View Full Version : Hall of Presidents - Show and Quest
prisoner 02-12-2008, 08:48 PM Actually, it is the
Hall of Priz.id.ants show quest
thanks to the VMK dictionary.
http://gallery.vmkforums.com/data/1125/president1.jpg
Open today (Lincoln's Birthday) through February 22nd (Washington's Birthday) for limited showings only. I'll be announcing when shows begin in chat and will try to message my friends as well.
Inspired by the show at WDW, but less likely to put you to sleep. I hope you come, enjoy the show, have fun with the quest, and pay tribute to our Presidents.
TheBird 02-12-2008, 08:55 PM Looks cool Priz! Maybe try using those curtains VMK has to produce that opening feel the show has :)
PM me the start times! :)
dubcit 02-12-2008, 08:56 PM Oh! So that is what George and Abe were for! I was trying to figure out. Ill make sure I get to the quest some time or another.
BetterDays 02-12-2008, 09:08 PM I love this idea! So creative!
I saw it at WDW and I couldn't believe how real all of the Presidents looked haha! Great to see someone bring it into VMK. :D
Schmoofy 02-12-2008, 09:11 PM Quite possibly one of the best ideas I've seen in VMK, period. Amazing work, Priz!
Beautiful 02-12-2008, 09:18 PM Sweet, i'll try to check it out sometime when I find the time.
.:.Beautiful.:.
the_phoenix 02-12-2008, 10:40 PM Yet again Priz does it! I'll be sure to come check it out when it opens. Again, GREAT WORK!
Neoteny 02-12-2008, 10:52 PM Quite possibly one of the best ideas I've seen in VMK, period. Amazing work, Priz!
I'm still waiting for GPDOT's ice and crate rendition of Mount Rushmore.
Stemaboat_Tyler 02-12-2008, 11:00 PM Cool room. Fits with the holiday coming up soon!
Neoteny 02-13-2008, 12:08 AM I didn't get there in time to see the show, but I did complete the quest!
liljesi 02-13-2008, 12:12 AM Priz, you never cease to amaze me with all of your creative ideas for rooms, quests, and games! This looks awesome! I'm definitely making an effort to drop by and see a show!
Love the room title, btw. ;)

pinprophet 02-13-2008, 12:22 AM is room not open i searched priz and hall of priz.id.ants
prisoner 02-14-2008, 09:39 PM Looks cool Priz! Maybe try using those curtains VMK has to produce that opening feel the show has :)
PM me the start times! :)
An interesting idea. I tried it, and a few other combinations, but didn't like how they looked. Perhaps I'll fiddle with it some more another time.
As always - I don't publish show times in advance. I never know when I'll have time. But I message friends when it opens, as well as announce it on the VMKF chat.
Oh! So that is what George and Abe were for! I was trying to figure out. Ill make sure I get to the quest some time or another.
I look forward to seeing you. :)
Yes, I've had HonestAbe and GoWash for a while, specifically for this project. I'll talk more about the history another time. It is kinda interesting, actually.
I love this idea! So creative!
I saw it at WDW and I couldn't believe how real all of the Presidents looked haha! Great to see someone bring it into VMK. :D
Thank you. I try to do something a little different in all my projects - and then share the idea with others to see how they take it. I'll discuss how I came up with this another time.
Quite possibly one of the best ideas I've seen in VMK, period. Amazing work, Priz!
Wow! Such flattery! Even I don't think its quite that good, tho I'm really happy with both the idea and how it turned out.
Yet again Priz does it! I'll be sure to come check it out when it opens. Again, GREAT WORK!
Thank you. I hope you have fun with it and enjoy the show. :)
I'm still waiting for GPDOT's ice and crate rendition of Mount Rushmore.
LOL!
The big difference is that this is distinctly Disney at the same time. It pays homage to both Great Moments With Mister Lincoln as well as the Hall of Presidents at WDW. (And it almost borrows a joke from the tiki birds while its at it. :D)
Cool room. Fits with the holiday coming up soon!
Exactly why this is running now! I've been saving this for just this occasion.
Priz, you never cease to amaze me with all of your creative ideas for rooms, quests, and games! This looks awesome! I'm definitely making an effort to drop by and see a show!
Love the room title, btw. ;)
Thank you - I do try.
I got lucky with the title. Once I realized "Presidents" wasn't in the dictionary, I kept trying to find a combination that was. I'm lucky that Priz is a good starter. Originally I was going for "Priz.i.dents", but "dent" isn't in the dictionary!
is room not open i searched priz and hall of priz.id.ants
When you looked, it wasn't open. I can't keep it open all the time (I wish I could!). I've had it open for at least one show every day since Lincoln's Birthday - and I hope to keep that up at least until Washington's Birthday. Weekends may be difficult - but I'll try.
I just finished a batch of shows now, in fact, and the quest machine is almost out of prizes. Hopefully I'll be able to fill it up by showtime tomorrow - whenever that is.
Hope to see everyone in the Hall!
PrincessSofia 02-16-2008, 04:40 AM Wow! That looks awesome!
