View Full Version : Walt's Opinion on VMK? What would he think

I just had one of my genious thoughts pop into my head and I have decided to share it with you guys. The question I have been thinking about is if Walt Disney would really be satisfied with VMK overall. Is it really a place of magic and wonder on the internet, or just a cheap rip off of the true Disney experience, the Disney park.

I mean, from what I have seen in the past 10 months I have spent on VMK, there has just been complaining, complaining, and guess what, even more complaining. VMK is also a game of value, the game where the richer player dominates, the more powerful player dominates, and makes the newer player look bad. At Disneyland or any other Disney park, it doesn't matter if you are rich or poor, young or old, or pretty much anything under the sun, you will always be accepted for who you are which is what makes the trip to a Disney park a magical experience.

Walt would definitly not be happy with the competitive aspect that VMK has brought to the table so that is a strike. I am also sure that he would hate the disrespect that a good amount of the players display throughout the game. He also would not have liked the quest as it is just another situation where one player dominates over another which is something that would never happen at a Disney park (Unless you use FastPass, which is avalible to everyone so it is actually very fair).

Now I know VMK isn't just all negitive but it is still a game that not only features, but promotes the compitition of players and even makes some players just look flat our better and more dominant then others. Walt would certainly not be happy with that aspect of VMK. Now if you want to argue, rant, throw a sissy-fit, or whatever over this topic, go ahead. This is just my basic opinion that may not be right to 99% of you guys so that is just okay with me.

Well, you do actually have a point there.

But at this point, I'm starting to think I might not even care about what walt would do, I love my vmk!!

Even if Walt Disney was around with such a game like VMK I can tell you now that I am sure it would not be his main concern. Also- Disney (as a whole) does not handle VMK or any of it's Online gaming worlds, but WDIG (Walt Disney Internet Group) does for the most part.

Therefore I am going to conclude by repeating myself and saying that it would not be a main concern especially since he was all about moving along and looking towards the better things the future brings.

I'm not talking about Walt managing VMK as a whole as I know Disney doesn't care about VMK as a top priority and I would have to say I'm glad about that as I would rather have them improve on their parks and movies then this game.

I'm just saying if Walt had his opinons he had in the hayday of Disney entertainment (1940's-1960's), would he think VMK would be good enough for Disney, or just not enough.

I don't think he would not like VMK, but I do think he would find ways to "keep moving forward, opening new doors..."
Moving forward forces change - good or bad (and closing VMK, imo, is bad) but change is necessary to growth.

However, that's the key word here - growth. Maybe VMK has reached the point where it needs to change or die - but I believe an effort should be made to change it, to expand and improve on the beginning we all have made. Instead, the decision was reached to snuff out our little digital lives like a candle.

I don't believe Walt would have ended VMK this way, but he might well have decided that it needed changing, and that closure and rebuilding would be the best way to implement this change.
The physical parks are always changing - sometimes for the worse (rip WDW Mr Toad's Wild Ride), sometimes for the better (Buzz Lightyear), but change is inevitable.

VMK was originally designed to be a promotion, but we have made it into a community. It was expanded to include the new promotions (Epcot's 25th, Dreams), so it obviously moved beyond it's original purpose - does it need a new goal, or a complete makeover ? I don't know, but I'd really like to see it continue.

If the new horizons Yavn mentions happen to include a new and improved form of VMK, under whatever name, I'll be among the first to sign up.
We will always have the memories of our times in VMK, and if we are lucky, we will be able to meet and play again in a bigger and better virtual Park.

I started playing as a way to get my "Disney Fix" when I was unable to go to the actual park - I kept playing because of the good times I had, and the sense of belonging to a family.
I'm going to miss my extended 'family', the ones on my (rather short) friends list, the ones I saw almost every day whose names I recognized, and the ones I never got to meet.
Sure, we whined, fought and complained, but what family doesn't ? We got over it, we moved on and kept playing. The ones who couldn't, or wouldn't, moved out. They changed - but that was what they needed to move forward.

I am unable to play either POTCO or ToonTown on my computer, but after reading some of the many comments about them, I'm not sure I'd want to.
And I don't think Walt would, either.
