View Full Version : Rep? Not Again! Extras 12-25-2007, 07:04 AM I just saw that the rep system is up. Aiaiai, is it EKB again? Last time I was here he put it up... dang rabbit. PinkTinkPixie 12-25-2007, 07:27 AM Hahaha. I've never really minded the rep system, as long as it doesn't get out of control like it sometimes will. I think it makes people want to be more careful about what they post, and it definately controls spam. ~Pink Sephiroth 12-25-2007, 08:32 AM Yes, my brother iShadow has told me once of reputation points on VMKF. They are back now, I suppose as a Christmas/Holiday gift to VMKF? the_phoenix 12-25-2007, 08:39 AM I wonder why.... - looks at Batleth - Did someone accidentally pressed with the wrong button again? Sephiroth 12-25-2007, 08:41 AM Haha. Batleth is viewing this thread. He must be wondering what us regular members are thinking about this little added system. Grooveygrl 12-25-2007, 09:23 AM Hmm maybe it's for today only since it's christmas? :D StitchMad 12-25-2007, 12:14 PM Rep.. finds out who can handle it, and also seperates the men from the mice. :) Extras 12-25-2007, 01:41 PM StitchMad, hahaha, you're rare :) TheBird 12-25-2007, 02:08 PM Stitch is an Eye Pin. I'll write that down to blackmail him later, hehe. warner 12-25-2007, 02:20 PM Interesting. I still just can't seem to understand why they do this again and then take it away, again and then take it away... Well, I really don't have much of a problem with it. SillyBrightPuppy 12-25-2007, 02:38 PM its back interesting - Silly FlyingCinder 12-25-2007, 03:08 PM Interesting. I always loved to have rep. It really makes you feel good and happy inside when you see that someone thought your pots was polite and helpful. Of course there will always be people who aren't mature enough to follow the 'rules' for using it and then of course I expect it to be removed once it gets out of control. Oh well, Merry Christmas everyone! :xgrin: KEBSD 12-25-2007, 04:38 PM I just looked on the home page, and at the top where it shows my picture and everything, it says I have _ rep. Is it back? EDIT: It's on my posts, too. Sorry if this was already posted. ~Key Sephiroth 12-25-2007, 04:41 PM Yes, Rep is back, and I'm not sure for how long. It's unexplained. TeddyYeti 12-25-2007, 04:56 PM You'd think we would have learned from previous accounts that this is not something we need. Is it really important how many green lines you have? I still don't understand why this is needed, and probably never will. Stemaboat_Tyler 12-25-2007, 05:01 PM Not to sound stupid, but what is rep? strikemaster 12-25-2007, 05:01 PM I still like the idea. I have been finding a lot of posts that are really helpful, therefore I give a tn of rep! ~Strike Sephiroth 12-25-2007, 05:10 PM Not to sound stupid, but what is rep? Rep is short for "Reputation". Reputation in this site is represented by points, and points are awarded or decreased by fellow VMKFers. Your points are shown by green blocks, and you obtain more green blocks as you gain more rep points. You may also lose your points, if someone chooses to give you negative rep points. You can see your increases and decreases of rep points in your user control panel. coolJamz 12-25-2007, 05:34 PM Xiaolin how did you get two rep bars by the afternoon ? waffles 12-25-2007, 05:45 PM Eh, I guess I will have to deal with rep. Extras 12-25-2007, 05:57 PM waffles, you can disable it. waffles 12-25-2007, 05:58 PM How do I disable rep? Kitri 12-25-2007, 05:59 PM Have many times have we had it taken away from us? TeddyYeti 12-25-2007, 06:03 PM Have many times have we had it taken away from us? More than enough. SVU_Girl_Elphabet 12-25-2007, 06:05 PM I honestly am indifferent. The good reps make me feel happy, and the bad reps are laughed at by my friends and I. Jezibabe 12-25-2007, 06:27 PM You'd think we would have learned from previous accounts that this is not something we need. Is it really important how many green lines you have? I still don't understand why this is needed, and probably never will. I am with you on this one.. never understood it either. I mean it's always nice to hear good things about what you post, but after a while it's more of a strive to be popular in other people's eyes. Penguinz 12-25-2007, 06:59 PM Always seems to come back for the Holidays, every holiday at that. Kitri 12-25-2007, 07:01 PM Always seems to come back for the Holidays, every holiday at that. Lol, but I think I always am about something. slinkyman 12-25-2007, 09:02 PM Isn't there a reason why it has been removed 2/3 times? Mooshu 12-25-2007, 09:14 PM At least we have the disable button. :/ DarthMelissa 12-25-2007, 10:49 PM Let me be honest, I really don't get why people hit the roof when it is released....I REALLY don't. So there are some little green bars, big deal. There are certainly other things I could think of to complain about. If you really and truly don't like it, then disable