View Full Version : So why not pay?

Something about the closing does not make sense to me. After the start of VMK they created POTC and aquired Club Penguin and I have no idea when Toontown started but..
Seems to me, they already have spent endless dollars on creating VMK. They already have a built in fanbase and tried the game out. It averages anywhere from 2-7 thousand players at any given time.
Why not just say they are going to change this to a pay to play game?
It must be difficult to get a web based game off the idea floor and yet they already have this game in place?
Wouldn't it make sense to give the pay option a run?

I'd love to have that option.. I'd pay without any doubt.
I've already sent an email telling this.
I hope we get an answer.

I think it would. Now I also think it would be best to use the POTC and the "new" toontown model where a certain portion of the game is free. And enough that players who can't pay can still have fun.

But I would be willing to pay for VMK - especially if it's a choice between paying for the game and it ending.

I think most would agree that if there is a customer base for Toontown, there most surely is for VMK. It's universal and you have many options to choose from in VMK unlike POTC.

I would pay to play.

it would be a nice option, wouldn't it?
I would certainly pay as well where I would never even have considered paying for pirates or toontown.
it does seem a waste to throw the baby out with the bath water

I would pay, too.

But would you still pay if you lost all your items and had to start over: everyone with nothing but tennis shoes, jeans and a mickey t-shirt?

Of the other games out there? Yes I would!
Reasoning? VMK is about the experience - the others are about the game.

what I wonder is.. how would they do with the people who payed for stitch hat and other rewards? do you think it would be fair for them? shouldn't they give a new oportunity to redeem those codes (if they start over I mean)

My thought had always been free to play but you can pay for better stuff.

If you go to Target they now sell Credits for Habbo Hotel. Habbo is also made by Sulake. Why not just let people play for free and if you want the super rare Blue Stitch Hat you can buy it for $5. Clearly Ebay has shown us people will pay $70 for Jack Sparrow Suits and around $200-$400 for Infernos and $200-225 for Blue Stitch.

Wow I couldn't have said it more beautifully. The only reason I play POCTO with unlimited accses is because I got it free from being a beta tester. I would most definitly pay for vmk because "VMK is about the experience - the others are about the game."

I would definitely consider a pay to play option provided they invested in a new server to support the game. Some have said that it would be impossible to migrate the game to a new server without losing the existing database anyway. If that's the case now would be the time to do it. Besides I've come to the conclusion that I'm not getting caught up collecting merchandise in future games. Greed takes too much fun out of the game so I'll just be content to enjoy myself playing pirates and talking to friends.

To answer the above - The only Important thing I'd want carried over is the titles.
VMK has become more of a social thing with side games and that is what I valued most.. the contacts made.

I'd definetly pay. I jsut read the news about it closing. I mean this is crazy! I lvoe VMK I don't want to see it go it brings so much joy and creativity and awesomeness. I can't believe they're jsut taking it away. With all the cool stuff and they seem to be jsut getting on top of another ball rolling of new stuff then they're jsut going to shut it down. Plus like the first post there's anywhere from 2-7 THOUSAND players at a time. Thats not someting you can ignore and then take away. If it does go away without option and never to be brought back I'm going to be really really sad. I love this game a lot. I only play it in casual moderacy, but now I wish i dedicated my life to it. It woulda been wortht he 3-4 years. = /

So true. We sort of know each others personalities by each other's "titles".
Would we be able to know each other if our titles changed? Hmm, some of us, I think I could identify.

Agreed, I've made some great friends here and would like to retain them if they were to consider a pay to play option. If the friends list is lost the only way to rebuild it would be the ability to identify them via their titles.

My favorite line on VMK was when a person would walk up and say,"Your rich", and I'd always reply,
"Yes in friends, the rest is all pretend".
Don't take this away VMK.

