Did you really expect VMK to close this soon? It closes in about a month and a half... did you expect it?

I knew it had started out as just a promotion, but it had done so well I thought they were keeping it. I think they should keep it...:RedFaced:

It's like what I've always said. There has been to much fighting. People never seem to appreiciate what Yavn or anyone at vmk did for us. The quest was the last straw. Then when I saw people getting excited about the new stuff coming out this month I thought aw finally, people are getting better now. Maybe the fighting will stop. It was to little to late. They are shutting down. I am so sad about the turn of events. I am going to keep my room open as much as possible so ppl can drop in and we can have a party. Maybe trade clothes that maybe ppl always wanted but were to poor to have. I would like to try on a blue stitch hat for one thing. Oh, oh, and a sparrow costume. I promise to give them back. LOL! Yeah, that's what I thought about a year ago as well. But with all the re-releasing, I saw this coming a long time ago.

It doesn't totally surprise me I guess. I wish they would reconsider though. I think most people would be willing to pay a monthly fee to play.

Im gonna lose alot of connection with some really good people ive met on VMK! :( I hope most of them will get on a site that my VMK father made for meh. NO IM NOT A NOOB! O_O

I bet when I get on VMK on May 21st, every single person on my friends list will be online. When it's the last day of VMK's existence, I will go to as every Public Guest Room in VMK. Then take a picture of VMK Last Day Parties. Then, I'll take a picture of my best friends on VMK and other people dancing in Castle Forecourt, then I'll put it all into a movie and burn it on a disk, and every May 21st, I'll grab the CD and watch it. I just hope this doesn't happen to Toontown or Club Penguin anytime soon. ( Not PotCO. It released last fall. ) Then I'll tell some of my friends to get on here so we'll be able to talk with each other. I just hope my best friend doesn't join a group of bandits before VMK closes.

wow vmk is closing?

I knew VMK would close eventally, but I thought it would probably like close like next year, or around then.

The codes from the Nemo subs expire Sept 20, 2008. So I thought it would at least last until then.

I had no idea it was just a promotion. I still feel a bit shocked.

they keep throwing the workd *promotion* around, but come on now.. its been around 3 years.. if you ask me, *promotion* is their way out of this.. i think yavn (or whoever it is) got mad at all the quest complaints and that did it..

I think that's quite possible. Although I think it's also possible that Disney has already been putting pressure on VMK to close and that the complaints about the quest may have just made it a bit sooner rather than a bit later.

I'm surprised it lasted THIS long...makes sense, the last quest was titled the quest to end all quests. this is the longest game i've ever played on line (played right after beta). it's been a good run and i'm ready to move on, but i WILL miss the buds i've made along the way and of course fireworks ;) i'm just glad they announced it like they did--can you imagine if they just pulled the plug one day out of the blue, and when you tried logging on you got a message that said "sorry folks but vmk has ended!"? :wave2:

I didn't know it would close in 6 weeks time. :( I thought it would last at least another year.

I am not suprised at the closing of VMK! i think the Blackheart Quest was the Straw that broke the Camel's Back.

Although it does make me very sad, and had my little sister in tears. VMK .. why bother selling new stuff and having events if all your going to do is close up. You won't be seeing me at any of these so called "EVENTS". The only reason i will even stay on VMK for the next month and a half is to hang out with the many friends i have made. I hope the one's that are on VMKF will stay here to keep in contact.

When they pulled the quests out of the parks last year I though VMK was nearing its end. I didn't believe it when Yavn told us not worry - the closing of the quests just seemed like a huge red flag to me.

But then, VMK did some things that made me change my mind, and think "hey, VMK might be sticking around after all". They came out with all the wonderful Gingerbread items at Christmas time and hosted "the first *annual* Gingerbread contest" (leads you to believe there will be more in the future) they added the Magic Shop, they released the first take of the Card Trading Game, added the Penny Arcade, started releasing real versions of the VMK pins (tiki and pirate), hired new staff, had new things in the newsletter (Esmeralda's Trivia, Pirate Vinnie, etc.) and created Bella's specials in the Emporium.

So, while I knew VMK wouldn't be around forever, I certainly wasn't expecting it to go away so soon. I thought they were breathing new air into the game recently, trying new things (the big quest), and going forward with their commitment to the game.

i thought that it was going to be long just like yavn said in one of the newsletters. he said that vmk would be opened for and extremely long time. and i feel bad for the people that go to WDW and DLR to buy those code things and then now they're getting there money wasted and it's not like they can get a refund or something

I joined because of an advert and because of that advert i have 2 years of fun within vmk. I never actually saw this coming but the decline in some parts of vmk was just signs that it could of happened.. and it did.. So i am just going to use the time i have left in there and have fun!