it. Some of us don't really care about it either way. Some others will let it control their life. But really...just a couple of little green bars. Not the end of the world. Again, what should you do if it bothers you? Disable it, then you don't have to worry about it. Always seems to come back for the Holidays, every holiday at that. That's right. We activate rep for most holidays for those who enjoy using it, but keeping it limited so it doesn't cause too many problems as it has in the past. This limited usage of it seems to keep it fun while everyone is off school or work and yet get to the problem child that it was when it was on full time. If there are no problems or limited problems, I'm hoping to keep rep on till Jan. 2. But that is mainly up to the users and if it because a problem. la4gator 12-25-2007, 11:15 PM bah...:xshocked: i dont really care about rep whether it is there or not. i dont like it for one reason about the fact people treat it like a popularity contest luckyone 12-25-2007, 11:18 PM wat is rep?? la4gator 12-25-2007, 11:22 PM wat is rep?? rep is points u earn if one likes your post. they can give you points by clicking the scale on the top left corner of the post Kitri 12-26-2007, 12:15 AM It's not that rep bothers me. I'm just not sure why we have it is all. But I guess it's really sort of an option thing. Pixie_Jess 12-26-2007, 12:27 AM OOOOOOOH! Now I get it! I never knew where those little bars came from. I noticed them once, I can't remeber when, but they dissapeared the following day and I didn't think about them until today, when I saw them again... Seems to me, with all due respect to every single admin and mod, very point less, but eh, what are you going to do about it(you could desable it from the look of it). ^_^ Pixie_Jess XOXOXOXOXOX Ali-Rae 12-26-2007, 01:52 AM woot! i loved rep! i was so sad when they took it down before ;) Baconbits 12-26-2007, 01:55 AM I don't mind at all. As long as my rep does not go into negative bars . . . lol! Capn_Brain 12-26-2007, 01:57 AM I kinda like it...and its no big deal if it comes back. Don't like it? Just don't look at it and forget about it. Its only small green bars that are not easy to see. Really let them release it when they want...besides I wanna know what ppl think about me... DarthMelissa 12-26-2007, 02:40 AM I don't mind at all. As long as my rep does not go into negative bars . . . lol! I believe that having the rep go into negative red was disabled. I would ask Batleth just to make sure, but I think that is the case. besides I wanna know what ppl think about me... This is what makes people think it turns into a popularity contest, it shouldn't be what people think about YOU, it should be what people think about your POSTS. THIS is where people get confused. I like it when people take the time to leave a comment on a post that I have left that they felt contributed to the forums. Because then I know that posts like that are what others find useful. But hey, I've got a lot of posts and most haven't been rated, so I could say that no one likes me, but I know that's not the case. I have some good friends on here and I don't need green bars to tell me what others think of me. So again, use rep as a gauge of the useful'ness of your posts, nothing more, nothing less. Batleth 12-26-2007, 04:55 AM I believe that having the rep go into negative red was disabled. I would ask Batleth just to make sure, but I think that is the case.Only mods and admins may now give negative rep. I'm sure many have a null rep when they try to rep people. They don't have enough points in rep to effect a user one way or another. Oh nice, so we gotta be nice to you then? JK! Good to know that the average user can't slam someone because of personal issues. Thanks for clearing that up Bat! How can you see people's comments? Click on User Cp and the comments should be displayed in the middle of your screen :) Darenator 12-26-2007, 06:45 AM People can only put good rep so nothing to worry about :) Whipstersh 12-26-2007, 02:08 PM What does it mean if you acquired reputation that is gray? You have disabled other members' abilities to add or subtract (though subtracting is no longer an option) to your reputation. Whipstersh 12-26-2007, 02:14 PM I don't think that's it.. here's an image of what it is: Sorry, I thought you meant in the user's name bar. I could be mistaken, but I believe that refers to a member who tried to give you some reputation (good or bad), but they didn't have enough experience on the boards (depending what this forum is set on it could be different, but I believe it is dependent on your post count) to make any impact on your reputation. EtnaGreen 12-26-2007, 02:37 PM Good thing only mods can subtract, because some people on here.. strongly dislike me. But since you can turn it off and on, and only mods can subtract I dont see a problem. One question though, how do you rate people's