Just wondering what eveyone else uses.. Do you use free ones, do you pay? And what programs do you use? if you use more than one, what combination do you find works best together? thanks!

my laptop had pcillin on it, but it expired.. so, i usually use AVG-free edition with their spyware program, but this time i decided to go with avast (why does this not run on a schedule? O_o so far, my only gripe..).. but i have noticed with avast, you need like a billion (ok not that many) programs to protect everything.. so after some research, this was what i came up with.. i have
avast
zone alarm (better firewall than windows from what i hear)
advanced windows care v2 (which totally beats ccleaner..) and
Spyware Terminator 2(used to use spybot search and destroy..)
does it sound like i am protected enough?

I use McAffee, much better than Norton and Symantec, McAffee normally costs about $80 a year, but I get it free from comcast.
You MAY be protected enough, but most likely you are not. Dont use free programs, they never are strong enough.

I've always used Avira AntiVir PersonalEdition Classic, at www.free-av.com

It's worked great for me so far, and it's free.

I use that along with Spybot Search and Destroy with TeaTimer to prevent registry changes.

Incorrect. Numerous tests have proved MacAffee is more popular and cheap, but Norton and Symantec are better.

Norton interferes with all my programs and takes up too much space.

I use Ad-Aware SE Personal for deleting Adware, and I use Trend Micro PC-cillian Internet Security 2007 for everything else. I plan to update the Trend though - expires sometime this month.

Let me ask all you Norton users something: Have you ever noticed that your computer's not running as fast as it was when you first got it?

That's because Norton is a huge memory/performance hog. ;)

Just thought I should point that out.

McAfee is the one I use, but it isn't free....

Another one that is really really great is AVG Free Edition. I highly recommend it to all who are looking for a Great Program for free :)

LOL that explained it.. <g>

AVG is pretty good and i have a feeling avast is going to go out my door and avg will replace it.. avast doesnt have a scheduled scan, which really bugs me.. as for norton.. had it once, will never get it again..

mcafee and pcillin i thought were both good.. just not free enough for me ;)

thanks for all the replies ;) seems like chocosmoothie is the closest to my configuration here..

AVG Internet Security's the best deal out there that I've found so far.

Also, I know that I bash Norton a lot, but I do use Norton Ghost ;)