GoofyLuke 02-16-2008, 06:34 AM I'm still waiting for GPDOT's ice and crate rendition of Mount Rushmore
Now Neo, aren't we all?
Great room Priz, I didn't get to come by but I will sooner or later to do the quest hopefully! :)

Caterpillar AEIOU 02-16-2008, 08:05 AM Oh OW, What an original idea.
Great Job! Are you going to run show for a while?
Neoteny 02-16-2008, 02:16 PM Oh OW, What an original idea.
It's so original, it hurts! ;)
prisoner 02-18-2008, 01:15 AM Now that the dictionary has caught up with the holiday... the room has been renamed! So the Hall of Presidents show quest will be open for Presidents' day. Our presidents are ready for you to come by after you do the VMK quest and run out of credits at Ned. :D
We want you to come and watch the Hall of Presidents
:smiley60:
Wow! That looks awesome!
Glad you think so. I've made a few small changes, which I hope make it nicer. Wish I had more time to do even more work, but tomorrow is a big day.
Great room Priz, I didn't get to come by but I will sooner or later to do the quest hopefully! :)
Well, I haven't had the chance to run it the past few days... but I will on Monday! For as much of the day as I can manage (and until the prizes run out). So I hope you come then to watch the show!
Oh OW, What an original idea.
Great Job! Are you going to run show for a while?
Its not too original to do a Disney attraction in VMK. :) But I had fun doing it, and hope people have fun watching it and playing the quest.
The show will run until Washington's Birthday later this week. Hopefully at least for a little every day, but I can't be sure.
It's so original, it hurts! ;)
Hurts my credit balance, thats for sure!

Might want to change your first post then ;)
I can't wait to see the show :)
cooldad210 02-18-2008, 01:40 AM This room rocks priz
awsomered 02-18-2008, 02:30 AM Hey cool looking room is it boring like the real one...?
prisoner 02-18-2008, 09:59 AM Might want to change your first post then ;)
I can't wait to see the show :)
I'm leaving the first post as is, to record my dancing for posterity.
I look forward to seeing you there!
This room rocks priz
Glad you like it! If you (or anyone else) do, I would really appreciate it if people Nominated it for The Best. No clue if staff will agree, but it means a lot to me if people try.
Hey cool looking room is it boring like the real one...?
Yup. A real snoozer!
No... seriously... as I put in the description "Now with humor." Plus you can get some trinkets for watching and doing the quest! :) You can't get that at WDW. And their Abe Lincoln doesn't dance!
mickey0794 02-18-2008, 09:54 PM That looks kewl!
black33 02-18-2008, 11:03 PM One of my friends was in the room today, and I realized what room it was and had to come check it out!
It's an amazing idea priz, and the show was great! (I loved the quest too because I had never had a everest chair before!)
Well, thanks for this! And i'm sad to see that the room is going to be closing after today!!
PrincessSofia 02-19-2008, 01:38 AM Can you tell us when you're open Priz?
Baseballthrill 02-19-2008, 09:42 AM i hope i around to get a ticket looks very good and great idea
prisoner 02-19-2008, 11:01 AM I got a late start on running the show yesterday, since I was trying to record quest information for our wiki at Disney's Online Worlds. We suffered quite a few laggy moments as well, but otherwise there was only one technical glitch in the shows.
The biggest problem we had was that people didn't know how to eat cake. I find this so strange, that I want to ask everyone here - if the clue says to eat cake, and the show says "Everybody emote some cake", do people really not know how to do this?
So aside from people demanding cake, and a few other disruptive guests, we had a pretty fun time and a pretty full room for the 4 hours or so that we were open. I'm really glad people came out and had a fun time. :)
That looks kewl!
Thank you. It is pretty fun to do, and most people seem to like it. :)
One of my friends was in the room today, and I realized what room it was and had to come check it out!
It's an amazing idea priz, and the show was great!
I'm so glad you liked the show. Far too many people seem to be there just for the quest, so I'm really happy that people do watch the show. (The show was the part that took all the work!)
(I loved the quest too because I had never had a everest chair before!)
Wow, really? I was worried that this part of the prize would be the least popular, but you're the third person now who has expressed happiness for getting one. (These are easy for me - I have a few hundred saved up. Far easlier than the 100 credits for the two chairs. I was really hoping Ned would be selling some cheap red and blue items I could have used instead.)
Well, thanks for this! And i'm sad to see that the room is going to be closing after today!!
Well, I have some good news... it isn't! At least I hope it isn't. My goal is to keep it running until Washington's Birthday, which is later this week. Now, some of that assumes that I keep restocking the quest machine, which is getting expensive, but worth it. And it assumes I have enough time, but I hope to run it at least a few more times.
Can you tell us when you're open Priz?
Unfortunately, I can't. My assistants and I have irregular schedules, and I'm never quite sure when I can get people to help me. I also need to take time to restock the prizes, and adding items to the quest generator is SLOW.
