Destination 11-16-2007, 12:20 AM Here are some new pictures of the new matterhorn cars being built at Disneyland. They are suppose to be similar to the Space Mountain cars at WDW.

November 19, 2007 Update!
Here is a recent update about the new cars! credit goes to screamscape ;)
A reader pointed out a little bit of information to me about the new 3 seat Matterhorn cars in the works. While it is true that the current cars hold 4 adults at once (8 per train), they point out most trains only go out with anywhere form 4 to 6 riders right now because so many people don’t want to sit on someone’s lap. Add in the extra “weight” factor that has become a reason for the nearly year-long rehab coming up at Small World, and often it can be a bit uncomfortable for two “full sized” adults to sit together, so the new trains that will offer six individual seats may actually increase the ride’s true capacity in the end.
CookyHalie 11-16-2007, 12:28 AM those look like the space mountain ride track.. lol but here cool
LaurenThePrincess 11-16-2007, 12:38 AM yay awesome!
groovysqirrel 11-16-2007, 12:41 AM They look like bobselds! woot!
DisneyWhiz 11-16-2007, 12:41 AM when are they going to be put to use?
Caterpillar AEIOU 11-16-2007, 01:17 AM The seat belt system really slows down load and unload. It looks like these will run on lap bars! Lots faster.
:turkey5:
Wendot 11-16-2007, 01:31 AM Awww I'm gonna miss the old ones!!
slinkyman 11-16-2007, 01:33 AM The present ones look like WDW's Space Mountian. These new ones look like bobsleds.
DisneyWhiz 11-16-2007, 01:34 AM I wonder if the ride will be any smoother??? My butt usually hurts after i ride that ride (= but i guess it adds to the fun.
Disney101 11-16-2007, 01:36 AM Thanks for your update :)
Caterpillar AEIOU 11-16-2007, 01:37 AM The present cars allow one rider to sit in the same seat, in the taller persons lap, in the SAME seat. 4 per car, 2 cars per train, 8 people per train.
This version IDENTICAL to WDW Space Mountain, will allow 3 per car, 2 cars per train, 6 people per train. Each rider has an individual seat.

Destination 11-16-2007, 02:04 AM I read on the site where they posted it, that yes they will hopefully run alot smother. But I like the bumpy-ness of the ride. Especially on the Tomorrowland side when you go under that bridge ;)
RocketMountain 11-17-2007, 03:53 AM That is a test sled. Don't expect the new sleds on the track for a year or more. They just refurbished some of the current trains.
GoofyGeggy 11-17-2007, 04:03 AM The old ones made me hurt (or perhaps it's just the track...), so I hope these new ones will be splendiferous!
Destination 11-17-2007, 05:05 AM I think that once they do decide to use these sleds, and if it does make the ride smoother, I think there's gonna be lots of complaints about people missing the old sleds. I like the old ones better. It makes it more fun.
Kitri 11-17-2007, 05:56 AM Those look a lot more safe! I was always scared I was going fall out of those when I was little ue to the fact I was so small. Thanks for posting
Destination 11-20-2007, 12:17 AM I added an update about the new cars in my first post from screamscape ;)
TheFireworkZach 11-20-2007, 01:34 AM I don't think that new cars are going to help out with the bumpyness as much as people think. It is not that the cars are bad as they are not nearly as old (From the 70's/80's) as the original ones only had one train which is what the ride was designed for.
Anyways, I think that they need to put a little bit of effort in to smoothing out the track and making it a little more rideable. The ride isn't terribly rough as I have been on some coasters that are WAY worse (Ghostrider at Knott's, Ninja at Six Flags St. Louis, etc..).
This coaster is going to be 50 years old in 2009 so I think we will be seeing the appearence of those cars around that time as it would just make sense for advertising reasons.
"Come ride the brand new and improved Matterhorn with a new set of state of the art trains, at the happiest place on earth."
Over advertising, gotta love it.

Destination 11-20-2007, 01:44 AM Dont they already have Sand and pipes in the track to smooth it out, and to reduce noise or something like that? I heard it about some coaster but Im not sure. I like the bumpyness of the ride, its more fun.

Yes, I think they do although I think that is more for noise reduction. They do that with many steel tubular coasters especially the older aged ones that would be more likely to be louder.

Destination 11-20-2007, 02:01 AM Especially The Matterhorn, because that was the first steel tubular invented.
GreatGatsby 11-20-2007, 10:11 AM Awww I'm gonna miss the old ones!!Sorry, Wen - I had to laugh at this.
I already miss the old ones. The current ones are the third or fourth version.
The original ones were single cars holding up to four people, and the ride was a whole lot more fun with those smaller vehicles. Ya really whizzed around in those. These bigger ones make the track slower and bumpier.
gabyta 11-20-2007, 12:28 PM it's good to know what's going on in the parks :) thank you for posting this :)
TheFireworkZach 11-20-2007, 10:59 PM I wish that they still had the original cars, as I think that would ultimatly be the best as that's how this coaster was designed.

Pixie_Jess 11-20-2007, 11:10 PM I just want the tracks to be smoothed over more. When I ride, I can hear the squeak of the tracks and it gets me a bit nervious. Hope they improve the tracks.