posts? DarthMelissa 12-26-2007, 03:37 PM Sorry, I thought you meant in the user's name bar. I could be mistaken, but I believe that refers to a member who tried to give you some reputation (good or bad), but they didn't have enough experience on the boards (depending what this forum is set on it could be different, but I believe it is dependent on your post count) to make any impact on your reputation. From what I understand, that is correct, as far as the gray square in the rep comments. There are a number of factors to your rep power, not just post count. If that was the case, then Xiaolin would have higher rep power than myself. It has to do with how much rep you have received from others as well. Like if Schmoofy or StitchMad were to give me rep (or Batleth even ;)) it would be far greater than if DarthRobbie or TheBird were to give it to me. I'm not 100% on if there are other factors as well, but you may want to confer with Batleth to get the complete and total facts :) Good thing only mods can subtract, because some people on here.. strongly dislike me. But since you can turn it off and on, and only mods can subtract I dont see a problem. One question though, how do you rate people's posts? See below To give rep to a post, click on the scales on the right side of the post. It's above your location and stuff, next to the Post #. To read comments given to you, click on User CP, scroll down beneath any subscribed threads and wham, there they are :) Tyrannosaurus 12-26-2007, 04:21 PM Rep makes me feel happy! If there was no rep id be a puddle of soup! Well im glad rep is back. but ive had bad times and people gave me bad things if it doesnt make any sense..I explanied it my hardest bee2u 12-26-2007, 04:58 PM I think some new phrases were added.. What does it mean if you acquired reputation that is gray? It means the rep didn't effect you at all. Since only mods or admins can now give negative, this could be what shows up if anyone else tries to give you negative rep. Centurey 12-26-2007, 05:05 PM I really dont mind rep. its here, we cant give negitive rep, so why even bother complaining! Nobody's gonna die or anything because of it. TeddyYeti 12-26-2007, 05:20 PM Batleth, why not keep it up forever then? If the same problems occur over and over, don't you think they'll happen again whether or not you can give good/bad rep. It still doesn't seem right that we can only give good rep and not bad rep. It's like taking responcibility for the good things and not the bad. What if I disagree with someone's post? Am I supposed to give them good rep with the message "good job, i disagree with you!!"..If reps back, why not give us the full effect? It's gonna be gone anyway. lemonysnicket3 12-26-2007, 05:34 PM Yay! Rep is back! I would prefer it if it was kept until a problem arose. DarthMelissa 12-26-2007, 07:01 PM I really dont mind rep. its here, we cant give negitive rep, so why even bother complaining! Nobody's gonna die or anything because of it. Well said. My point exactly. Batleth, why not keep it up forever then? If the same problems occur over and over, don't you think they'll happen again whether or not you can give good/bad rep. It still doesn't seem right that we can only give good rep and not bad rep. It's like taking responcibility for the good things and not the bad. What if I disagree with someone's post? Am I supposed to give them good rep with the message "good job, i disagree with you!!"..If reps back, why not give us the full effect? It's gonna be gone anyway. Unfortunately there are people that would give bad rep because they don't like someone. So it makes sense that you shouldn't be able to give bad red. More rep should be a reward. Post good informative information and watch your rep grow. Just post silly little things and it will most likely stay in the same place. Yay! Rep is back! I would prefer it if it was kept until a problem arose. Heh. It's already a problem YET again. I mean, look at the title of the post we are all posting in. It's obviously not a widespread problem because, honestly, I think most people could give a horse's back leg about it, but yeah, we don't live in a perfect world, so there will always be problems. goofy_bout_mickey 12-26-2007, 07:13 PM How does this rep thing work?:xhuh: flaxygirl 12-26-2007, 07:14 PM Since i only have 1 rep power i guess when i give people coments it doesnt matter at all? How does this rep thing work?:xhuh: Well you can click on the scale up on top of someones post and leave a comment. And that can add to there Rep Power, the little green squares. DarthMelissa 12-26-2007, 07:28 PM Since i only have 1 rep power i guess when i give people coments it doesnt matter at all? IT does matter, you are giving them one more point towards their total rep. How does this rep thing work?:xhuh: Basically people can "rate" your posts. If they find them helpful. It gives you "rep". You can see how