Why would they put so much effort into a promotion that they expected to end soon? I suppose I would pay to play, even if I must start all over again.

i love this game, but it would all depend on the price. they always have a way of overpricing things, and i have a really tight budget. $12/yr. would be acceptable, but i dont think i'd pay much more.

i think the most i would pay is about $10 a year. i do not fully believe in paying for an internet game.

but i was also wondering since disney has taken this wonderful game to play from us and all their other games are not nearly as advanced, has anyone found any other game that is comparable to vmk? i am looking for an interactive game that we can still chat with friends and play games.

I am looking as well. If you, or anyone, find a game that is kind of like this, not blood and gore, monsters and such, then please post it. Anywhere! :)

I hope we can find one. :mickey: I feel like I am getting ready to move to a new city and leaving all my friends behind. Let's find a new game!

I have to say, that migrating to a new server is very possible, I mean companies do it all the time to upgrade to better newer servers, it's called BACKUP and RESTORE to a new server. Same when you loose your computer, you go from a backup and you can restore it.

This would seem like a smart idea, wouldn't it? Clearly, what Disney is looking for is money.

They would only gain money by switching to a pay-to-play system, instead of forcing everyone to go out and find other things to occupy their time.

Vmk is the only game i would never pay for.
Its not worth the money, any way disney told us VMK was to attract people into walt disney world, If you had to pay well, Disney would get less people comeing maby. If you are going to own all the online games like me, it will be VERY expensive.
I am a big fan of disney, ANd i would love to help them but right now people who own all the games could not get the game.
Well, if it turns out you have to pay,Vmk should be if you have to pay:
50c - monthley
6$ - 6 mothley
12$ - Yearly
Just my opinion...
I would totally pay! A reasonable price would be $5.95 per month.

GIANT over pay for what Vmk is.

Tho, If Vmk was 3-d, better frame movements, I would buy it and change my mind.

Toontown, Maby? Little over priced, Great 3-D game and great movements, There no blood or gor, And You Defeat robots with pies 0_0 ( Cogs )
If your looking for no priced games, all i can think of is smalll mini games.

Even if they did add a pay to play option would the UK people be allowed to pay UK money? That's what I'm curious about..

Since VMK shares your sign in with most of their other sites, you should be able to keep your title, Items and most importantly Your Friends Lists. All they have to do is on may 21st give the option pay to play meaning you keep everything and pay to play like normal. $10 a month would give them and average of $70,000 A MONTH OR $840,000 A YEAR !!!! I think they should be able to run off that. Come on makes sense to me.

VMK has given us plenty of time to react to a closing.
Part of me says with all the posts about saving the game, there is a reason for the extra time.
If a game was really closing, usually it just does.
If you wanted to switch a free game to a pay per play game without upsetting even more people, you make them think they are the reason it was saved.

$10 a month is WAY too much.. just remember, we have lag, dc, LINES, etc. this game has yet to be crafted into a flawless game.. i still stick to my $12/yr. its worth no more than that.

also, if they were to do that, i would hope they would tell us this before the 21st. i have a boy account, and i'd at least like to transfer all his stuff over if i know i am going to stay.

intresting thought mrmyth. i thought the same. i would think that they would just close the site with like a weeks notice. not 2 months, slightly less than 2 months.

Maybe they should do something similar to Puzzle Pirates, where on one server non-paying members are limited with what they can "buy", while subscribers can "purchase" anything available in the "stores"; and on the other server, you can take the coins you earn and exchange them for "doubloons" that can be used to purchase anything available in the stores. It takes a lot of coins to get one "doubloon", but it would allow people to still play for free if they want to work hard at being able to get whatever items they want, but the people who can afford it and don't have a lot of time to play can use the subscription way...

I would pay, but here's my idea:

All of us who have been long time VMK players and played it as a free game should get free full access.

I don't think it should become pay to play though, because a lot of kids aren't able to pay for the parks, how will they pay for VMK?

Then, that would be alot of people playing VMK for free since VMK has always been a free game. That wouldn't really help them earn money.

They won't. They expect us to go from a FREE game to a choice of games that all cost money? I have a feeling they aren't seeing enough visitors in those games and how do you get more? Demolish one game and tell everyone from that game to go to the others.
