View Full Version : New Changes in WDW Florida
SafariLyssaOnVMK 12-23-2007, 07:54 PM WDW has had alot of changes to it in the 35 years or so that it's been open. Some of these changes I like exept some I don't. First off, they changed the alian(sp?) ride 2 Stich's Great Escape! I never got 2 go on it because when it was open I was so young that my parents wouldn't let me because they thought it would scare me(It probably would at that time because when I was like 6 I was scared of the snow white ride). Unless they have one @ DLR I'm never gonna go on it! :xsad: I also don't like some of their recent promos(promotions). Seriously, Cinderelabration? People can bearly even say the name! Plus, Its pretty much the story of Cinderella wich most people these days already know. What you you like/dislike about the recent changes at the WDW Florida themepark?
EtnaGreen 12-23-2007, 08:09 PM I am glad they changed alein encounter to stitches great escape, alein incounter was really stupid their was a really fake alein in a tube you could bearly see through and it breathed on your neck and everyone said it was scary?! I am very sad they took out the barber shop from main street, me and my brother got our hair cut their almost every year ( it was pretty cool they would put color in your hair and but little mickey hair clips in your hair. I am mad they took at mr. Toads wild ride and put the pooh bear ride in. didn't enjoy that they changed the outside of its a small world. I hope i am glad they changed haunted mansion, i will find out during spring break. I am glad they changed pirates, its pretty cool now. I am glad they took out the lion king show at magic kingdom and put in mickeys philarmagic. I am glad the put test track and mission to space in at EPCOT. Not so glad they took away food rocks, that was really cool. I am upset they took out who wants to be a millionare and Doug live!. I am also not amused they put playhouse disney in. I am mad they took part of backlot tour out and put in the stunt show that is really boring. I am glad they put pop century and animal kingdom lodge at WDW.
I really am dissapointed that they changed Alien Encounter. I thought it was an awesome ride. I haven't been on the new version with Stitch, so I can't say much about it, but I will miss the original.
EtnaGreen 12-23-2007, 08:22 PM Can someone explain why alein encounter was so good of a ride, because i dont get it?
Stemaboat_Tyler 12-23-2007, 08:49 PM I Wanted To Ride Alien Encounter So Bad, but when I went there, they were building the stitch ride. Me and my cousin rode it over and over 10 times in a row we loved it. He even spit on me :)
thundurga 12-23-2007, 11:25 PM Lets remember one thing. Alien Encounter/Stitch's Great Escape, are pretty much the same. The rules stated by the robot are the same. It is just a different layout and character. Plus as i have stated in many threads, Disney does this because these are the money makers, and items people can relate to. We also need to remember that Tomorrowland has become what i refer to as yesterdayland. It needs to be feriously updated. We need thigs like nano technology in there.
EtnaGreen 12-23-2007, 11:30 PM thundurga could you please explain how it is a yesterdayland and what nano technology is? ( I feel stupid )
SafariLyssaOnVMK 12-24-2007, 11:52 PM We also need to remember that Tomorrowland has become what i refer to as yesterdayland. It needs to be feriously updated.
Hmmm...Why yesterdayland? I mean, I know tthe rides are old, but it doesn't make sense to call it 'yesterdayland'.
EtnaGreen 12-26-2007, 03:04 PM I dont think it is yesterday land. How many aleins do you see running around? How many kids do you see drive cars? How many spacce rangers do you see? Not very many people go to space. How many people do you know take the transit authority to work? How many restaruants do you see with the singing aleins? As for the carousel of progress, you can't change all of the classics.
DCAfriend 12-31-2007, 10:57 PM I dont think it is yesterday land. How many aleins do you see running around? How many kids do you see drive cars? How many spacce rangers do you see? Well...lets begin.
As of now, aliens are sci-fi. I give you a point there.
Kids driving cars...now that would be foolish for a society like ours to consider legal. Most children today have problems with simply waiting a few minutes for something (short attention span). Now, imagine a place where people as young as 5 years of age are driving on our highway systems at the speed of 75 mph.
What is also foolish is placing a speedway themed attraction with a retro fuel source. I mean...gasoline? We now have hydro-electric vehicles that requires no gasoline to power itself. I dont even know what the Indy-Speedway has to do with tomorrow...do you?
Traveling into space...not so futuristic. Believe it or not (for it is happening), but they are actually building a real spaceport in New Mexico where you will be able to pay to take a flight ship into space (basically, its a private jet, but that goes into space).
Taking a transit authority to work...it happens in many major cities around the world (ex. Chicago Transit Authoirty, New York Transit Authority...). There are such things as elevated trains and people movers.
Carousel of Progress...it's a great classic (I enjoy the ride), but it displays nothing about the world of tomorrow. This attraction as well has fallen into the world of yesterday.
I like Tomorrowland...do not get me wrong. It is my favorite Disneyland-style land. The land is looks amazing during the evening hours and it is a great place to ride fun attractions...but it really is not a place to learn about the future or to experience what it could be like. The world has caught up to and even passed up Tomorrowland.
So...where is that nano-technology?
WDW Monorail 01-06-2008, 06:49 PM Get ready for some major changes to Downtown Disney very soon, aside from T-Rex opening.
Schmoofy 01-06-2008, 07:12 PM Get ready for some major changes to Downtown Disney very soon, aside from T-Rex opening.
I've been hearing this as well. Many PI clubs are closing and there's going to be a new system of ticketing, but no word if that's for just the PI area.
TheFireworkZach 01-07-2008, 03:02 AM Here is a big one that everyone has known about but is actually happening. Tomorrow marks the day that Disney's MGM Studios will not exist anymore and will also mark the addition of Disney Hollywood Studios, there will probably be very little change tomorrow but within a few months, it will be all set and done. They will probably just change the park guides/maps and maybe some trash cans and merchandise for tomorrow.

