I am starting a new thread so members and friends of the VMK Pirate Club can post pirate-related things to share! This can include web sites, movies, events, news articles, or anything real world RELATING TO PIRATES. (Please do not post non-pirate related things in this thread.)
If you have anything to share, feel free to post! I have many ideas for this thread, but I don't want to dump everything on everyone at once, so I myself will be posting in here about once a week or so.

Enjoy the loot, me hearties!

The first Pirates of the Caribbean movie was Fantastic!
Did you know the DVD contains "Easter Eggs"? For those of you who don't know what an "Easter Egg" is, they are video clips or other DVD features hidden from the menu. Click Here for a list of "Easter Eggs". (http://www.dvdtalk.com/eggs/read.php?titleID=175) There is a fantastic "Easter Egg" that shows the creation of the Pirate Cave over the course of five months in fast-forward! Awesome! :pirate:

Pirates of the Caribbean: Dead Man's Chest (http://www.imdb.com/title/tt0383574/), the second in the trilogy, is due to be released next summer, 2006, according to the Internet Movie Data Base. (http://www.imdb.com/title/tt0383574/) The cast includes Johnny Depp, Orlando Bloom, Keira Knightley and other favorites from the original, but don't look at the cast list if you don't want to know anything about the film! It does give a very important detail away about the plot!

Pirates of the Caribbean 3 (http://www.imdb.com/title/tt0449088/) is due to come out the following summer, but knowing how slow movie making goes sometimes, we shouldn't count on it. This movie is, as of yet, untitled.
You can get in on the movie action by investing in Pirates 3! Just click 'Posters' (http://www.imdb.com/title/tt0449088/posters) on the Pirates of the Carribean 3 IMDB page (http://www.imdb.com/title/tt0449088/), and follow the link! Stock price as of this writing is appx $125 a share, and dropping. You know the deal; Buy Low, Sell High!

Do you have anything to share regarding the Pirates of the Caribbean movies? Let's see it!

Enjoy the movies, Mateys!

From what I heard they are filming both of them back to back a la Matrix so the release date of Pirates 3 is pretty much a cert.

Awesome!
I just get concerned, having seen what happens with some films, and having a husband who has worked in the film industry a bit. Things get delayed. I am also worried since, unlike Lord of the Rings and movies like that, they aren't filming the Pirates movies together (like I said, the movie doesn't even have a title yet). But, if they are filming them concurrently, it just might make it. That would be great! Two pirate films in two years!

Thanks for the info!

Just been having a scan around and it appears that POTC3 may well be out sooner than we thought.

here's a quote for you:

"DarkHorizons reports news from a scooper that was at the annual meeting hosted by NATO (North American Theatre Owners) and he got the following from a Buena Vista rep:

He went on to talk about the sequel(s) to Pirates and said the entire cast and production team would be back. He said production would begin shortly on Pirates of the Caribbean 2 & 3 and they would be released six months apart in 2006."

Sooner than expected, looks like next year could well be Pirate Year :)

As you know, the Lady Washington is the real life ship that played The Interceptor in the film "The Pirates of the Caribbean: Curse of the Black Pearl". At least you should know that if you watched your DVD Special Features since last week’s post! More importantly, the Lady Washington is the historical reproduction of the original Lady Washington, a ship built around the year 1750, a ship with a colorful past. The current Lady Washington travels all over the globe, and her crew and volunteers educate people on the history of the original Lady.

I was fortunate enough to personally board the Lady Washington in November, 2000 when she was docked in Sacramento, California along the Sacramento River on a tour with the tall ship Hawaiian Chieftain. Several guests boarded the vessel that day, and we set out for a few hours on the river. The crew dressed in historical costumes, and were lively and knowledgeable. They staged a cannon battle with the other ship (fire in the hole!), and I volunteered to tie down ropes during the trip (it was so much fun!). At the end, the crew sang sea shanties, and the Captain told us about volunteer opportunities on the Lady Washington. It was a great day!

