...as scary or even scarier than the Evil Queen of Snow White and Maleficent of Sleeping Beauty!

I hear ya, Lunatix. I really wished people would credit their sources once in a while.

Anyways, Chernabog is the grand-daddy of all villians. He's not a villian so much as he is the embodiment of evil. With an army of dead by his side, there's no Disney Villian that matches up to this guy. He's pure, 100% unleaded diabolical evil.

PS: And for those who don't know, Mickey squared off with Chernabog in "Fantasmic!". Chernaog was empowered with all the forces of darkness from all the different villians in the Dinsey Universe. Mickey barely won. :)