MagicMonkeys 01-07-2008, 03:10 PM I really wanted to do the timekeeper, but I love what they changed it into.
MinniesDream 01-07-2008, 03:29 PM I am glad they changed alein encounter to stitches great escape, alein incounter was really stupid their was a really fake alein in a tube you could bearly see through and it breathed on your neck and everyone said it was scary?! Haunted Mansion- Oh it is so cool now. I went to WDW a week or two ago and I was not expecting the Haunted Mansion to be so much more like the movie; I knew they changed it, but not so much! And I do not want to spoil the ride for you, but I will tell you this so you can get a picture of how much they tried to change it: The Madame Leota Ball used to be sitting on the table. Now it floats. ;)
Pop Century- That hotel is really cool. We got to walk up the giant Rubix Cube! My favorite hotel that I've stayed at is probably the Wilderness Lodge, though.
GoofyLuke 01-07-2008, 08:29 PM Stitch's Great Escape was BORING.

First of all, it's NOT A THEME PARK. Walt Disney wanted his parks to never be called theme parks. They're "Parks & Resorts".
Anyway, the Alien ride was un-Disney and really stupid. Plus, it was always breaking down. I was at WDW the year before they tore it down and people were stuck inside it for 9 hours.
You spelled Cinderellabration wrong - maybe that's why you can't say it. It isn't the story of Cinderella at all. Perhaps you've never actually seen it. It's also not a promo. It's a show.
The thing that I hate about what Disney is doing right now? The prices, and YoaMD. They've lowered the prices on everything and now every two-bit scumbag in the world is coming to Florida with their full-diapered kids and have no idea what to do. And all also happen to weigh 400+ pounds. It's ridiculous.
I want 90's prices back. Then Disney would be classy again.

Actullay, I've seen snipets of it. I think you got the words theme and amusement mixed up because I heard that he went to great mesures to call it a theme park and not an amusement park.

