View Full Version : Double standard
RicksCafe 01-09-2008, 03:15 PM Why is it ok for some people to post critical and hurtful comments about the Best Guest Room winners, and it's not ok for me to assert my disgust at such continued hurtful behavior on this board?

So their harmful and unhelpful posts remain and mine get deleted by the mods.
I expect a public answer.

PaperClip 01-09-2008, 03:56 PM I've noticed the same thing, and see where you're coming from with this.
It's as if one or more of the mods is showing favoritism to them, the way I see it...
mrmyth 01-09-2008, 04:24 PM I think the issue was a personal attack versus an attack of an idea (room design - award given).
I did read the post and saw your reply, which I mostly agreed with. I did see the conflict though and understand why it was deleted. Personally I think there were way too many sour grapes over this week's choices of awards and I do believe some were sounding a bit childish and jealous.
I do not think that there is any favoritism being shown - It's all in how you word it.
P.s. - since the first post singles people out - expect this to be altered or deleted as well.
Everyone has a right to an opinion - nobody has to agree with it though.
TravisSch 01-09-2008, 05:20 PM I'm sorry if I got anyone upset over this. I was just voicing my opinion. I do congratulate the winners this week. However, it was just an opinion I added.
I am sorry if I offended anyone. :(
Ali-Rae 01-09-2008, 05:27 PM aww, I get what your saying ricks but no need to single any people out! people get angry that their room didn't get picked, ect. and they might say something they'll later regret. It's a mistake, and everyone makes them!
RicksCafe 01-09-2008, 05:43 PM I think the issue was a personal attack versus an attack of an idea (room design - award given).I'm afraid you're mistaken. All posts, not just mine, that asked why the mods allowed such hurtful comments to remain were deleted.Everyone has a right to an opinion - nobody has to agree with it though.Your right to an opinion does not give you the right to hurt others. As my deleted post said, in it's great wisdom: just because you think a thing, does not mean you have to say a thing.
I am sorry if I offended anyone. :(Thank you for editing your original comments, TravisSch. That shows class.
aww, I get what your saying ricks but no need to single any people out! Since the mods did not recognize malignity when they saw it, I had to draw it to their attention somehow.
It's a mistake, and everyone makes them!TravisSch realized his mistake and did the right thing. I hope the others will realize theirs.

Dizzy 01-09-2008, 08:05 PM Not all posts are immediately caught by moderators, and this is why we really rely on the help of our members to report posts that are out of line. By the time I got to this thread, comments had been deleted from the thread in question, so I have no idea what was said. As stated, you should report posts that are a problem and you can send private messages to any mod/admin asking why your own posts have been deleted. But since two wrongs do not make a right, you should not post names (definitely against the rules) about people you think are breaking the rules. Doesn't make much sense, does it? ;)
GoofyGeggy 01-09-2008, 08:09 PM I thought a few times about sending a pm to a mod about that thread, but mine is a voice that is usually merely tolerated and not necessarily sought after, so I decided against it.
I also looked at the "rule" of Flaming, and saw many posts that were hateful or mean in nature. Most of those were deleted overnight, but there were still one or two around when I checked this morning.
I do appreciate your post bringing attention to the need for moderation (mostly self-moderation by others on the attack), and also appreciate you making this thread for a discussion on the matter, RicksCafe.
RicksCafe 01-09-2008, 08:21 PM you should not post names (definitely against the rules) about people you think are breaking the rules. Doesn't make much sense, does it? ;)It's a pity you deleted my list of names, since now those members' posts are still there. Unedited. Unmoderated. Venomous in content to say the least.
sunnyskye 01-09-2008, 08:35 PM See, a mod must have deleted some comments. :) I know some of my comments were deleted. There are a lot of flame posts, and Mods can't catch them the minute they get posted. But in my opinion, the Mods do an excellent job of deleting posts.
RicksCafe 01-09-2008, 08:47 PM ...the Mods do an excellent job of deleting posts.Oh they most certainly do. Whyyyy... I've had three posts deleted here just today about seven flaming posts on that other thread... which are still there... undeleted or even unedited.
Rattlebones 01-09-2008, 09:00 PM If you have an issue with a post/thread report it.
If you haven't reported them, don't post a rebuttal to the posts in the thread. It will be considered trolling.
If you have reported them, we will evaluate the posts (eventually). I believe you've received the public answer you wanted. The other thread is under review and this one is closed.