Since me Mateys in the VMK Pirate Club love ships so much, I thought I should share this information, and these URLs with you!:
YOU can volunteer on the Lady Washington! Well, the adults can, I’m not certain if you are under age 18. Anyway, you don’t need any experience, they train you on the job. Two weeks at sea, and you’ll know more about sailing a ship than you thought you’d ever know!
For information on the Lady Washington, including tour dates and information for prospective volunteers, visit Lady Love – The Lady Washington Home Page (http://ladywashington.org).
For information on the history of the original Lady Washington, visit Lady Washington (http://ladywashington.net).

Happy sailing!

Treasure Island (http://www.amazon.com/exec/obidos/ASIN/0451527046/qid=1121357634/sr=2-1/ref=pd_bbs_b_2_1/002-9416034-7281637) was a book written by Robert Louis Stevenson in the year 1883, a book beloved by adults and children alike. It is the story of young Jim Hawkins, and his adventures that begin when an old pirate comes to stay at his parent’s inn.

Treasure Island (http://www.imdb.com/title/tt0043067/) was adapted for the screen by Walt Disney Pictures in 1950, and remains a Walt Disney Classic. The relationship between Jim Hawkins and Long John Silver is romanticized a bit, and a few necessary adjustments are made from the original to account for time and family values. However, the movie holds true to the vision of the book. Treasure Island was Disney’s first live-action movie.

A further adaptation was made by Disney animators in 2002 with the release of Treasure Planet (http://www.imdb.com/title/tt0133240/). This film was based on Stevenson’s book with major changes; however the basic plot is still the same. Jim Hawkins is a bit older (a teen), the setting is in space instead of on the sea, the Doctor and the Squire are replaced by a single scientist, and the Hispaniola is replaced by the ship name R.L.S Legacy. The character development in this film is as impressive as the original book itself.

Additional movie adaptations of Treasure Island (http://www.imdb.com/find?q=treasure%20island;s=all) can be found on IMDB.

Robert Louis Stevenson (http://people.brandeis.edu/~teuber/stevensonbio.html) was born in 1850 in Edinburgh, Scotland. His father was an engineer, but he sought indoor work due to poor health; many believe he suffered tuberculosis much of his life. He studied law and passed the Scottish Bar in 1875, but he made little effort as a lawyer because was already trying to make his mark in the field of literature. He traveled a lot to relieve his medical condition. It was during these travels that he was inspired to write Treasure Island. He wrote several other books throughout his life including the book Kidnapped, also made into a Disney film. He married in 1879, and died in 1894. He is buried in Samoa.

Good funny movie and a take on Treasure Island is Muppets' Treasure Island. It's good and funny. Basically a family movie.

Hi, my name is Jess and Im addicted to pirates.

Ive seen the movie over 100 times. 37 of those being in theatres.

Ever since I was little I loved pirates, so this movie was just meant for me lol. My parents always tell me stories about how when I was a baby they would bring me on PotC the ride. Every other baby or small child would cry at the loud cannons or pirates but I would just laugh. Lol, my parents said they thought Id marry a pirate when I grow up. If that pirate just happens to be Johnny Depp or Orlando Bloom, bring it on.

ANYWAYS, the reason I posted. The third and final PotC movie is titled Pirates of the Caribbean: World's End.

Just bought a new game for the X-Box called Sid Meier's Pirates (http://www.amazon.com/exec/obidos/tg/detail/-/B0009R1TAO/qid=1122685267/sr=8-2/ref=pd_bbs_unbuck_2/102-4142343-9556116?v=glance&s=videogames&n=229534). There is also a PC version of the game (http://www.amazon.com/exec/obidos/tg/detail/-/B00029QR8I/qid=1122685267/sr=8-1/ref=pd_bbs_unbuck_1/102-4142343-9556116?v=glance&s=videogames&n=229534). This game is based on the older Pirates game made for the Commodore and Amiga computers in the 1980's. It is very fun; Odin and I both highly recommend it!
In this game, you play a character who has lost his family, and seeks work on a ship. You can start with the English, Spanish, French or Dutch. The game is open-ended, so you can be a peaceful merchant sailor, a privateer working for one or more countries, or a pirate who takes anything and everything he sees! There are Governor's daughters to woo, a family to rescue, towns to sack, ships to loot and take as a prize, other pirates to defeat and villains to conquer!