Actually, you're correct. I did mix up "theme" and "amusement". Please forgive my error.
Cinderellabration isn't very like the real Cinderella story - it features all of the Disney Princesses and various other Disney Characters, and is a prolonged variation on Cindy and the Prince's Wedding.
Pinkglitter 01-07-2008, 11:17 PM i mad they closed the thingy down next to small world i forgot the name i alway wanted to go on it. Nobody no wat i am talking about will be my guess. and know it just sits up there :( :(

Do you mean that they closed it's a small world at Disneyland? Because they did - the boats need to be fixed because passengers are so fat these days, they sink the boats.

They actually DID change the Carousel. It used to be a bit longer, now it just makes a HUGE leap.
There are a LOT of kids that drive cars now.
Astronauts and Cosmonauts anyone?
What kind of "alien" do you mean? Alien's true term is a thing or person that is unusual. A caucasian woman would be an alien in a group of 3 Afro-American males (:O Family Matters reference!)
Let's take Guitar Hero III. Xavier Stone is Afro-American. He preforms in places with some bass guy with no face, a person with girly hair, and a person who smiles too much. All 3 of them are Caucasian. Therefore, all of this stuff is happening at the moment.
Now if you used the term "Martian", then I'd be beat.

Oh. The building that now hosts Mickey's PhillarMagic.
Well, that building has hosted 4 shows:
The Mickey Mouse Revue 1971-1980 (It's at Tokyo now)
Magic Journeys 1987-1993
Legend of the Lion King 1993(esque) - 2001(esque)
I don't think you were missing much not seeing the Legend of the Lion King - the really awesome show would have been Mickey's Revue. I want to go to TDL now and see it.
lemonysnicket3 01-07-2008, 11:33 PM Stitch's Great Escape was BORING.

