Well I think you can if you modify everything, clean the pictures, and make them look different, im not sure tho. But I do know that you absolutely can NOT make vmk all over again making it look exactly the same, unless Disney gave you permossion.

Well, I am going to try to convince Disney the rights of VMK to me. If I can't get the rights to it. I am going to create my own then.

Well let me say that theres like a 95% chance that they will ask for hard cold cash...And dont forget paying for alll the staff members. And game people..like the peoplw who will come up for new month themes, new items, new rules...all that fun stuff ^^

Think about how much money you're going to have to pay. And VMK is owned by Disney and Sulake, unless you know how to zap up kazillion dollars, then we can either have it, or get sued. which ever is better :P

There's was around all the copyrights and trade marks. It'd be risky and it'd take A LOT of time and effort. Not too mention, probably a whole ton of expertise on the subject of web design and such. We could honestly do it though. My teacher who I'm good friends with is a lawyer in that kind of field so I could ask him about it. We really honestly could though. It's just a matter of time, patience, and knowledge. And money to a certain degree.

Although the VMK site is gone, disney has the rights to disney things.

If you just changed the color of a disney room, it'd be disney.

Basically the problem here is that recreating VMK will lead to you getting sued. Essentially what you would be making is a private server of VMK, which breaches intellectual property rights, and legal action would be taken against you.

Your best bet would be to make a game similar to VMK, but not actually use the same exact content (recoloring still counts are Disney content). If you do that, without using anything that's actually Disney, it'd fall under fair use and you'd be able to do that without getting sued.

No. The site being gone or not isn't relevant. Disney owns all of the content that was in VMK and the content that was on their website whether the site is there or not.

No. Just because you may not make money off if it automatically means you can do anything with recreating and it being legal. It just means you're not making money off of it.

On the contrary, it can resemble VMK as much as you want. You just can't have all of the Disney things in it because you'll run into copyright issues.

Well, you could give a global theme and FGK ( fantasy global Kingdom ).

I'll host, test, come up with ideas, design rooms items and such(can't make the room and items tho) Just about anything I could do.

Well... I'm not so sure that you could make your own, because all of VMK belongs to Disney. The closest I've seen today is ***** - it's a place of memories of VMK, where you click enter and there you are - at the start page with all the lands listed! You can click on anything and go to that room. You can't make a character though, or chat; anything that you get involved with. Check it out!

That's a good question. From my point of view, there are a few games out there that have attempted to "Copy" VMK's gameplay. If one specific site has Disney's permission, and has made sure of taking out any copyrighted Disney work - why not? If Disney still owns the name "VMK", then they have power over what can happen with it.

You would obviously not be able to use the name "VMK", though.

Other sites have attempted to re-make VMK but Disney have given the straight answer "no". It's not possible to use their graphics, hence why VFK could make the game and the rest couldn't.

If you think you have the immense coding and graphics ability, by all means try it - but my personal opinion is that nobody will get very far with it.

Well, I know of one right now that has worked out the copyright stuff and is making a VMK remake.
It's legally sound and is actually opening Beta in July.
The game's roughly 85% complete.
They just need three more key files.

i think that like changing things in rooms and such would make it ok. i mean anyone see the room in vfk that looks like exactly like the mad hatter tea party room from vmk? and they basically copied the name too (vfk vmk.. big resemblance :)) anyways i think this is a great idea and i would love to be staff or something

It could work. But obviously no it won't. Your better off making it in a online building game, like ROBLOX.

Ok I have wanted this project into the next level, and now it is! Those staff requests are still ACTIVE so keep asking! Now, we need some concept art up and running. Why can't all of US take this project forward? WE NEED THIS TO HAPPEN AND I MEAN IT!!! I want VMK back, you want VMK back, but we need one built! We just need an option. If you remade it fro yourself you'd be fine but there's no way you'd be able to release your remake to the public unless you got Disney's permission (which I'm sad to say would probably be impossible).

Hate to break it to you but you'd need a HUGE development team to be able to recreate something even close to VMK and not to mention the fact that you'd need to invest billions in order to suceed in making it a reality.

Hello, I have been in coding for a couple years now.
I have hosted and coding a few private servers, and played thousands
A. "Disney" is registered. so it can't have disney, nor things from disney.
B. In Disney HQ, it isn't fun and games. They are in it for the money.
C. Disney payed hundreds of thousands on a staff to code every single file, they aren't just going to hand over the files to a bunch of kids who want to remake a game.
D. Even if you did manage to figure out how to code everything, you would get shut down in days.
E. I mean no offence to anyone, but in order to get a 'responsible' staff, you can't just pick random kids who say they will help.

I mean no offence, but it isn't worth it.