many rep points you have on the front of the forums site. If you look in the middle section where it has your name and like how many posts are new, how many PM's you have, you see the green squares and above it, it says rep power. That is how many "points" you give someone when you give them positive rep. Rep is based on more than just number of posts, I think it includes how long you've been a member as well, but I'm not 100% on that. As you gain rep points for your posts from others, you can more green squares and more rep points for when YOU rate others. So like in past examples I've used, Schmoofy and StitchMad would have more rep points when they rate you, vs like TheBird or DarthRobbie. To give rep, you click on the little scale icon that is located on the right side, next to the post #. You can view the rep comments given and for the particular post by clicking on the User CP and looking in the middle section. Hopefully that answers your basic questions on rep. flaxygirl 12-26-2007, 08:14 PM Is there a wat to view someones elses comments people make? Some people think that they more they post, the more people see them and the better chance they have at getting rep points. While it can be a good tool if used properly, it can cause problems too. On one forum, it got so bad with people using it against people they didn't like for whatever reasons. Some peope also used it as an opportunity to call people ugly names. That's when that forum finally got rid of the system permanently. I just hope that it doesn't get out of control. :) *edit* I just read that the negative rep has been disabled. Maybe I'm just not understanding this system at all, but if I am, I don't think I like it too much. Destination 12-30-2007, 12:05 AM Why is it gone now? Because I just tried to give someone rep and the little scale thing is gone from everyone. Destination 12-30-2007, 12:39 AM How many points does it take to move up to the next bar? Whipstersh 12-30-2007, 11:37 AM I used the members list and scrolled the entire thing, and this is all of the bar values! :) Bar 1 is also: Is a Guest awaiting a title. Haveamagicalday 12-30-2007, 04:28 PM There seems to be more than one meaning for them. The first one has, I think I've seen, four. The 7th one I've seen say as popular as a HOST_ room (words may not be exactly the same). ~HAMD coolJamz 12-30-2007, 05:19 PM i was gone for two days- and recived two more rep points! xD I have 52 rep points :D I love rep! lol Friez 01-01-2008, 11:53 PM I'd love to get in on this disscusion but what are rep points? bee2u 01-02-2008, 12:30 AM Bar -1 = Is lost in the Big Thunder Mountain maze, Needs to spend more time reading the rules and values Bar 0 = Rep is disabled Bar 1 = Is a Guest awaiting a title, Is on a quest for more knowledge, Knows their way around the kingdom, Is as bright as an Astro Orbiter Lamp Bar 2 = Can find all of the Hidden Mickeys, Can pull the sword from the stone Bar 3 = Can pull the sword from the stone, Dances with the Yeti, Has earned a Mint Julep from the Gator Waitor Bar 4 = Has earned a Mint Julep from the Gator Waitor, Can see good things in the future using Madame Leota's Crystal Ball Bar 5 = Can see good things in the future using Madame Leota's Crystal Ball, Is as popular as a HOST Guest room Bar 6 = Is as popular as a HOST Guest room, Is like Dancing Inferno Magic - Hot! TheBird 01-02-2008, 12:37 AM I thought you couldn't have negative rep points? Batleth 01-02-2008, 01:41 AM The rep from before is saved. So if you got negative rep before, you still have it now. I thought you couldn't have negative rep points? That's correct. We've never cleared everyone's rep. So whatever you had before will carry over. Mods can still derep people though. DarthMelissa 01-02-2008, 03:08 AM I thought you couldn't have negative rep points? Just be good and listen to Batleth and you should never have to worry about bad rep :) TheMagicWithin 01-02-2008, 03:41 AM Rep is still here. I didn't notice Tyrannosaurus 01-02-2008, 01:24 PM Rep...is...GONE!! It cant be true...ill miss rep. Whipstersh 01-02-2008, 02:25 PM Rep...is...GONE!! It cant be true...ill miss rep. It was scheduled to go on the 2nd. MinniesDream 01-02-2008, 02:26 PM I'm tired of it coming and going! This makes me mad. Either you have rep, or you don't! DarthMelissa 01-02-2008, 03:48 PM You two need to look at what Bat said below. Rep...is...GONE!! It cant be true...ill miss rep. I'm tired of it coming and going! 2. But that is mainly up to the users and if it because a problem. iImagine 01-02-2008, 06:49 PM What is rep, exactly? MinniesDream 01-02-2008, 06:54 PM DarthMelissa- thanks! coolJamz 01-02-2008, 09:17 PM awwwww i miss rep already! it was fun to be good and collect it ;) TravisSch 01-02-2008, 10:58 PM Aww, rep is gone again. :( awwwww i miss rep already! it was fun to be good and collect it ;) You mean you were being good during this time just to get rep?
