View Full Version : What anti-virus/spyware programs do you use? O_o
papersouls 01-21-2008, 04:13 PM Just wondering what eveyone else uses.. Do you use free ones, do you pay? And what programs do you use? if you use more than one, what combination do you find works best together? thanks!
my laptop had pcillin on it, but it expired.. so, i usually use AVG-free edition with their spyware program, but this time i decided to go with avast (why does this not run on a schedule? O_o so far, my only gripe..).. but i have noticed with avast, you need like a billion (ok not that many) programs to protect everything.. so after some research, this was what i came up with.. i have
avast
zone alarm (better firewall than windows from what i hear)
advanced windows care v2 (which totally beats ccleaner..) and
Spyware Terminator 2(used to use spybot search and destroy..)
does it sound like i am protected enough?
papersouls 01-23-2008, 04:26 PM ::bump:: where are all the computer people when i need them? <g>
strikemaster 01-23-2008, 04:29 PM We're here, its just we are busy hacking jk, lol, well, I HIGHLY suggest Norton anti-virus and Norton GoBack. They work SO well.

Insanity 01-23-2008, 04:33 PM I use McAffee, much better than Norton and Symantec, McAffee normally costs about $80 a year, but I get it free from comcast.
You MAY be protected enough, but most likely you are not. Dont use free programs, they never are strong enough.
mre200200 01-23-2008, 06:28 PM I've always used Avira AntiVir PersonalEdition Classic, at www.free-av.com
It's worked great for me so far, and it's free.
I use that along with Spybot Search and Destroy with TeaTimer to prevent registry changes.

Incorrect. Numerous tests have proved MacAffee is more popular and cheap, but Norton and Symantec are better.

PirateInferno 01-23-2008, 07:31 PM My Symantec is good for me.
alubadubdub 01-23-2008, 08:05 PM We use Norton's anti-virus system.
Disney101 01-23-2008, 08:19 PM I use Trend Micro PC Cillian.
MinniesDream 01-23-2008, 08:38 PM I use Zone Alarm, AVG Anti-Spyware, and sometimes Spybot.
PaperClip 01-23-2008, 10:07 PM AVG Internet Security.
PopCicleAye 01-23-2008, 10:11 PM I use Norton.

Whipstersh 01-24-2008, 09:09 PM Norton interferes with all my programs and takes up too much space.
I use Ad-Aware SE Personal for deleting Adware, and I use Trend Micro PC-cillian Internet Security 2007 for everything else. I plan to update the Trend though - expires sometime this month.
dabaseballking 01-24-2008, 09:14 PM Norton is what we use.
MaddieLyn 01-24-2008, 09:32 PM I use Norton =]
strikemaster 01-24-2008, 09:34 PM WooHoo for Norton and Symantec!

PaperClip 01-26-2008, 03:58 AM Let me ask all you Norton users something: Have you ever noticed that your computer's not running as fast as it was when you first got it?
That's because Norton is a huge memory/performance hog. ;)
Just thought I should point that out.
aggieathlete 01-26-2008, 04:03 AM McAfee is the one I use, but it isn't free....
Another one that is really really great is AVG Free Edition. I highly recommend it to all who are looking for a Great Program for free :)
kittenofthenight 01-26-2008, 04:46 AM I have bit defender, Version 8 or something. Its good, but it scans for updates like 20 times a day and really annoying
PopCicleAye 01-26-2008, 04:54 AM My computer is actually faster since I have started using Norton.. ;).

LOL that explained it.. <g>
AVG is pretty good and i have a feeling avast is going to go out my door and avg will replace it.. avast doesnt have a scheduled scan, which really bugs me.. as for norton.. had it once, will never get it again..
mcafee and pcillin i thought were both good.. just not free enough for me ;)
thanks for all the replies ;) seems like chocosmoothie is the closest to my configuration here..
PaperClip 01-26-2008, 05:53 PM AVG Internet Security's the best deal out there that I've found so far.
Also, I know that I bash Norton a lot, but I do use Norton Ghost ;)
