Haley: Once a cheerleader but when she dosen’t make the team. She secretly becomes a boy and joins the football team.

Alex: Haley’s football name

Matt: Haley's best friend. Plays football. Haley secretly has a crush on. Secretly has a crush on Haley too.

Mom: Haley's mother. A single parent.
Always working. Never has time for Haley. (This for Haley is a good thing)

Coach Daniels: Football coach, dislikes women and girls very much.
It is rumored that he had a daughter but put her up for adoption.

Prologue:
Haley loved football. The only reason she was a cheerleader was because she loved football. In fact she hated cheer leading. In her opinion cheer leading was for selfish, stuck-up, flirty girls. Which she wasn’t. Haley's dream is to play football with the boy's. So when Haley doesn’t make the cheerleading team for the next season, she knows this is her chance. Haley secretly becomes a football player.

Chapter 1

Haley patiently waited for the cheerleading coach to post the squad members names. She knew is she didn’t make it she wouldn’t cry for two weeks straight like the other girls would. Cheerleading wasn’t a big deal for her. She only did it for the football. Football was her favorite sport. She dreamed of being on the school team. Her best friend in the whole world, Matt, played football. She went to every practice she could just to watch. Through her eyes football was like *Swan Lake* in cleats and shoulder pads.

Out of the corner of her eye Haley saw the cheer coach post the new squad member’s names. All the girls rushed up like a pack of wild animals to see the list. Some walked away cheering, while others walked away crying.

Haley just sat there trying to get up the courage to see if she made it.

“So did ya make it?" said a mysterious voice. Haley turned around to see Matt, her best friend, standing there.
“Oh hi Matt, No I haven’t looked yet." Haley said.
“Well come on I'll walk up there with ya." Said Matt.
Haley and Matt walked up to the list. Haley scanned the list for her name. When she couldn’t find her name she put a fake frown on her face. While inside she was jumping for joy.
“Ah I'm sorry Haley, don’t worry you'll make it next year." Said Matt.
“That’s ok I'll find something to do, and I don’t think there'll be a next year." Said Haley.
“Well come on my mom will give you a ride home."

*: A ballet

Chapter 2

That night Haley came up with a plan to make her dream come true. She knew the consequences would be dire. Though she preferred not to think about it. She planned to go into Coach Daniels room grab the forms and get her mom to sign them the next night. Tryouts were in two days. She knew she would make the team because every time she visited her dad, she played against her three step brothers, all were on college teams. She always played on a team by herself and always won. She knew her step brothers weren’t letting her win either because afterwards they always had to take naps.

The next day, at lunch Haley lingered behind while everyone else rushed to the cafeteria. She knew Coach Daniels, the football coach, had lunch duty that afternoon. As Haley walked to Coach Daniels room. She thought through her plan, for the millionth time that day, for any signs of flaws. When she reached his room she peaked through the door to see if any students lingered. Luckily she was the only one left in the halls. She quickly took the forms needed to try out for the team. So far her plan was a success. She rushed to the cafeteria, hoping she still had time to eat.
Chapter 3

That night at home Haley waited for her mom to come home. She hoped her mom would come home in time to sign the form. Tryouts started tomorrow.
Haley's mom was a single parent. She was hotshot lawyer at some expensive practice downtown. She always came home really late too.

Haley's mom walked in the door with a cell phone glued to her ear. She walked into the kitchen in search of something to eat. Haley followed her.

“Mom I need you to sign this" said Haley.
Haley's mom grabbed a pen from the junk drawer, and absently signed the form in all the appropriate places. Just like Haley knew she would.
So far everything was working perfectly.

CHAPTER 4
The next day football tryouts started. Haley walked out with all the other. Her hair was in a bun on the top of her hair. Helmet covering the bun. As they all walked out to the fields. Matt walked up to her.
“Hi, I’m Matt. You new here?”
Luckily Haley had the ability to disguise to her voice as a boy’s.
“Yeah, my name’s uh...”There was one flaw in her genius plan. She forgot a name. She quickly tried to recall her stepbrother’s friend’s name. She remembered she thought it was a very nice name, that day she met him. The name suddenly came back to her.
“Alex, I’m Alex.” Haley said
“So have you played football before” Matt asked
“Not on a team, but I play with my stepbrothers.” Said Alex/Haley
“Cool. Well Coach is about to give one of his famous speeches. As long as you act like your listening he won’t make you run laps. Good luck though” Believe me you’ll be asleep before they end.
“Ok Thx for the advice, good Luck to you too. Haley said while laughing.

Try outs that day were hard. They ran laps, did drills, ran more laps, and did more drills. Tonight the *pre-team* list would be posted. Haley had no doubt that she would make the pre-team.

Haley’s predictions were right that night she (in he form) and Matt congratulated one another. On making it past the first elimination. Tomorrow would be the final elimination. Tomorrow would bring hard drills, running, and a play or too.

