Ok I put in a friend code I found on a user page, and it is in my friends list. I tried going to the town using WFC, but I don't really know how to use that. He said move it closer to range, but where is that? Do both players need to be looking? I'm so confused. Please someone give me step by step or something. I've always wanted more friends :)

Edit: also, how exactly do i get a friend code? i'm not sure how to use wfc, so help?

This could get complicated. I'll tell you what I know, and I've pulled out my Wifi guide (It comes with all Wifi compatible DS games ). I'll explain how to do this from the start, not where you might be. ;)
1.You will need a wireless access poinin your house (something that can be used for laptops and such). Then you'll need to connect to that network with your DS. (The wifi manual should tell you about the network icons (AKA what can be used)).
2. You'll need to connect to that access point, which can be done by starting any Wifi-compatible game, then clicking on Nintendo Wifi Connection Settings (In animal crossing, it's under Other Things. It will also say you will need to access Wifi connection, but ignore that, you're just setting up for now. ) Then click on Yes, and you'll end up in a different type of menu.
3. Click Wifi connection settings(The large button), and click an open Connection button(They all should be empty, so just click Connection 1).
4. Click Search for an Access Point. Your DS should search for a moment, and if you DO have a connection, it will pop up.
5. Click that connection (Note, some are protected by passwords, so for those, find out by looking at the connection from the main computer in your house, or by asking your family, then put it in.)
6. It will ask to test connection. Do so, and it will try to connect. If successful, you're ready!

Now you just need your friend code. Simply go to Copper at the main gate, click Friend Code, then Yes. He should give you it. It's accessible anytime by clicking on the friends(The heart button) menu. Note, in order to connect with friends, you'll need to say your in-game character's name, and town, along with the friend code for it to work!
After putting in a friend's code, town, and character name,(and your friend has to do the same with yours!) Then go to Copper, click I wanna go out!, and select Nintendo WFC. Click OK, and wait for the connection, then anybody who has their gates open ( more on that later ) will pop up. Click that, and you'll end up in their town in a few seconds!
If you want people to come to your town instead, click Invite Guests! instead of I wanna go out!. Then click Nintendo WFC, and wait as usual. Your gates will be open, and you can go ahead and do whatever you like until someone shows up.

Enjoy! (and I'll put my friend code and the like in my profile for you! I haven't played in a while, so my towns a mess..)

If you DO have one in your house, your family should be able to tell you. If you don't, you'll need a Nintendo USB connecter, which can be found from the Nintendo store online. It comes with it's own instructions.

Well, the only thing I know of is the USB, and it's only use I know is Wifi..
But I hope it does work. I haven't connected with someone in a long time..

( My town is almost cleaned of weeds now, just a few more.. )
Also, if you don't understand some stuff, see if you can find the Wifi manual that came with Animal Crossing: Wild World. It may be able to answer a few questions.

EDIT: Aww... I was really looking forward to it.
It might be worth a try just to go to the connection menu and look for a spot. I dunno..
The Wifi manual also tells you how you can connect to Wifi hotspots, which are found at places like McDonald's. Just in case you have lunch or something there, you could connect..