Oh, the Skyway.
wdmountie 01-10-2008, 04:10 AM There has been so many changes at WDW it hard to go through a complete list. But let me start with the first change brought up.
Magic Kingdom
Alien Encounters now Stitch - They ruined the ride in my opinion. It's really kind of dumb now. Granted I never really liked AE all that much. But it had the "thrill" factor. It was really neat to have the alien breathe on your neck, and his tongue lick your head. I hated the movement of the shoulder pads. That hurts in my opinion. But now...Stitch just burps an awful smell behind you. Everything else is pretty much the same except it is not as scary. Another thing that bugged me is Robin Williams was taken out of the beginning. It was really sad.
Staying in Tomorrowland. Buzz Light-years Space Ranger Spin is new as well as the Monsters Inc. Laugh Floor. The Laugh Floor replaced yet another Robin Williams attraction, the Time Keeper. Buzz is really cute. I like how it’s made to be like an arcade. I don’t remember the ride previous for some reason, but I did look it up and it was called “Take Flight.” Minor Changes have been made to the other rides but nothing as dramatic.
Mickey’s Toontown. Complete 180! Totally different from how I remember it as a kid and it does sadden me. But they did add a ride – Goofy’s Barnstorm.
Fantasyland. I personally love the new Winnie the Pooh ride! I love how you get to bounce like Tigger and are caught up in the flood. It is very cute! I never cared for Mr. Toad’s Wild Ride. It jolted you around too much. They also added a Winnie the Pooh Play Spot. Oh this is so cute! I just saw this recently and think it is such a great idea! The new Mickey’s Philharmagic show is really cute…but I have to admit I liked the Lion King show just as much. So I would say it is a pretty even trade. I am sad to see that the 2,000 Leagues Under the Sea is gone. I did enjoy the ride. I was a bit corny but I liked it and was sad to see it go. I know they changed It’s a Small World around, but it was mostly just a paint job and a tune up for the little kids. The Skyway is gone. I think they were having problems with the saftey of this ride. I will miss this ride.
Liberty Square. The Haunted Mansion was just refurbished. Do not worry people they did not change the whole ride. Just adjusted a couple rooms and painted to spruce the place up a bit. For example, Madame Leota now speaks in time with the words. Her lips used to be a couple seconds off…lol. Now the Hall of Presidents I haven’t been on in years so I would probably guess that the major changes would be adding the newest presidents.
Frontierland. No major updates…just a referb on the Country Bears a couple years ago.
Adventureland. My favorite ride, Pirates, just got a new addition in light of the movies. Johnny Depp in now immortalized as Captain Jack Sparrow. He is now shown three times in the ride. In the beginning they show Davy Jones projected on a cloud of smoke. Lastly, Captain Blackheart (captain of the Wicked Wench) now has Captain Barbossa’s voice. They did edit the appearance of him too. Well the Tiki room is no long the old Tiki Room. Iago and Zazu make an appearance and update the songs. The Magic Carpet ride is fairly new also.
Main Street. Lots of changes have been made here. The Town Square Exposition Square keeps getting updated. During the 25th anniversary they handed out posters. Now it is a photo area. But last time I was there is was pretty dark. Main Street Cinema keeps changing. I remember when they aired great shorts like Steamboat Willie. They had it as VMK Central for awhile, but then closed it in September. Now it is reopened, but I did not bother to go in. Now the barber I keep hearing different stories about. I have never been there but my father did use to go. Also they no longer do the horse and carriage.
EPCOT
Spaceship Earth. Redone. I haven’t seen the new version yet. But I heard it is a new announcer. I was deeply saddened when they removed Walter Cronkite’s narration. And also when the changed the paperboys voice and the ending of the ride. But now, I have no idea what it looks like or if they even changed anything.
Body Works Pavilion. Closed. I miss Cranium Command
Universe of Energy. This ride was updated to include Ellen. But I can not seem to remember who used to be the host. Maybe someone can fill me in on that.
The Test Track. This ride is good now. Lines are way too long for it. The World of Motion used to be in it’s place.
Mission Space. Never been on. I have a heart murmur and experience motion sickness so I don’t think I will be going on this ride any time soon. But I have hear there is a milder version of the ride. But then, what’s the point? Horizon’s used to be in it’s place. I do miss the smell or oranges…
Honey I Shrunk the Audience. I do miss Captain EO, but I understand Disney had to pull it because of the 93 Michael Jackson accusations. I just thought it was the best.
Imagination. Don’t get me started on how they RUINED this ride! No Dreamfinder! I am very disappointed Disney! Very! This was my favorite ride.
Soarin’. Actually I do like this ride. Again lines are too long, but it is very good. Sad that Kitchen Cabaret had to go, but it was a little outdated and was not getting the attention.
The Land. The land was updated. I went on this recently and was surprised with what they did. A little more interesting now.
The Sea with Nemo. Love it! So much better now! So cute, but the line is deceiving now.
MGM – Now Hollywood Studios, as of 1-1-2008 (Will not get used to this)
Tower of Terror. Of course they update this one all the time with new drop sequences.
Rock’n’Roller Coaster. Depending on when you were there last. This opened in the 90s.
Playhouse Disney. Never seen it.
Millionaire is gone. They are refurbing to be a Toy Story attraction.
Great Movie Ride. The end movie was updated.
The one building next to GMR is not active right now. This used to hold, Star Search for those who remember. Then Doug. There could have been one more but I don’t remember.
Drew Carey’s Sounds Dangerous. Used to have a different host.
Star Tours. From what I heard, this will be updated.
Stunt Show. Still have not seen this so I can not judge.
Fantasmic. Pretty New. Basically Replaced the Sorcery In the Sky Fireworks show that was narrated by Vincent Price. There was also a big blow up Mickey at the End. I wonder what they did with him.
Of course the hat is new in front of the GMR.
Well that is a brief overview of the changed I have seen in the last 15 years. Hope this helps update some people. :wave2:
EDIT: I do have an edit on the Barber Shop on Main Street. This is a quote taken directly from the Disney Web Site (http://disneyworld.disney.go.com/wdw/parks/parkTips?id=MKLandingTipsPage). So I am not sure if Disney needs to update it's site or if it really is not there anymore. I might have my family go over and check this mystery out.
Did you know that you can get a haircut at the Magic Kingdom® Park? Visit the Harmony Barber Shop located beside the Car Barn on Main Street.

