Who you play as? I'm a Lucas kind of guy myself. Loved his game. Played like a novel. Amazing story. Plus him being a strong fighter helps too. Hate the way they portrayed him as in SSE but I guess he is kind of like that in the begining of the MOTHER3. Its understandable if you ever play the game.

unfortunately, never played mother or earthbound, but I play the best with Lucas (just realized that after spending like the first 2 months not having a main... i beat my friend using Lucas, who's had the game for about a year.. so..)

And to fix your connection, make sure to turn off all laptops and exit out as many programs as you can on your desktop. And if possible, change your router/USB to channel 11.

I thought whoever created the room set the rules. I never saw any items (other than Diddy's peels). To be honest with you, though, I like playing with items set on Low. Maybe not all the time, but I mean, that's what sets Smash Brothers apart; it's part of the game, part of the strategy, just like anything else. Makes things more interesting. If all you want is a straight fighting game, there are probably better ones than SB.

Anyway, I guess you're engaged in some hot Marth-on-Marth action right now. It was fun while it lasted. :icon6m:

to be honest, i like the items too, makes things fun and interesting, but i think the smash ball is kinda cheap, and.. idk ruins the flow, cuz everyone starts going after it LOL

As far as the items go, I can't say I really care what they do in official tournaments. I play for fun and I think items can potentially enhance the experience. Don't get me wrong, I agree that "no-items" is the surest way to judge pure fighting skill, but to me, Smash Brothers has never been about pure fighting skill. It should be a little more fun, a little more loose. Especially when you play online, and you never know what level of competitor you're gonna be up against, it's a good way to level the playing field. Plus, the variables keep it fresh; give it an element of surprise. Anyway, I do like playing rounds without items, as well. Even when I have items on, they're always set to "Low". Anything more than that really does get absurd.

The reason items were included was to give it a new spin, make it fresh, keep people on their toes, and to level the playing field so more people can enjoy the experience. That's what Nintendo does. That said, I completely respect you not wanting to play with items. That's why they give you the option. I also agree that items can be annoying, especially when set above anything other than "Low". I don't like playing with them every time, either. I like the difference between the styles and strategy.

I do think it's pretty stupid the way some people get so upset about them, though. It's a game. Roll with the punches. The items give you a better chance at a more even match, because again, they're good at leveling the field. You might enjoy uncontested beat-down after beat-down, but I guess I'd rather have a closer, more competitive match, and when you don't know who you're going up against, items are a good way to keep it close, no matter what.

Going back to our first match, I'm just telling you what I saw. Could be I'm mistaken. It's not a big deal. Either way, I already gave you your props. You're a master of the blade. Congratulations. I wouldn't mind playing you again, but I don't have anything to prove. I'm there for fun.

I'll give you a great explain of how messed up items are.
Ken Vs CPU.

(Ken is the King of Melee)

He plays this guy CPU in Brawl, normally in tournaments items are off, in this brawl tourney they weren't. Ken clearly only lost because of items, they're just too cheap. They can give huge advantages.

I understand what you're saying, but if you were "competitive" with Brawling, you'd understand why people hate items.

Oh, and my favorite item..? I guess it'd have to be the banana peel from my "standard spamming Diddy" since I use him a lot. Some people may think it's cheap, but it balances out his ridiculously weak smash-attacks. It's fun being the agitator. Other than that, I like the Assist Trophies and the Smash Balls. Again, it's important to set things like this on LOW, because they should only pop up sparingly, but I like how the Trophies invite characters from other games into the mix (and I love Nintendo nostalgia) and I like how the Smash Balls give everyone their own creative specialty. It stinks when you're on the losing end, but it's also exciting knowing there could be a game changer floating out there at any second. I actually hope they come up with more Smash Ball attack options per character, if they end up making another one. While we're at it, more taunts, too. Customizable taunts would be awesome.

LOL i hate the assist trophy with resetti though. he keeps talking and talking and talking-- and oh you did? yeah i was up late playing with candy. was like 2:30 AM. LOL
