View Full Version : Enlighten me here...

I thought of this a bit this morning:

Disney claims that a big reason VMK is closing due to the fact they want to re-allocate developers to future games. Okay, I suppose that's an adequate excuse and all to Yavn and the QA's disappearing, but...

Why close the whole game due to this? From the sound of it, the VMK_'s and HOST_'s didn't know it was closing any earlier than us (Perhaps even later!), so, instead of closing VMK, why not just let the VMK_'s and HOST_'s continue moderating VMK, move the developers wherever, and have the dev team pop in every now and then on the Holidays to release new items, just like back in the ol' days? I would most certainy be fine having less item releases if that meant... y'know... keeping the game open.

I dunno. It doesn't seem to make sense to me. Anyone smarter than me care to enlighten?

I completely understand.. But if they did that then more people would start complaining about stuff not coming out.

I agree with both of you, Lord, yours did make sense its just like Sky said more people would complain because of less stuff. But if the people are new maybe they would not know about "new" stuff coming out. Either way I just want VMK to stay.

Or they could just release all that good stuff in hosts rooms that they haven't released yet :)

Money. In the end splitting the work like that would be a loss for Disney. It would also be a loss to the guests, due to the facts stated in previous posts.

if they did start a pay for play then they would have to keep developers on VMK, to keep software updates and in-game products going. that translates into those people not being able to be moved onto another game. if that happened, then they would have to hire more people as developers. Disney would pay out more money in the end, or possibly break even. no business wants to just break even. if you look at how many games are out now, then add on another, maybe two. that is a lot of online games requiring a lot of time and manpower, not just to run the games day to day. equipment, space, advertising the whole works. plus a large amount of pay to play games MAY reduce the numbers in each game. how many people would pay to be a part of several of these games? ask your parent to pay $14.95 two or three times, every six months. that is a lot of money, that i doubt a lot of parents would pay. it really does come down to dollars and cents, i'm sorry if i'm being devils advocate here.

I think that Disney's other online games are not doing well right now (Toontown and POTCO). So how do you get more people there for free? You just close an online game and tell everyone in that game to go to another. They're seeing it as a free way to get more people and move the staff to another online game.