The new Narrator is voiced by Academy Award-Winning* actress Dame Judi Dench, who replaced former narrator, Jeremy Irons.
The new version of the ride is Okay, but not awesome.
* Academy Awards 1999. Best Performance by an Actress in a supporting role - Shakespeare in Love.
iImagine 01-10-2008, 02:23 PM Backlot Tour. Changed to Stunt Show. Still have not seen this so I can not judge.

I knew Jeremy Irons was the next narrator. He always freaked me out a bit when I was younger, because I kept hearing Scar (The Lion King) behind me. lol. Thanks for the update on the new one! Hopefully I will get to go on it in the Spring. :-)
The Backlot Tour is still there - the Stunt Show is just very close to it.
Oh good! I haven't wondered back there yet. I just heard it was closed. I always like the Tour. It was cute. I will update that info. Thanks!
SafariLyssaOnVMK 01-11-2008, 12:35 AM The backlot tour is now all about the Chronicles of Narnia. Buzz light year is new? Its been there as long as I can remember(which is like the maximum of 5 years).

The buzz lightyear lazer ride?
That ride is amazing. I like it because I shoot the people behind me with the lazer and they get all mad. :D
Nemofinder 01-11-2008, 12:56 AM Personally I love most of the changes, I love the pooh bear ride, and I have been on Mr. Toad's in DLR. idk I think stitch is a much better alien that that weird thing.. Personally I like a chili cheese dog burp, than some fog on my neck -.-
The backlot tour is now all about the Chronicles of Narnia. Buzz light year is new? Its been there as long as I can remember(which is like the maximum of 5 years).
I believe that the backlot tour is still normal, Journey Into Narnia is acompletely different thing.
wdmountie 01-11-2008, 03:48 AM The backlot tour is now all about the Chronicles of Narnia. Buzz light year is new? Its been there as long as I can remember(which is like the maximum of 5 years).
Yeah the Buzz Light-year ride is still fairly new. I think the Buzz ride opened before the release of the second movie. It opened toward the end 1998. Granted that is almost 10 years now, but there were still three other attractions that previously occupied that site. I was just making a note for someone who may not have been to WDW in about 10+ years. You have to remember WDW opened in 1971 - the Magic Kingdom is going to have it's 37 birthday soon. So I consider any changes in the past 10 years to be considered new. (I guess I am starting to show my age...:Unhappy:) Hope this clarifies my defination of new. Thanks for the input! :wave2:
Chele 01-11-2008, 06:10 AM I believe that the backlot tour is still normal, Journey Into Narnia is acompletely different thing.
The backlot tour has changed drastically over the years and is very pale in comparison to what it used to be. For example, when the park was an active studio, the tour took you through the live sound stages and sets. There was also a row of fake houses (sorry for the life of me I can't remember what they were called) that the tram drove through. Many of the houses exteriors were used in sitcoms and popular movies such as the Golden Girls. These house sets were torn down a few years ago to make room for the Lights! Action! Stunt Show!
At Epcot, I have to agree; I drastically miss Horizons (with the smell of the oranges) and DreamFinder (Imagination, imagination, a dream, a dream, and a dream come true! One little spark, from me to you). As far as The Universe of Energy, Ellen isn't the original narrator. I'm not sure who the original one was, but they didn't play as an intricate role as Ellen does. The original Universe of Energy was very dry with no humor however, very educational. When it was originally built, the technology used to create the large dinosaurs was cutting edge. These days, it appears dated and old and drastically needs an update.
Captain EO was great in the 80's when Michael Jackson was on the top of the music industry. The entire thing was like a 15 minute Michael Jackson music video equipped with dancing, singing, great costumes and the added benefit of 3D effects. Good at the time, but would be very stale for today’s audience.
Also gone at Epcot is The Living Seas (the original ride part). I can remember waiting in line for hours for the quick 2 minute omni-mover type ride through the fish aquarium. A total let down. I'm glad that the Nemo themed attraction has replaced it.
The Magic Kingdom has gone through the most changes over the years. And to keep drawling crowds each year, it will need to continue to strive for the correct balance of maintaining traditional attractions with newer ones. In my eyes, the greatest retired attraction is Mr. Toad's Wild Ride. I can remember this ride on my first visit to the Kingdom in (cough) 1975. Pooh is a cute replacement but doesn't hold the excitement and the "wild" aspect (at least for a little kid) as Toad did. RIP Mr. Toad. I'm glad to see him represented in several areas (handing the keys off in the pooh ride and as a grave stone in the pet cemetery at the Haunted Mansion).
Also long gone are: Mike Fink keel boats, Mission to the Moon (replaced by Alien Encounters and now Stitch's Great Escape), and the 360 degree theater (I forget the name) replaced by The Timekeeper and now the Monsters, Inc., Laugh Factory. Prior to Buzz, there was a smaller omni-mover type ride that changed names several times. I don't think the actual ride changed that much during the name changes -- maybe just a few updates here or there. I can vividly remember If You Had Wings (I believe sponsored by Eastern Airlines) in that location.
At one time, there were also small boats shaped liked Swans that ran on the smaller water ways around the castle. I have pictures of them outside of what is now the Crystal Palace.
Also, for the record (and people may shoot me for this), 20K Leagues was not that great of a ride. The theory and concept, yes. But not in reality. In the summer, the subs smelled of hot, stinky, sweaty people. And many of the sea life observed at the beginning of the ride had thick algae growing on it that was clearly visible though the sub windows.
The skyway was an awesome ride. This was an elevated cable car type ride that ran from just outside of It's a Small World to the building with the bathrooms next to Space Mountain (Fantasyland to Tomorrowland and back). What made it awesome were the views that could be seen. Tons of back stage areas, cast member parking, and roof tops (allowing visitors a glimpse at the warehouses of many of the top attractions). I'm surprised that the skyway ran for the years that it did since it broke the Magical Illusion that Disney worked so hard to create.
Disney is working on perfecting the perfect blend of new and old attractions to keep the faithful consumer returning year after year.
iImagine 01-11-2008, 03:40 PM ^Not to mention that Captain EO was the most expensive filming project ever made on a per-minute basis at the time^
And I agree, 20K was rather badly done.
I wish that I had gone to see the Timekeeper.
I went on Mr. Toad's Wild ride at DLR and it's amazing.
wdmountie 01-11-2008, 04:12 PM The backlot tour has changed drastically over the years and is very pale in comparison to what it used to be.
At one time, there were also small boats shaped liked Swans that ran on the smaller water ways around the castle. I have pictures of them outside of what is now the Crystal Palace.