I do announce when the show is starting in the #vmkforums channel on chat, and send a message to those friends that are on at the time.
i hope i around to get a ticket looks very good and great idea
A ticket? Just like in Walt Disney World, no tickets are required for this attraction!
Nickpf 02-19-2008, 11:21 AM A Sweet Quest and Show i went yesterday! Great Job!
PrincessSofia 02-19-2008, 12:54 PM I know how to emote cake! I think they need to make this book:
How To Emote Cake For Dummies
prisoner 02-20-2008, 04:22 PM I didn't get a chance yesterday to run the show, so I wanted to take a moment to talk about what inspired it.
It actually all started back in October 2005, when the Haunted Mansion Black outfit was released. I thought that it would look great on someone wearing a beard, and that would be a perfect Abe Lincoln for the upcoming costume party. So I created a character named "HonestAbe" and gave him the outfit. Unfortunately - the name wasn't approved in time for the party, and I was never judged anyway. But I had a great character. He even had a room called "Great Moments With" that I was planning to use someday. (Perhaps have him give the Gettysburg Address or something.)
But to be honest, I had never seen the show in Disneyland (or at the 1964 Worlds Fair :D), while I had see the Hall of Presidents at WDW. Since Presidents is plural... I figured I needed at least two. George Washington was a good second choice, and a Sparrow outfit with a Musketeer Hat seemed like it would portray the General fairly well. It took a few times to get the name GoWash to get approved, but it took even longer for me to get a sparrow outfit (http://www.vmkforums.com/forums/showthread.php?t=95403) for the project. Not quite in time for me to get it all together for Presidents Day last year tho.
The room is primarily done in red white and blue, for obvious reasons. Red and Blue soldiers are honor guards for the Presidents on stage. The stage is roped off so they can dance in peace. (I didn't just want them to stand, like Lincoln did in the original show... I wanted them to dance. :D)
Oh yeah, the dancing. I particularly liked this trick. The stage mostly looks like crates - which you can't stand on normally. Actually, you need to look closely underneath each chair to see that there is a 2x2 sand rug, with the visible part under the chair itself.
More another time, I hope. Your comments first.
A Sweet Quest and Show i went yesterday! Great Job!
Very glad you liked it. :)
I know how to emote cake! I think they need to make this book:
How To Emote Cake For Dummies
It still strikes me as odd. I'm wondering if I should change the question to make it more clear... but how do I make it more clear?
Anyway... hope to have some more time today through Friday! And I hope I see you there.
Greenway 02-20-2008, 08:30 PM Thanks for opening today. I enjoyed the show and the colors. I'm crossing my fingers that you win best quest because this is an original idea that is thematic and it is evident that a lot of work has been put into it.
prisoner 02-23-2008, 12:02 AM This is our last scheduled day to run the show. It will be open moments after this is posted... and I hope to keep it open as long as I can! So if you'd like to visit the Presidents - this might be your last chance for a while. :)
CapnOlaf 02-23-2008, 12:40 AM This show is cool, Priz did a really good job. Come on in everyone.
groovysqirrel 02-23-2008, 12:44 AM Great show Priz! I liked the quest too.
KEBSD 02-23-2008, 01:35 AM I never thought I'd see Abe "lol." Nice work!

black33 02-23-2008, 01:41 AM I'm sad to see this room going.. I can only hope that you will be getting the best guest room award on Monday..
Have any staff stopped by your rooms?
prisoner 02-26-2008, 10:35 AM This show is cool, Priz did a really good job. Come on in everyone.
Thank you, and thank you for coming out on our last shows. :) We didn't have a huge turnout, but those that did attend seemed to have fun.
Great show Priz! I liked the quest too.
Thank you. The quest was pretty easy - particularly if you watched the show. Not my most clever quest, as it was really meant to get people in to watch the show. :D
I never thought I'd see Abe "lol." Nice work!
Historically, Lincoln did have his funny side. I don't exactly capture that in the show, but I did intentionally make the show funnier to show that.
I'm sad to see this room going.. I can only hope that you will be getting the best guest room award on Monday..
Well, as we've seen by now - I didn't. The BGR this week was truly awesome, so I don't think its any surprise that I lost.
Perhaps I'll rework the show for the 4th of July, but I have a pretty busy summer planned already, so I don't know if I'll have the time to dedicate to the show. If not, hopefully I'll open again next February - Lincoln's Birthday through Washington's Birthday.
Have any staff stopped by your rooms?
Not that I'm aware of. I feel like I open at the wrong times for staff to visit - but I have no idea when the right time would be.
Thank you everyone for your support of the show. I had fun making it and running it, and I hope you had fun watching and playing it. :)
As always - I have plenty more projects in mind... and hopefully some will take flight in the future. (Including a return of Spirits Speak, I hope.) Till then, remember the words of Walt Disney: "If you can dream it, you can do it." Have a Disney Day, all.
BlazinBeats 02-26-2008, 07:30 PM Whoah, that's very creative.
Looks great!
TBs_Creation 02-26-2008, 07:36 PM Did I hear humor? I must certainly come down to see the show then.