“So you nervous?” Matt asked.
“Nah, you?”
“Nah. Well come on my mom will give you a ride home.
Haley panicked. Matt couldn’t find out who she was not yet anyway. He still had to think she was Alex. A weird new kid. Who never took off his helmet?
“NO! I mean uh… No thanks my mom’s coming to get me.” Haley said quickly.
“Ok well see ya later.”

*: The unofficial team after first eliminations.

Chapter 5

Haley’s predictions were right again. The next day brought more running, drills and a play or too. (Sound familiar?).
After practice Haley and Matt waited for the coach to the post the official team list. Talk about DeJaVu. While they waited they talked about classes, teachers, and favorites. When Matt talked Haley could help but notice him through different eyes. He had the curliest brown hair she’d ever seen. The dreamiest light brown eyes. With long eye lashes.
“You know what’s really weird?” Matt asked.
“What?” Haley asked
“I never see you at school. Nobody else has either.”
Haley panicked. Had he figured out her secret? Would he tell everyone that he was really Haley, a girl? She had to think of something fast.
“Oh well I didn’t want to tell anyone this but I’m taking college AP classes. People think because I'm smart that I’m not athletic. I just wanted to prove everyone wrong. Please don’t tell.
“Oh… that explains it and I won’t tell.
Thank goodness she thought. He believed me.
“Look coach is posting the list.” Said Matt
They walked up to see the list. Luckily they had both made first string. Alex quarterback, Matt receiver. Haley was glad but inside she knew everyone would soon know her secret and it wouldn’t be pleasant.

Chapter 6

That season Haley/Alex and Matt led their team, the Toro’s, to victory every time. They even beat the toughest team in the state, Jefferson High. Every time they beat em' good too. Against Jefferson the score was 40-14. (Favoring the Toro’s). They won county, and divisional. They were going to state tomorrow too.

The day the state championships. Haley (as herself) and Matt talked about the championships.
“So are you coming to the game tomorrow?" asked matt
"I haven’t missed a game yet why would I miss the most important one?" said Haley.
"Good. Now that I think about it I haven't see you at any of the games."
Haley yet again panicked. What would she say now? She couldn’t keep lying to Matt. He knew her to well to keep believing her lies. She suspected he suspected something. Even though it wasn’t right she would have to lie yet again.
“Oh yeah my mom picks me on her way home from work about 10 minutes before the game ends." Answered Haley. She regretted lying to Matt but he couldn’t know yet.
"Oh, ok. Well ask your mom if you can ride home with me after the game. A bunch of us are going out to eat afterwards. I got to go. See Ya Later."
Haley knew the end of her being of a boy would soon come to an end. Haley hoped it would be peacefully. And without a fight.

Chapter 7

Haley went to bed that night with a sick feeling in her stomach, but wouldn't you if you had just lied to your best friend/crush, your mom, your entire team, your entire school, your coaches, the ENTIRE TOWN?????
She knew the entire town would be at the game tomorrow, not to mention reporters, and recruiters. She had to think of something and fast.
Matt wanted her as herself to go with him out to eat after the game, but he hadn't said anything about Alex going. If she could avoid going as Alex maybe just maybe no one would ever no. But then the horrible gut-wrenching feeling would never go away.
“Fine!” She said to her self-conscience. “I’ll tell everyone!”
Maybe her plans wouldn't crash and burn, but inside she knew they would.

Chapter 8

When Haley woke the next morning, she had an awful feeling it was going to be a long day. “Well might as well start with my mom” she said.
She went downstairs to the sound of her mom on the phone. As her mom finished her conversation, Haley fixed herself breakfast. When she finally hung up Haley finally got the courage to talk to her.
“Mom” said Haley. “We need to talk.”
“About what? And make it quick, I have a hearing at 9:00 and I need to leave by 7:15 which is exactly 12 minutes.”
Haley decided just to come out with it.
“Mom… Umm I don’t need you to pick me up after the game. ‘Because I’m going with Matt and the guys out to eat after the game and Matt will take me home.” Ok, so she couldn’t do it, but how could she tell her mom, who still thought she was a cheerleader. Haley even did her won laundry so her mom wouldn’t find her uniform. And she brought extra clothes to all the game so after her mom picked her up, after everyone else left, she wouldn’t know. How could she possibly tell her?
“Oh, is that all? Oh... you’re going out with that Matt guy... He’s cute!” said her mom.
“Gross, Mom we’re not like that. We are just friends.”
“Alright, well I am leaving. I’ll see you tonight; I don’t know when I’ll be back. So don’t wait up.”
It was now or never.
“Mom I’m not a cheerleader. I’m on the football team.” Haley blurted out. Her mom just stared blankly. Speechless. Suddenly her cell phone interrupted the silence.
“Ugh… I have to take this, but we definitely need to talk.” Her mom said, as she walked out the door.
“Well, that’s one down”, she thought “now for the rest of the world”