You are right, the backlot tour has changed. I just don't know how much because I haven't rode in about 5 years. For the houses the did have the Talyor Home back there (Home Improvement), and also the Dog Dinner (The Rocketeer).
You know I do sort of remember swans on the lake. They seem to always want to try and add a cute boat ride to the parks (there was one at the Animal Kingdom when it first opened), but I think something always happens to shut it down.
Also has anyone seen how poorly the lakes have been taken care of when you ride the train? I couldn't believe the amount of algae coating the top of the lakes when I rode it this summer. I was really disappointed that Disney would allow something like that to occur, considering they are man made lakes. Also I think there were a couple changes to the train. If I am remembering correctly I don't think the narrator spoke the entire time like he used to. Also I think there are a few manikins missing. But again I don't know how accurate my memory is on this.
I like this..it makes me think and try and remember what used to be! :wave2:
PrincessWall 01-13-2008, 03:25 PM The old Tarzan Rocks show, in Animal Kingdom? SOOO happy they changed it to the Nemo show.
♥Wall
Thark 01-14-2008, 06:58 PM The Harmony Barbershop on Main Street U.S.A. Walt Disney World is still open and in working condition.
Neoteny 01-14-2008, 07:43 PM I much prefer Toad to Pooh, but my daughter (who's only a year old) prefers Pooh, so maybe I'm not the target audience there.
I'm glad Toad is still at Disneyland, at least, although I miss the Country Bears. Guess I'll have to keep coast-hopping.
EtnaGreen 01-14-2008, 08:45 PM The backlot tour is now all about the Chronicles of Narnia. Buzz light year is new? Its been there as long as I can remember(which is like the maximum of 5 years).
Yea, at MGM or another park they are adding a laser toy story laser ride, it looks extremely cool they showed it on the christmas day parade ( its more woody themed then buzz themed. Oh and skyway closed because an employee was injured.

