I'm wondering because this site was my first home and I would love to support it :)

First of all, let me point out that there are two great ways to support this site without being a moderator.

The first, of course, is by being an active member of the community. Posting good messages and helping others out. Engaging in active discussions. A discussion forum is only as great as the discussions on it - and if you take part in great discussions, you're helping us out a lot.

The second is by purchasing an upgrade (http://www.vmkforums.com/forums/payments.php) to get a signature, userpage, or other feature. We know not everyone can do this, but this really does help us out.

To actually answer your question, however, I can say that most moderators are "discovered" by current moderators and administrators. We note people who are very helpful, follow the rules well, and genuinely act as leaders in the community. Asking us to become a moderator is usually a pretty good way to not become one. Prove that you're worthy to be a moderator, and you'll be noticed. (I should also point out that purchasing an upgrade won't get you a moderator title. We treat all of our members, paid and unpaid, equally.)

Like Priz said. I remember when I was in IRC and Dizzy told me lol! She said I had to know quantum physics and I have to know how to spell random words. Then Topz came and hit her with a trout...good times...

Well said Priz. Even without becoming a moderator, you can still help new users and anyone who generally needs help. Just as with the community leader system in game, you didn't need one to help someone. Bluntly put, a moderator title isn't a license to help someone.
