I think it's a mean way of saying newbie, but I'm not quite sure. :xshocked: ZortheraCrathTheAliens 12-21-2007, 04:29 AM Ya. its slang for newbie. and noob with 0's sounds cooler. I wonder.. is there a transition from n00b to non-n00b? When, rather.. TeddyYeti 12-21-2007, 04:32 AM A "n00b" is something computer..."players" say when someone is new. It's actually a good thing to be called a n00b if you have a life. It means you're not a computer geek... ZortheraCrathTheAliens 12-21-2007, 04:35 AM Im a computer geek. I also have a life. So am i a non-n00bish n00b?... iImagine 12-21-2007, 04:38 AM Im a computer geek. I also have a life. So am i a non-n00bish n00b?... No a n00b is just a newbie. It's no meaner than the phrase newbie. The transition is when a n00b begins making friends with seasoned player/posters and showing that s/he can hold their own and add to whatever is being done. You're no n00b, Zorthera. waffles 12-21-2007, 04:50 AM People in my class called me n00bs o_o iImagine 12-21-2007, 04:53 AM People in my class called me n00bs o_o Mmmk... that might have had a more derogatory connotation. zangoose 12-21-2007, 04:57 AM a nOOb is a person who does not follow the rules. a newb is a new person iImagine 12-21-2007, 05:02 AM a nOOb is a person who does not follow the rules. a newb is a new person Not so. Not anymore... Extras 12-21-2007, 05:07 AM I hoped for the love of VMK that this talk would never come. AlphaGoldFrog 12-21-2007, 07:13 AM Noob means someone who has played something for a while but is still bad at it and a newb is a newbie or new player. Sephiroth 12-21-2007, 07:31 AM Noob means someone who has played something for a while but is still bad at it and a newb is a newbie or new player. I'm afraid you're mistaken. Here are the definitions provided by me: n00b:: a newbie at something; lack of skill for new activity nub:: a long-term player, who still lacks skill for said activity Torchwood 12-21-2007, 11:34 AM n00b = most overused word on Runescape. I say word, even though it's supposed to be an insult, because I hear it so much it's not an insult anymore. But yeah, what Sephiroth said. jamiewe 12-21-2007, 12:20 PM lol im a Nub i lack at pirates :D lol Whipstersh 12-21-2007, 01:52 PM Many people say that the words "newb" and "noob/n00b" are the same thing. Some players consider that true, but most others consider them to have slightly different meanings. To those who consider the words different, the word "newb" is used to describe someone who is relatively new at a game, and have little experience. Many times these players will ask obvious questions, due to them being newer to the game. However, the word "noob/n00b" is most commonly used to describe one who acts like a newb, yet is not a newer player. This is most commonly one who continues to ask obvious questions, frequently annoy players, etc, despite the fact that he or she is an older player of the game and should know better. "Newb" is mainly not used as a derogatory term. It is usually just a statement of how new a person is to the game. "Noob/n00b" is usually used as a derogatory term for a person. The main difference between the two is how long a person has been a member of the site/game. The behavior of the members is generally the same. spacerightsummer 12-21-2007, 03:03 PM I am such a nOOb at pirates, that is why I am a fireworks junkie :xgrin: the_phoenix 12-21-2007, 03:05 PM Many people say that the words "newb" and "noob/n00b" are the same thing. I'm sorry but could you translate that into normal English? Chele 12-21-2007, 03:57 PM What? I'm sorry but could you translate that into normal English? Newb: New Player. Give them a break, help them learn. It's not a bad thing to be a newb. noob/n00b: Not a new player but acts like they are. Usually (but not always) on purpose to just be annoying. Most times, being called a n00b is meant as an insult. disneyzoodude 12-21-2007, 04:11 PM Not-Operating-On-Brains is what it used to mean.