Actually the employee did die but the SkyWay didn't close because of that, it was scheduled to close anyways but I guess it was just a bad turn of events. They are also opening Toy Story's Midway Mania at Disney's California Adventure so I MIGHT but probably won't be able to ride this when I go to DLR in May.
I think this ride will be a great fit for DHS and will also be a nice addition to the Paradise Pier area at DCA.

And here I always thought it was due to the liability of guests dropping things/spitting on other guests.
I am very much looking forward to the new Toy Story ride. :)

It was.. I'm just saying that the guy dying was a bad turn of events but had nothing to do with the operation of the ride or it's future.

EtnaGreen 01-15-2008, 08:37 PM Oh, sorry that is what my family always told me, sorry about the false information.

I'm talking about the ride at Magic Kingdom. Also, its not MGM anymore. It is Hollywood Studios as of 1-1-08.
Also, does MGM stand for anything? If it does, what did it stand for?
Neoteny 01-18-2008, 12:51 AM Also, does MGM stand for anything? If it does, what did it stand for?
Metro-Goldwyn-Mayer. They used to make movies.
Stemaboat_Tyler 01-18-2008, 12:57 AM I don't like that they changed the name MGM
SafariLyssaOnVMK 01-18-2008, 01:08 AM well, MGM was a company that made movies.
Keyword: made
Since they don't anymore, Disney decided that they should change the name to HOLLYWOOD Studios.

My families youngest member is very upset that the attraction is down for a rehab during our next visit (early February). Are the changes scheduled to be that major?

wait what do u mean major changes?!?! like what???
Stemaboat_Tyler 02-05-2008, 12:23 PM When will the Spaceship Earth be open again? Or is it already open?
wdmountie 02-05-2008, 03:52 PM When will the Spaceship Earth be open again? Or is it already open?
Spaceship Earth is already open.
Schmoofy 02-05-2008, 07:50 PM Are the changes scheduled to be that major?Originally, a permit was filed for floor removal in the Imagination! pavilion. I believe last week (maybe two weeks ago?) a new permit was filed with the reason being "Imagination demolition". What was odd about this permit was that..
1. Imagination demolition?! They can't be getting rid of an entire pavilion, right?
2. WDI filed the permit, which, by trends, they don't do unless they want complete control over the future of the area.
I'm expecting Dreamfinder to come back, along with some old scenes mixed with new technology. Imagination might be something I want to visit now, I'm bored with the current attraction.
(I'm telling you, there's been quite a lot of changes since Eisner left...)
Stemaboat_Tyler 02-05-2008, 08:48 PM Spaceship Earth is already open.
I thought they were opening it back up later this month... Well, what do I know. :vlaugh:
TheFireworkZach 02-05-2008, 10:33 PM Spaceship Earth has been open since about November, I was able to ride it when I went to Disney World although I think the "offical opening" is this Febuary.
Also, I think Disney is trying to bring familiar characters and people into the Disney parks, especially in areas such as Tomorrowland and at Future World in EPCOT. The Disney of the 70's/80's is evolving into the modern Disney all the little kids know and love today.

Stemaboat_Tyler 02-05-2008, 10:35 PM I'm pretty sure that Wonders Of Life is closing forever...

So they're turning Future World into Hannah Montana Land?

Toy story mania is scheduled to open this summer.