For a while, I thought it would outlast those 10 year bans, but when they closed VMK Central at both parks, I figured it was only a matter of time. When they took VMK prizes out of DMR, I was really worried. Then the megaquest gave me some hope that they would keep torturing us for years to come, so this struck me as somewhat of a surprise when it happened.

Yeah, what's the point of saying the first annual _____ when there won't ever be a second? They've been adding all of this cool stuff only to tell us that we only have a month left to enjoy it.

The least they could do would be to close VMK 3 days later than they planned. This would make it a Saturday so the players could play all day and it would also be the 24th. VMK would then be 3 years and 1 day old.

I agree. This is almost like saying, that we only have a few weeks left to live because of how close some/most of us are to VMK.

Yes, it may have been made as a promo originally, but it was kept longer, so there's no real reason it's closing. They say it's because it was a promo, but it's become more than a promo -- a great game that people of all ages like to play. It could be kept as a normal game and not be thought of as a promo.

Well I kinda did and did not.
I had a fear of it closing after most of the stuff from it in the parks was taken away.
But I am still sad, but I am also thankful for what Yavn and the vmk staff
made.

I did expect it to. Although I did not expect it to end so quickly. Without VMK I feel a whole part of me is gone. I mean Disney kept the Parade of Dreams from the 50th anniversery, so why don't they keep VMK? :(

I put I dont care because it would close sooner or later, but i was thinkig around 2010ish

I wonder if we can move the closing date to september 30, 2008. That is the day on the cards.

Hmm I see this information highly irrelevant (not to judge or anything, it is coming form someone who joined in April 2008 and currently has 15 posts) There is a slight chance it could be true but how do you know? don't post rumors or things your not sure of on the boards. Some people might think they're true and start to worry.

I didn't expect VMK to close this early. When I joined, I didn't even know it was a promotion. And now for only a year I've played VMK and BAM! VMK is closing.

I didn't think that VMK would be closing so soon. I returned just yesterday from about a two week break from VMK, and I was in complete shock that it's closing. I wish they gave us more of a headsup about this. But I'm not going to just sit here and complain, because that's probably one of the reasons that they're closing VMK.

Actually I don't think anybody was paying close attention to this but, as I said in a previous post, they probably mentioned POTCO and Toon Town because they were giving u other games to play with after vmk is gone. That was probably a heads up....

I assumed that after the blackheart quest went terribly wrong, vmk's closing was just around the corner. I must admit however, that it caught me totally off guard.

I agree, the quest was the beginning of the end for the game as that caused atleast 1,000 regular members to quit the game and it was just going all downhill for VMK with all of you guys saying how VMK is messed up and how you would all quit or take some breaks.

At this point, it will close and there is nothing that will happen to stop it with the average attendance cut in half. I just stopped playing pretty much for good and I will probably stop coming here sooner or later as I just want to get on with my life and spend my summer hanging out with my friends. Anyone else thinks that sounds good?

I actually never saw it coming. And after playing it for almost 3 years (August 2005 - May 2008) it's gonna be hard to let go of. Why don't they realize that they're letting down thousands? This isn't going to make them look good, either. I just wish they weren't closing. But it's weird: They've just released alot: GREEN EARS, 52,000 CREDITS, WHITE GABRIELLA AND GREEN TROY SUITS... where are they going with this?: Closing. It doesn't seem fair. But I'm giving all my stuff away in quests... Please don't close! [:'(

It was obvious that the game was going to close soon with all of the promotions of other pay-to-play games, and I think Disney is being very generous. There is a point that a lot of people are missing. Disney could have just pulled the plug on VMK instantly at any time, without giving any warning. Instead, they gave us hints by promoting their pay-to-play games a lot, and then gave us over a month notice before closing the virtual gates. Disney had to pull the plug to save money, and just like most large companies, money is what's most important to them. They ended the game in the best way they could: by giving us a lot of time to say goodbye to virtual friends before closing the game.

I knew VMK started out as a promotion, but it became so popular, that I thought it would keep going. In fact, it should keep going. It's such a GREAT game...there has to be an alternative to closing.

