View Full Version : Big Avatars?
MinniesDream 01-23-2008, 08:52 PM I have seen some members, regular members, who have avatars that are larger than 64x64 pixels.
How can you do that?
I see a few that aren't paying subscribers, too. So why do they get one?
I want a nifty big avatar! :D
PrincessWall 01-23-2008, 08:56 PM I've been wondering that myself... Has the limit changed or something?

MinniesDream 01-23-2008, 09:33 PM Oh, okay. Thank you. :)
Ali-Rae 01-23-2008, 11:56 PM Oh, I've always thought the same. I've always wondered why my avatar wasn't as big as other people's avatars ;)
DarthMelissa 01-24-2008, 01:01 AM I've tried to fiddle around with sizes when I make my avatars, to see if I could make the size smaller, but file size be bigger, but that doesn't work. Kinda drives me crazy when I make animated avatars because I lose the quality trying to make it with within the file size contraints.
Batleth 01-24-2008, 01:08 PM Our standard size is 64x64 for all of Nick's forums. It's to help keep down the lag for dailup users. Even some lengthy threads can be a bit slow loading for them so we try to the forums easy loading. We'll probably keep this size till everyone in the world has a broadband connection. Yeah, that'll probably take years at the rate it's going, but the forums aren't much good if users can't view them.
dabaseballking 01-28-2008, 01:03 AM I really think that VMKf needs bigger avatars and bigger space to let it animate. Avatars should be 100x100, with a filesize of - place number here - kb's.
waffles 01-28-2008, 01:05 AM this is a great idea. it helps show what is on the avatar more. but, from a recent thread regarding how people had bigger avatars here is what batleth said:

here is the link of the thread (http://www.vmkforums.com/forums/showthread.php?t=138683) if you want to read it all :D
dabaseballking 01-28-2008, 01:06 AM Still, it doesent hurt to raise it up a bit..
Capn_Brain 01-28-2008, 01:08 AM Raising it a bit for everyone would make it lag a whole lot more. If you are on a slow dial-up connection it makes it nearly impossible to access the forums. The avatar size is fine the way it is and doesn't need to be changed. The lag monster will not come to VMKf! It has already taken over VMK!
waffles 01-28-2008, 01:08 AM i could agree, but then again.. who wants lag on VMKF and on VMK? i know i certainly do not.:Taking:
Kitri 01-28-2008, 01:21 AM I see some mods with much larger avatars, I think having a little bit larger space would be nice. But then again, I would not really want lag.
TheBird 01-28-2008, 01:28 AM It's already 100x100 if I'm not mistaken

if your right click on your avatar, and click properties it shows the dimensions are 60 x 60. ;)
SpinMarty 01-28-2008, 02:32 AM It is a matter of perception as well. Mine looks longer but it is 54x64.

I've answered this already.