Other games I have not played, but will note are:
Tropico 2: Pirate Cove (http://www.amazon.com/exec/obidos/tg/detail/-/B00007M9ST/qid=1122685267/sr=8-8/ref=pd_bbs_unbuck_8/102-4142343-9556116?v=glance&s=videogames&n=229534) (also available in a Mac version (http://www.amazon.com/exec/obidos/tg/detail/-/B0009HL34Q/qid=1122685267/sr=8-10/ref=pd_bbs_unbuck_10/102-4142343-9556116?v=glance&s=videogames&n=229534)) - The original Tropico was great; it played similar to Sim City.
Pirates of the Caribbean for X-Box (http://www.amazon.com/exec/obidos/tg/detail/-/B00008V6TF/qid=1122685267/sr=8-6/ref=pd_bbs_unbuck_6/102-4142343-9556116?v=glance&s=videogames&n=229534) (also available in a PC version (http://www.amazon.com/exec/obidos/tg/detail/-/B00009YUGP/qid=1122685267/sr=8-4/ref=pd_bbs_unbuck_4/102-4142343-9556116?v=glance&s=videogames&n=229534))
Pirates of the Caribbean for Game Boy Advance (http://www.amazon.com/exec/obidos/tg/detail/-/B00008KUA1/qid=1122685267/sr=8-11/ref=pd_bbs_unbuck_11/102-4142343-9556116?v=glance&s=videogames&n=229534)
Port Royale for the PC (http://www.amazon.com/exec/obidos/tg/detail/-/B000098XMO/qid=1122685267/sr=8-14/ref=pd_bbs_unbuck_14/102-4142343-9556116?v=glance&s=videogames&n=229534)
Port Royale 2 for the PC (http://www.amazon.com/exec/obidos/tg/detail/-/B0002IWYO0/qid=1122685267/sr=8-3/ref=pd_bbs_unbuck_3/102-4142343-9556116?v=glance&s=videogames&n=229534)
Sea Dogs for the PC (http://www.amazon.com/exec/obidos/tg/detail/-/B000051SGS/qid=1122685267/sr=8-5/ref=pd_bbs_unbuck_5/102-4142343-9556116?v=glance&s=videogames&n=229534)
Pirates-The Legend of Black Kat for PS2 (http://www.amazon.com/exec/obidos/tg/detail/-/B00005V6BA/qid=1122685267/sr=8-9/ref=pd_bbs_unbuck_9/102-4142343-9556116?v=glance&s=videogames&n=229534)
If you have played any of these games personally, please comment on them so others can decide if they might be worth playing.

Hey you sure do love all those pirate games SallySally!Yes I do! I played Puzzle Pirates just yesterday, and it was interesting. I bet a lot of girls play it because girls tend to do the puzzle game thing more often than not when choosing video games. Guys like to blow stuff up. :) I'm not being ******, this is just a reitteration of a statistical analysis I read in a game magazine once.
I do enjoy playing pirates in VMK. I am making more pirate themed rooms, but I'm running out of credits. If anyone has penny press machines, I would really like to trade for those (or donations are great, or loan, or let me have them on credit). My newest room is a pirate restaurant, and is accessible from my pirate teleporter room, which is accessible from the VMK Pirate Club -Club House.
Aside from that, I'm playing pirates tonight in real life... Odin and I are dressing like pirates when we go meet our friends at a nightclub. We really like costumes. I'll post a picture of my super hero costume here sometime.

BTW DizCaptain, thanks for the pirate pin. You are too sweet.