Although it was a promotion, VMK has more members than ever right now. They are at their strong point. I saw it coming, but not this soon. Maybe a year and a half. Definetely not this soon though.

I expected in maybe, 2-3 years.
But I would have perferred to just..grow out of VMK, instead of going through the emotion as many players are going through now.

I put tons of time into building up my character and playing games to earn money for the past three years, and I have made amazing friends. To me Vmk should stay open for just one more year!!One more year and I would be happy! If they had told us more in advance that Vmk would be closing in may, I might have understood and been able to prepare for the closing, but they decided to tell us a month and a half before Vmk closed and now I am lost! I think those who have been on Vmk since the beginning will be the most devastated, like me. At least the people who just joined..for all that I know won't be losing very much! I have three years worth of VMK memories! All my friends I have made, my character and its stuff... I feel, pressured, angry, sad. And I AM NOT going to pretend I understand why Vmk is closing and act like it is no big deal. I am FURIOUS with disney and I AM NOT going to take Vmk closing very easily!! On somewhat of a bright side, when Vmk does close I am going to feel relieved, it will just be over with and I won't have to worry about it anymore. Disney will have left tons people devastated, FURIOUS, and in my case heartbroken.....I doubt Disney even cares about that, all they want is money. GREAT JOB DISNEY!!! GREAT JOB!

I know, i dont want to leave my friends either. I dont want my stuff to go away. I wish it wasnt closing because i made some very good friends. Well I love you all.

Yes, I expected this to come soon enough. When VMK Central closed, it was pretty obvious that VMK would be gone soon. I did not want this to happen, and of course I would want it to be open longer, but I knew it was coming soon. :[

What bugs me the most about this (andf it is making me VERY angry) is that when you go to vmk.com, on th left is an ad for Toontown, and then there is another ad for Club Penguin on that page. Yeah, I play POTCO and Toontown, they are both fantastic games, but there is no need to push the pay-to-play games so much.

i didnt want vmk to close either. i really liked vmk. i had lots of friends and it was fun. i am not liking virtual family kingdom so far but it is just beta. i hope it will be better.

i never knew that vmk was part of any promo.
( i never read the news on the vmk page )
so when they said it was closing ( my friend told me )
i was shocked... and i felt kind of stupid bc i didnt know @.@

The thing that I hated the most was that I was so busy with other things, that I stopped playing after Spring Break, and didn't get the chance to play until the beginning of June when Summer started. I guess I always neglected going on because I figured it would always be there to go back to, if I really wanted to and had the chance. But I just missed playing one last time by only a few days.

Vmk was cool and all, but its just a game made up of virtual pixels, vmk closing didn't really affect me.

We cannot know for sure why Vmk closed, And the workers, As i've been told by a few from e-mail replies, They cannot say.

But I can take a wild guess.
1. Funding
2. Staff
3. RULE BREAKING!
4. Company issues

I didn't know that they were going to close it this soon, but I knew that they would have to sometime.

I knew this day would come....It's all of so and so's fault yeah...But how can they do it when it'sonly been out for 3 yrs.? Toontown came out 2003? It did cuz i played it when the game started....

I didn't expect it at all. When they said it was just a promotion I was hurt. Because over the past year and a half that I have played, it has become so much more than that. What's worse is that everyone one else got to enjoy it longer than me. My old computer crashed on January 15th and I didn't get one back until April. Worst of all, my new computer didn't want to run VMK. I got on VMK on the last day for a mere hour. And my best friends weren't on. They had been on the day before. But I cried. I am not going to lie to you I did. I had lost so many friends... And I learned that life can be soooo not fair to you. But maybe being gone was for the best... I don't know how though. And in my absense I had 1 hour to catch up on 4 MONTHS worth of fun. The last time I had gotten on VMK before the final day was on January 18th. I used my dad's computer, for it was a last resort.

And I think it was much much much too soon. I thought they were just closing this one down and making a new one the first time I heard, from my friend in real life on the phone. But, she was wrong. I really don't know why they closed it too soon. I am POSITIVE people would have payed to play, and they would have been rolling in money if they did. VMK was a retreat from the real world. A Disneyland for kids who didn't live near either park.
The last time I remember going to Disneyland was when I was merely three years old. Then I moved far away. And I have NEVER been to WDW.
VMK was my addiction. Now all I really do is either like play Build-A-Bearville or RPG on TTC.

On top of VMK, Avatar ended and so many things came crashing down.
Yes, still in July it hurt.
