We've had far too many users abuse the negative rep aspect of the system. It was a huge hassle to keep on top of. Majority tended to see it as a open way to flame or troll other users. Now only mods may give neg rep.

"Rep Power" is the amount of reputation points you can give to someone. You can gain rep power through earning reputation points from other users.

Actually, a red star means that the user has negative rep. These are left over from when you could still lower people's reputation. Orange stars are basically the negative equivalent of gold stars, grey stars are balanced rep, and black is disabled.

It's weird, someone gave me bad rep for asking a "dumb question", a few hours ago. How did they do that if it's disabled?

Maybe you could make the invisibility one for, like, someone not known very well on the forums. That would be perfect for me! LOL

No. The magic level you are is based upon the rep points that you have. To change people would give you positive rep and you will eventually see a new magic!

Try it out, if you give someone good rep for a good post then maybe you will get some in return :)

You can different magic levels and have just 1* still. Same with more stars. You can have multiple sayings per star because it is based on the total number of rep points that you have. You can see how many rep points you have by clicking on the User CP and right where you can see the rep that has been left, you can look just right above that box and it will say how many rep points you have. Hopefully that helps you a little bit :)

I, personally, loved the green boxes. The stars are a little to dark for my taste, as well as, "boxy."

Ok, I get it. I clicked on my 'scales' icon and a popup said I have 14 rep points. It's funny that I have been on VMKF for a year and did not know this!

Frankly, if you are using Rep as a popularity contest, then you are using it wrong. You are suppose to rep posts you feel are helpful, encouraging, or insightful.

But it's misunderstandings like this that have caused us to remove negative rep and only keep rep around for short periods of time.

I find that hard to believe, to be honest. I believe their rep power is like 500, if I remember that right, so if you were given bad rep you'd be negative.

If you guys are getting negative rep I would suggest you take screenshots and send them to Batleth so he can see that negative is being given out. He has stated in the past that negative rep has been disabled, so it surely must be a mistake that you are able to receive negative rep from regular users on the forums.

I guess someone fixed it, because now it does not show a red star when i click on User CP.. Weird.

I don't know when I got the rep, I only looked at it for the first time this week.

The red star is becasue I asked if there were going to be codes in the sky high DVD, I guess someone didn't like my question! That one was really old! LOL

The Grey one is because of thr Hannah Montana Comment, that one is new.

The normal positive rep is duller. The high positive rep is a bright yellow. Negative reg is orange colored while high negative is red. It's all based on the original color system for rep with a slight change from green to yellow.

Interesting. Negative rep is apparently not disabled, after all, as evidenced by the 400 rep points I have lost in the past hour and a half. Unless you're suggesting that it was a moderator who did that?

I'd suggest going to an Admin to find out what happened?

I have to admit that I think rep (good rep at least) is not bad to have around. I vote we keep it a bit longer as it seems that a lot of people have stopped complaining about it constantly being around. I think it's a great way to reward the people that are helpful throughout the forums.

I do get a little annoyed by the fact that we are only able to rep like 3 posts a day, because I often run into some great posts more than just 3 times a day and I have to hold off on giving them rep.

I still don't let the fact that rep is turned on rule what I am going to say to someone. I think that is what a lot of people just need to get past.

This quote made by Batleth explains exactly why rep was removed. Batleth said that they'd be showing off the rep for a few days, not forever. I am going to guess that they were testing the rep out again to see what the reaction would be, but that is just my person guess.
